Help with Moonwalk article
[edit]This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
I want to edit a link in an infobox and do some other edits in order to change [article's] tone and meet Wikipedia's quality standards. Along these lines I have already added some links at the bottom under the "external links" section. The first two links are mine. Thanks for any help, I'm worried about the process because the of the existing "tone" issues. I want to be sure to make changes that will improve the article and not make it worse.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.
Jeremy
- When you leave messages, please remember to "sign" your name, by putting ~~~~ (four tilde signs) at the end. This will add your name, and the date and time. You can also do this by clicking the 'sign' button, pictured to the right.
- To link to an article, just put the title between square brackets - ie put just Moonwalk One to make a link as: Moonwalk One.
- The infobox is at the beginning of the page, when you edit it. It looks like this;
{{Infobox film | name = Moonwalk One | image = Moonwalk-one.jpg | image_size = | caption = | director = Theo Kamecke | producer = Francis Thompson<br />Peretz W. Johnnes | writer = Theo Kamecke<br />Peretz Johnnes<br />E.G.Valens | narrator = Laurence Luckinbill
- ...and so on. You can edit those parameters just like any other wiki text. The <br /> things just make a new line.
- For help with that specific infobox, and a list of all the available parameters, see Template:Infobox film.
- Be careful with external links. They need to be good resources, and they have to meet quite tight requirements. They should be kept to a minimum; if the info they contain is a 'reliable source' then that information should be incorporated in the article itself. See WP:EL.
- The biggest problem with the article is the lack of references. These are absolutely essential - each fact should say where it comes from; it has to be verifiable. Chzz ► 16:52, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
How references work
[edit]Simple references
[edit]These require two parts;
- a)
Chzz is 98 years old. He likes tea.
- b) A section called "References" with the special code "reflist";
== References == reflist
(an existing article is likely to already have one of these sections)
To see the result of that, please look at user:chzz/demo/simpleref. Edit it, and check the code; perhaps make a test page of your own, such as user:Jerbauric/reftest and try it out.
Named references
[edit]Chzz was born in 1837. Chzz lives in Footown.
Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result.
Citation templates
[edit]You can put anything you like between , but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look;
Chzz has 37 Olympic medals.
Please see user:chzz/demo/citeref to see the result.
For more help and tips on that subject, see user:chzz/help/refs. Chzz ► 16:52, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
