Thanks for the message. I can understand your frustration. Wikipedia's verifiability policy means that contents of articles should have reliable sources. That also means that even if something is known to be true by an editor, without a reliable source, it is unlikely to remain in an article for long. Is there an online link to you marriage certificate on a reliable website, such as the Somerset House records office or wherever they are held these days -- I have been out of the UK for a while myself now, so I forget where the official records are kept.  – ukexpat (talk) 21:58, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re Richard Hickox

[edit]

I sympathise with your frustration; I hope you understand that we are genuinely not trying to be obstructive; Wikipedia's policy on writing biographical articles states "Wikipedia articles can affect real people's lives. This gives us an ethical and legal responsibility. Biographical material must be written with the greatest care and attention to verifiability, neutrality and avoiding original research." However, the situation does seem to me to be rather farcical in the light of the evidence you are prepared to provide, so I've raised it on the WP:BLP noticeboard here to see if we can come to some kind of common-sense solution. Please note that the article has now been updated to refer to his first marriage now that the Guardian obit has an addendum that we can use as a reference. – ukexpat (talk) 00:38, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
