Explanation

[edit]

Hi Jay. I'm sure you've seen the notices just up there ^, but they're written in some pretty tough language, so I thought I'd give you a bit of a translation/explanation. What's happening is this: someone noticed that your userpage is very, very long and very, very detailed - much more than almost anyone else's userpage. They also noticed that you don't seem to edit the encyclopedia while you're here; you just add stuff to your userpage and user subpages. Now the thing is, we allow users to put personal information about themselves on their userpages most of the time, but we do that because it's useful for other editors who are working on encyclopedia articles with them to be able to know a little bit about the editors. But you don't edit encyclopedia articles; you just write about yourself in your userspace. It's sort of a trade-off - in exchange for people working on the encyclopedia, we allow them to use a tiny part of Wikipedia as a webhost for a little bit of information about themselves. But that trade-off only works if in exchange for that hosting space, the person is editing encyclopedia articles, and if they're not using Wikipedia mainly as a personal website.

The trouble is that you seem to be using Wikipedia almost entirely as a personal website, and that's not really an ok use of our resources, so someone has suggested that your userpage be deleted (that's this discussion, linked above). It's pretty likely that the discussion will end in agreement that your page should be deleted because it's a misuse of Wikipedia's resources.

So if you want to keep that information, what might be a better idea for you to do is if you take everything you have on your Wikipedia userpage and transfer it to your blog. I see that you already have a set of "About" pages there, and your writing here would actually fit quite well there as another About page. I don't want you to lose the work you've done on your userpage here, but the bottom line is you really can't continue to host that information here on Wikipedia, because that's not the purpose of this website the way it's the purpose of blogspot or wordpress.

I hope this information helps you understand what's going on. If you want to, you can comment at the deletion discussion about your userpage, and I'm sure some of the people there would be happy to help you if you need help figuring out how to transfer your userpage content to another host. I have sent you an e-mail

But just in case the e-mail address attached to this account is out of date, I'm copying my message here:

Hi Jay,

I'm just writing hoping to help you. Sadly, the Wikipedia community seems to agree that the userpages you've poured so much effort into don't have their place on Wikipedia, but I have great news for you -- if you don't want to transfer the content over to one of your blogs, you can setup your own Wiki, where you will be in charge! Just follow this link: http://www.wikia.com/Special:CreateNewWiki -- you'll be able to be administrator and organize things on numerous pages and subpages as you want, nobody will ever do anything with your work you don't approve, it's free, and it uses to same background system and syntax you're used to from Wikipedia. Let me know if you need any help with setting things up, I would be delighted to help! Just make sure everything's ready by the end of June, when your userpages on Wikipedia will be closed, because I'd hate to see all your work be lost... although it would not "really" be lost, I could still retrieve it for you after that if you don't have time to set everything up by then. See? No problems, only better solutions! :)

Don't hesitate to let me know if there is ANYTHING I can do to help, Jay!
