Speedy deletion nomination of Golden-crowned Snake
[edit]Hello JanneTorkkola,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Golden-crowned Snake for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. AlanS (talk) 06:17, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
Conflict of interests problems, and what to do to avoid them
[edit]Hi Janne. I'm Peter aka Shirt58 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) a Wikipedia editor and administrator. (And also a former resident of Brisbane.)
I see you've identified yourself as running the "Snake Out" website and business. The problem here is that you must not use Wikipedia to promote your business, but you obviously have a whole lot to offer Wikipedia about snakes in Australia.
There are whole lot of policies and guidelines to follow with contributions here. To make it simple:
- don't copy anything to Wikipedia straight from the website
- don't add anything that could be seen as promoting your business
- otherwise, go for it!
You might be interested in WikiProject Amphibians and Reptiles - they will be more than happy to help you out.
Any questions, please let me know! --Shirt58 (talk) 12:03, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
Allowing Wikipedia to Reuse text from your website
[edit]Hey,
I just wanted to let you know what you can do to allow Wikipedians to re-use text from your website. In order for Wikipedians to copy text from your website your websites content has to be available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License. If you give a read through of the terms of the license on the linked to page, and you agree with them, you can go ahead and add a bit of text to the footer of your website saying the content is available under those terms (you'll notice a footer saying such on Wikipedia if you look) and now Wikipedians will be able to copy content from your website.
Please note that licensing your website content Creative Commons does not negate the Conflict of Interest issues that Shirt58 mentioned. It would allow other Wikipedians to use content from your website. You would still be barred from doing so because of your conflict of interest.
I thought I'd come by and let you know all of this after seeing your message on AlanS' talk page. If you have any questions, (about anything Wikipedia related, not just this!) feel free to let me know. Welcome to Wikipedia! Zell Faze (talk) 20:32, 21 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the response!
[edit]Hi guys,
Thanks for all your replies, obviously I'm new here so still figuring things out. Shirt58, so I should remove the reference to snakeoutbrisbane.com completely to avoid conflict of interest? If I'm using photos from my website, can they be linked to my website or is that also conflict of interest since it could lead to people clicking through to my website for more snake images as we have extensive photo and video galleries of animals in the field? Again, happy to change all this if necessary. Zell Faze, I've reworded a lot of the text if that helps!
Cheers, Janne
PS just saw changes made to the site, thanks whoever did the references! If you want better photos (and descriptions for all crowned snake species) let me know! — Preceding unsigned comment added by JanneTorkkola (talk • contribs) 01:29, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
