Marisela I just finished the tutorial and am now leaving you a Barnstar. I'll post again when I figure out how to find our advisors...I believe they came up on the classes 'talk' page when others talked to them. Always -Jessie C! Feedback on Bib

[edit]

Hi Jcbjaw12 -- Thanks for pointing me to your prelim bib. It looks good -- you've found a number of solid secondary sources that should be a great help to you as/if you decide on the Academic Drama article. Your grasp of MLA style is good, but there are a few errors. Please review the handbook regarding how to list inclusive page numbers -- for example, should you write 296-297 or 296-97 (or something else)? Also, "University Press" is always abbreviated, e.g., U of Michigan P, Oxford UP. Finally, use the official title of any database where you accessed a journal article -- shouldn't it appear as JSTOR...? Happy researching! Amy E Hughes (talk) 17:30, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Amyehughes for the feedback! -- I made the suggested citation corrections and look forward to further research on this topic!

Preliminary bib for spring 2015

[edit]

Hi, Jcbjaw12 -- Your sources for Zoot Suit look great. Remember that titles of books should be italicized as per MLA. Also, check the handbook regarding including URLs in citations in a Works Cited list -- they are no longer required. See: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/08/ Happy researching! Zoot Suit

[edit]

Hi Jcbjaw12. I noticed the additions you made to Zoot Suit (play). The only major suggestion I have is to edit down the length of the plot summary. As it is, the plot summary is the vast majority of text in the article. What we would normally like to see is a plot summary which gives the broad structure and themes but doesn't overwhelm the rest of the coverage (cultural significance, popularity, writing, etc.). If you need help slimming the plot summary down or with anything else please let me know. Adam (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:31, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Adam, thanks for your feedback on this and the other pages that students in my course are working on! Question: Would you say that plot synopses in general should be shorter than what Jcbjaw12 has added, or is it more a matter of balance? I ask because I know from her Writing Plan that she will be expanding other sections as well, but this week her First Substantial Addition was due, and she decided to add the synopsis this week. Over the next 4-8 weeks she will be adding more material and at that point the synopsis will not dominate the article in the way it does now. Or, is it really just too long, by Wikipedia conventions? Thanks... Amy E Hughes (talk) 12:17, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Amyehughes. I would say that plot summary is still a bit too long, even for a much longer article. The manual of style offers some rough guidance. This isn't a huge problem, so feel free to see the above note as advisory. Adam (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:52, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Adam and Amyehughes. Thank you for the feedback. I will work on reducing the plot summary back down. Thank you for your help. Jcbjaw12 (talk) 12:59, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Zoot Suit (play), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Short Eyes. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
