Prose rather than lists
[edit]Hi and welcome to wikipedia. I've reverted your edits to the Salford article as in general prose is preferred to bulleted lists. The relevant policy is here: "Do not use lists if a passage reads easily using plain paragraphs". Happy editing.
- but it didn't read easily. Also did you remove the designer Celia Birtwell? I have seen a lot of equivalent headings of notable people & they always form a list- if it is in prose each person adding someone will have to make up a sentance about them which may be discouraging, & will form disjointed writing in the final outcome.
- Sorry about Celia Birtwell, please feel free to re-add her. The Salford article is admittedly not perfect. Some examples from the Greater Manchester wikiproject demonstrate that prose is prefered: Altrincham, Shaw and Crompton, Stretford, and Oldham. These are all Featured Articles, some of the best wikipedia has to offer, and have been read and reread, and copy edited for style. Good Articles (such as Ashton-under-Lyne, Sale, Greater Manchester, Urmston, Didsbury, Milnrow, Radcliffe, Greater Manchester, and Royton) encourage the use of prose and articles can fail a GA review if they have lists. Although many articles on wikipedia, it is sadly not the best way of presenting information.
- Ideally, the notable people section in the Salford article would flow nicely, however since the section is incomplete there are some awkward jumps. Not everybody needs a sentence though. For example Ashton-under-Lyne has several actors from Coronation Street, and this is dealt with in a simple sentence: "Several Coronation Street actors are also associated with the town; Amanda Barrie,[122] Dawn Acton,[123] and Sean Wilson was born in Ashton[124] while Bill Tarmey,[125] Roy Barraclough,[126] Sue Devaney all live in the town".
