Speedy deletion nomination of Bibb County Titans
[edit]A tag has been placed on Bibb County Titans requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Jason: I've noted the "hangon" tag you applied to the above-captioned article, and the comments you made on its associated talk page, which I reproduce here for your convenience. "I believe that this page should't be deleted because it is just talking about a football program that my dad started. It is not a big deal, it doesn't hurt anybody, and it isn't offensive. It simply states the facts and a few details (i haven't had time to go into depth) on this new program in West Blocton, AL. I have the rights to talk about, being my dads, and I just don't see why I got reported for making this page. If you don't believe it is real here is a link.". The trouble is that "It doesn't hurt anybody" is not a good enough reason to have articles on Wikipedia. Wikipedia has three basic standards that all its articles must meet, and the main one is notability. That means that the subjects of Wikipedia articles have to be notable -- unusual, special, different, better than the rest and/or very widely known by experts. For sports teams, there is a specific set of criteria that have to be met, and those boil down to that the team either has to be competing at the highest level of amateur competition -- like the Olympics -- or else be a fully professional team at the highest level of league play possible -- like the San Francisco 49ers. I'm sure you will agree with me that the Bibb County Titans don't meet that standard, and thus I've decided to agree with the editor who tagged the article for deletion. You can find background information about decisions like this at WP:Why was my article deleted?, and basic information about the qualities of Wikipedia articles both here and by following the links in this paragraph and on this page. Best of luck with your future contributions. Incidentally, I'm not sure what you mean by "I got reported for making this page". I don't think anyone is blaming you for anything; just about everyone on Wikipedia, including me, got started by making mistakes and seeing what happened when they got fixed. There are no "black marks" involved in making an article that didn't meet the appropriate standard; you're very welcome to stay and work on other articles. If you have any other questions about Wikipedia policies, feel free to leave me a note by clicking on the word "talk" after my signature. Accounting4Taste:talk 00:08, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
