"Using your e-mail address as your username is not a good idea. Wikipedia content is extensively copied and the site itself is one of the most visited sites in the world. Any edit you make on Wikipedia will have your username attached to it, and using your email address will make you a tempting target for spammers." (source)
--JWSchmidt 22:41, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly second this advice. Additionally, since you edit controversial and highly-visible topics such as Israel/Lebanon, there's a non-zero chance that someone will sign you up for mailing lists and other malicious abuse. You can change it and keep your editing history at Wikipedia:Changing username. By the way, excellent additions to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1559, fully formatted and well stated within WP:NPOV and other guidelines. --Dhartung | Talk 02:17, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your advice is greatly appreciated, but I would not feel right about saying/doing things in a public place while remaining pseudonymous. As for spam ... well, I get so much spam anyway a little more won't hurt. Thanks for the compliments re UN-1559, but all I did for that was copy it over en bloc from the Hezbollah page. JiHymas@himivest.com 03:20, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I do not want to make you feel like we are pushing you to do something you do not want to do. I just want to make sure that you understand that the email communication option that you activated in "my preferences" does not show your email address while still allowing people to contact you by email. Your e-mail: You may optionally register your e-mail address (it will not be shown publicly on the site). This will enable you to reset your password by clicking the "Mail me a new password" box on the log in screen, if you forget it. Additionally, it will enable other registered users to send e-mail to you from the "E-mail this user" link on your user page unless you've checked the disable box (see below). --JWSchmidt 03:43, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It certainly is your choice, but it's an unusual one (I don't consider myself pseudonymous, but I don't reveal my e-mail here either!). --Dhartung | Talk 19:07, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

I did some of the legwork in response to your edits on this article: UNIFIL.

Can you please take a look?

You seem more well-versed in wiki-markup than I.

Thanks.

Questions on Al-Manar

[edit]

Hi, thanks for your work on Al-Manar, i've re-read [1] very carefully and though i'm not a lawyer with a speciallity in EU "Federal" law i'm a Brit with brain and a long interest in the EU project. Here's what it says is the command structure and who it covers.

Ok every nation in the EU has signed a piece of "federal" law called the "Television without Frontiers" (TVWF) Directive (89/552/EEC), thats now all 25 Members but fewer originally signed this document. This said member governments have to protect the whole of the EU and the rest of the World from televised hate speach created, broadcast from or by an organisation under the jurisdiction of that member government. In the case of Al-Manar it was France that had to impliment the (TVWF) Directive under its laws with its legal institutions, and it did and banned Al-Manar.

This means Al-Manar has Definately been banned in France, by its highest court the “Conseil d'Etat”, conferming a ruleing by the Quango on censorship the “Conseil supérieur de l’audiovisuel”.

Given that the EU say "During this French procedure the European Commission worked very closely together with the French authorities and supported the strict and effective application of European law. The Commission welcomed the fact that measures have been taken to ensure respect of the material rules of the Directive, in line with the division of responsibilities between the Commission and the national authorities on such matters." They think that Al-Manar should be de-facto banned all over the EU but it would have to be tried on a country by country basis if they tried to broadcast from/with a TV company from another EU country. It's all about the the division of responsibilities between the Commission and the national authorities that is the thin line between an EU and a USE (United States of Europe). Hope that helps it took F'n ages to do, thanks for your ages again.Hypnosadist 18:39, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Maybe that explains the mentions of Germany et al. in the article. JiHymas@himivest.com 19:53, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Response to Official Web-Site Dispute

[edit]

I have posted a brief summary of my dispute at Talk:Hezbollah#Official Web Site / Media Outlets. If there are further discussion-points, we can address them at that talk-page. Nimur 00:29, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My dear friend, There is war and this is a tactic to concealment and confusing enemy. Hezbollah has bought different domain on different host and made various sites. So Israel can't find which site is the main site therefor they should hack too many sites. So don't bother yourself about the real site.--Sa.vakilian 04:07, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, sure. But they must let their supporters know somehow where to find the site, or there wouldn't be much point in having it in the first place. It's not something I'm overly bothered with ... but then Nimur put the "dispute" label on which site was "official". I'm quite prepared to believe that all three sites are Hezbollah approved ... but how would you know if one was Israeli disinformation? JiHymas@himivest.com 04:11, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sweet decoder ring, Ban on Al-Manar

[edit]

Hi there JiHymas! Thanks again for your continued efforts with the Hezbollah related articles. It is really coming together!

On the Al-Manar ban.. I did not mean to come off as a jerk about it, those references concerned me however. I suggest a rewrite. I have an example at User:Mceder/Al-Manar-Ban. If you can take a look at it, let me know if you agree with me or not. Mceder 14:20, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I never for a moment thought that you came off as a jerk. You have some concerns, you raised them and the article will be improved. I like your re-write. JiHymas@himivest.com 16:50, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent. I will go ahead and suggest it on the Al-Manar talk page. Your input is also requested on Talk:Hezbollah#use of the word "terrorist". Would love to remove the disputed tag on the article, but some satisfaction is needed. Mceder 17:03, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Great work on the article.Hypnosadist 18:46, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will be able to help more this weekend. I have just recently started up school again and it is taking up most of my time, so I apologize for not responding to your comments on the project page.
