Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, JimKrohn. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Madeline (part of me) 16:11, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to wikipedia, it appears that you have been editing an article about yourself which should be disclosed, writing an article from a neutral point of view about yourself is too difficult. The main thing to keep in mind, given that your entire contribution to the article has been deleted by another editor, is that everything you write in a wikipedia article should be based on text or information that can be found elsewhere from third party sources.--PiccklePiclePikel (talk) 17:54, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm -Alabama-. I noticed that in this edit to Jim Krohn, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. -Alabama- (talk) 17:12, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mr. Krohn.

[edit]

I see you've been trying to delete the article Jim Krohn, because you don't like the lack of control over what is written about you. On Wikipedia, anyone can edit. The point is to create an encyclopedia, with articles that are written from a neutral point of view, summarizing what is written in reliable sources such as newspapers and books. It turns out that this doesn't always align with what the subject says about themselves - so far, multiple people have been unable to find reliable coverage of your business, only of your football career. If you could point us to sources, that would be nice - relevant reading can be found at this link. casualdejekyll 18:56, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How to contest incorrect information about you

[edit]

Hi, Jim Krohn! I understand that you'd like our page about you to be deleted? In general, we try to accommodate requests of this kind as long it's not certain that we should have an article on that person. In your case, that doesn't seem to be an option – the discussion here was quickly closed because it's clear that your sporting career makes you someone we think we should cover. That doesn't mean we can write anything we like about you, we have a strict policy to protect the rights and privacy of living people. There are two things you can do if you see incorrect information in our page about you:

  • if it's blatant vandalism – material obviously intended to attack or disparage you or your family, private information that isn't publicly available, or just silly nonsense, for example – you can (and should) go ahead and remove it immediately. If you like, you can then leave a note at Talk:Jim Krohn to explain why you did so.
  • if there's an error or omission of verifiable basic fact about your public persona as a sportsman – say, a wrong date or wrong score – then we'd appreciate it if, instead of editing the page, you'd leave a note on the talk-page to explain why it's wrong, and showing where our editors can look to find the correct facts.

That's a lot of talk; short version: if it's urgent, fix it; if it's a small mistake, use the talk page. If you don't get the help you expected, try placing {{Admin help}} (complete with the curly parentheses) on the talk-page. I hope this helps.
