User talk:Jeuardt
Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Jeuardt, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as User:Jeuardt/sandbox, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's content policies and may not be retained. In short, the topic of an article must be notable and have already been the subject of publication by reliable and independent sources.
Please review Your first article for an overview of the article creation process. The Article Wizard is available to help you create an article, where it will be reviewed and considered for publication. For information on how to request a new article that can be created by someone else, see Requested articles. If you are stuck, come to the Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can help you through the processes.

Categories
[edit]When copying articles into categories, eg [1] please be aware that the article may be in a different diffusing subcategory, in which case the parent category is not required, eg [2] "Australian children's television presenters" is a diffusing subcategory of "Australian television presenters", so the latter is not required. See WP:CATSPECIFIC. Note that WP:DUPCAT says "if the pages also belong to other subcategories that do cause diffusion, then they will not appear in the parent category directly". September 2021
[edit]Before adding a category to an article, as you did to Kate Fagan (poet), please make sure that the subject of the article really belongs in the category that you specified according to Wikipedia's categorization guidelines. The category being added must already exist, and must be supported by the article's verifiable content. Categories may be removed if they are deemed incorrect for the subject matter. As per the comment by Mitch Ames, if someone is in Australian women academics there is no need for them to be in Australian academics (that is inferred from the nature of categories). Klbrain (talk) 07:37, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
- Note that - per WP:DUPCAT - "Subcategories defined by gender ... should almost always be non-diffusing subcategories", and Category:Australian women academics is actually tagged as a non-diffusing subcategory of Category:Australian academics, so the statement that "
if someone is in Australian women academics there is no need for them to be in Australian academics
" is not necessarily true. Someone in "Australian women academics" would also be in "Australian academics", unless she was also in the hypothetical "Australian some-field academics" where "Australian some-field academics" is a diffusing subcategory of "Australian academics". Mitch Ames (talk) 11:55, 30 September 2021 (UTC)- @Mitch Ames: happy to accept that procedural point, of which I was unaware. I see the justification. Klbrain (talk) 23:55, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
