Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to gender-related disputes or controversies or people associated with them, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Stop icon This is your only warning; if you vandalize Wikipedia again, as you did at Sarah Brown (politician), you may be blocked from editing without further notice. -Gadfium (talk) 09:12, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  PhilKnight (talk) 23:51, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @PhilKnight: Can you please explain why you blocked me? I did not do any vandalism and was merely trying to improve the encyclopedia. Jidarave (talk) 23:53, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is not a site where you express your own opinion. Wikipedia articles are based on reliable sources. Your edits weren't sourced based. PhilKnight (talk) 23:54, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Where can I learn more about how to source things properly? I would like to be able to contribute Jidarave (talk) 23:58, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Read WP:V, WP:RS, and WP:CITE. PhilKnight (talk) 01:17, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I will read them and get back to you soon. Jidarave (talk) 01:18, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok @PhilKnight: I have read all of them and now I understand how to include sources. Jidarave (talk) 02:32, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Before I unblock, could you give an example of a sourced edit you want to make? PhilKnight (talk) 03:39, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In Java virtual machine, the section “Java virtual machine architecture”, the paragraph ending “…performance hit in using 64-bit JVM compared to 32-bit JVM.”
I intend to add “The performance hit can be overcome by parsing input parameters through a cloud analytic relay such as JS4Cloud such that data framework elements are allocated by dynamic a user-defined processing algorithm rather than relying on run time processing restrictions.”
The sources that support this very simple and well-known method are:

Obviously, I would use wiki format for these references. Jidarave (talk) 00:25, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PhilKnight: I’m sorry that I didn’t respond right away. I have cancer and am undergoing chemotherapy. Jidarave (talk) 01:04, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@CodeTalker: it’s pretty obvious to anyone who isn’t retarded that you’re referring to AP 499D25. It seems like you really do believe you’re superior and you assume everyone around you is stupid. How about this: Instead of reacting to things you don’t understand like an ignorant witch-burner, try attempting to understand them? I left a long list of relevant sources. Perhaps you could help yourself to them, get over your self-obsession and your ego, and try to learn something new?

@PhilKnight: I apologize for the delay. I am still undergoing chemotherapy, although the doctors now say I only have about a month to live. I would like to be unblocked so I can spend my last month fulfilling my only dream of being a respected Wikipedia editor. Jidarave (talk) 01:26, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PhilKnight: I see you have been editing since I last commented, so I wanted to make sure you saw my note, specifically that I am undergoing chemotherapy and am dying of cancer. The only thing I want to do with the limited time I have left is to be a Wikipedia editor. Jidarave (talk) 00:43, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @PhilKnight: why did you remove part of my post? Jidarave (talk) 03:03, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
