Breen in Star Trek
[edit]To Jim: It seems to me that I once read somewhere that the Breen in Star Trek were named after you. Can you validate or confirm this? --Sasoriza 19:49, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!
[edit]Professor Jim, just wanted to thank you for helping me get through high and college! I studied Japanese for about eight years and traveled there twice. I ended up with an East Asian Studies major at the University of Wisconsin (along with Computer Science) and your WWWJDIC was an unbelievably invaluable resource the entire time. Thanks! hansamurai (talk) 04:25, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Source for shinjitai v. kyujitai character mapping
[edit]Hi Jim. I would like to make some software which does pattern matching taking into account shinjitai and kyujitai variants. But to do this I need a definitive list of Unicode mappings for the corresponding shinjitai for each kyujitai. I realize that true shinjitai will only be in the Joyo kanji list. I also realize that at least one shinjitai maps to multiple kyujitai. For this reason just kyu->shin is important for me. — Hippietrail (talk) 04:33, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry - I only just saw this. I rarely even look at this page. A good start for shinjitai/kyujitai mappings would be the kanjidic2.xml file, where alternative codepoints are included. For example if you look at this link you'll see two kyuujitai kanji included. HTH.JimBreen (talk) 00:06, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
An Alternative Romanization
[edit]I posted a mail to your account at monash and got a failure message.
I have many things to say about Romanization systems of Japananese but most Wikipedians are very reluctant to discuss the matter per se.
I wrote a brief message to the talk page of User:Ryulong but my English failed me. When I said that "dz" were two letters, I meant two sounds.
So I checked every user in the page, and found you are the man I should consult with.
I am a Japanese old boy. Not a scholar. Worked as an employee of a publishing house of dictionaries. Belongs to the first generation educated under the post-war education system.
If you are interested, please read three documents of EHS (Extended Hepburn System) at the halcat.com.
Combine the two parts of my user name with an underscore, and you get the ID of my email address. No upper-case letter.
The domain is Yahoo.com of Japan.
