About translating

[edit]

Hi! I saw your question at the AFD. AFD is for discussing the article and whether it should be deleted, so I am replying here, in case it turns into a conversation. One of the first things I did on Wikipedia, more than two years ago, was translate an article from the Nepali Wikipedia. It turned out to be spam from a notorious abuser; I was lucky to not get blocked right there. My translation was speedy deleted per WP:G11. I don't think I've translated anything since. Some other Wikipedias are not as bad as Nepali Wikipedia but none are as strict and well-patrolled as English. So, it could be that articles that are accepted elsewhere won't be acceptable here at all. It is up to you to still make sure that the topic you choose to translate is notable by English Wikipedia's standards, that the content in the article is accurate and references are real, work and verify what they are cited for.

I came across this article during my WP:NPP run. I noticed it did not cite any independent sources, and a quick google search didn't give me any. That is why I nominated it for deletion. That's what NPP is; you have to decide between approving an article and nominating it for deletion. Just because I could not find it does not mean there may not be. But it is the responsibility of those who think the article should be kept to make their case. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 16:06, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Atari BASIC note

[edit]

About a year ago you added a mention of Data General BASIC being integer only. This is definitely NOT the case, DG's own manual details the floating-point format. This doesn't mean there wasn't an int-only DG basic, but not "Data General BASIC" in any case. Can you post the relevant quotes from the book? Google Books doesn't have snippet view. Fan of your work, Maury! I pulled out the book. It's Data General Business Basic, which is integer only. Hope that added detail helps! --Jeffrey Henning (talk) 15:19, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
