Your edits to Bernard Knox and other WW2 articles

[edit]

I read with interest your edits to Bernard Knox and other articles about WW2. The material you added is interesting, but under Wikipedia policies (including the policies that require verifiability and that govern biographies of living persons), this material must include citations to reliable sources. While some of the facts in your edits are mentioned in sources with which I'm familiar (such as Knox's "Premature Anti-Fascist" essay), others are not, so far as I am aware. Can you provide the necessary citations? Thanks,--Arxiloxos (talk) 04:52, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Arxiloxos, I'm a rookie at this and can't figure out how put the footnote in. All the information came from my interview with him in June of 2001. That became an essay published in War Literature & the Arts published here: http://www.wlajournal.com/15_1-2/jones%20323-333.pdf Can you guide me how to do this? I assume you wrote this article. Thanks. I was going to do it, but you beat me to it. Well done.

Happy to help. Formatting citations is explained at Wikipedia:CITE#HOW but it can certainly be overwhelming at first. Here is a link to my edit so you can see what I changed in the wikitext. I've also added wikilinks to your text to provide links to the articles that discuss the topics you mentioned (such as Operation Jedburgh--one of the things that makes Wikipedia different is all those wikilinks! If you need help with the citations for your edits on the other articles about Operation Jedburgh (or anything else), let me know the sources you're using and I'll be happy to assist.
By the way, when you make comments or otherwise content to talk pages (like this one) and other Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. Or you can click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. (But we don't sign edits in the articles themselves). Welcome to Wikipedia! --Arxiloxos (talk) 06:33, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tips and the edits. I appreciate it! (Jayhawker08 (talk) 06:39, 30 July 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Jayhawker08 (talk) 02:51, 31 December 2020 (UTC)== Managing a conflict of interest == Information icon Hello, Jayhawker08. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Ben Jones (academic), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:[reply]

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Wikiacc () 03:49, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I clearly have a conflict of interest as this is an entry about me. I wonder what prompted you to write it? And if possible could you make the title Benjamin F Jones instead of just Ben Jones? Thanks. Jayhawker08 (talk) 04:12, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I was looking up sources for another Benjamin F. Jones, and enough happened to come up about you that I figured it was worth writing an article about you. And I'll move the title, mostly because the "academic" disambiguation isn't very clear (see the policy on article titles for people for details on situations like these). I have changed jobs and am now South Dakota’s State Historian and Director of the SD Historical Society. This began on 9 December. Can you update the entry on me? https://kelo.com/2020/11/19/governor-noem-announces-new-state-historian-and-director-of-historical-society/ https://www.keloland.com/news/capitol-news-bureau/jones-changes-focus-as-new-s-d-state-historian/

Also as SD Secretary Of Education I developed a strategic plan To close the opportunity gap and start the state’s Jobs For America’s Graduates Program. https://www.keloland.com/news/capitol-news-bureau/department-releases-new-s-d-education-plan/

Improve Native American education https://www.sdnewswatch.org/stories/native-american-education-in-south-dakota-a-history-of-failure-strong-hopes-for-the-future/

and organized the state’s efforts on federal assistance for K-12 and during the COVID pandemic. https://www.argusleader.com/story/news/education/2020/08/10/south-dakota-received-47-million-help-schools-during-pandemic-heres-where-its-going/3308112001/

Also, I have contributed chapters or the forward to other books. You can fine them on my amazon page here. https://www.amazon.com/Benjamin-F-Jones/e/B018BAGRVG?ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_2&qid=1609372616&sr=8-2

I know this is a big ask so certainly understand if you don’t wish to do this.

Happy New Year! Ben 02:51, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Thanks Ben, congratulations on the new job, and happy new year to you too! I've made a few updates to reflect the major items you mentioned, but I haven't covered everything. If you have further suggestions or corrections feel free to make them at Talk:Benjamin F. Jones. (If you don't get any responses, use {{request edit}} to get someone's attention.)
