Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Jane.fosburg. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 01:59, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 16:49, 28 February 2020 (UTC)- You are clearly only here to promote your company. To be unblocked:
- you must confirm that this account is used by one individual only
- you must agree to avoid creating or directly editing articles related to your organisation (requested edits will still be permitted)
- you must agree to abide by the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use and disclose any paid relationship in accordance with the paid contributor policy
- you must indicate what areas of Wikipedia you intend to edit in the future
If you have no interest in editing Wikipedia beyond writing about your organisation, then you will not be unblocked. If this is the case, I recommend you consider alternative outlets. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 16:50, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
I would like to add the companies factual information such as Marketing & Collabs, Awards and Recognitions, philanthropy and update the stores.. Since Chapter 11 a lot of the information on the store list is very inaccurate @HickoryOughtShirt?4: Jane.fosburg (talk) 17:37, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
- Jane.fosburg, you failed to heed to my message above about COI editing. You will not be unblocked to continue editing promotionally about your company.HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 17:38, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
Hi Hickory, this is my first time using Wikipedia in this way. I am one sole person. I am fine with asking for approval on updating the pge and won't update directly. I will be updating Forever 21 as well as Jay Ellis page.. This won't be my only edit... @HickoryOughtShirt?4: Jane.fosburg (talk) 17:56, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

- To HickoryOughtShirt74, I am in the processing of discussing this matter in detail with the user via the IRC help channel. I would request that you refrain from taking any further action (such as block TP access) until I've had a moment to try and clarify for the user what is expected of them on Wikipedia. Thank you! - No problem.. They've declared here. They'll be making another unblock request shortly. Waggie (talk) 18:41, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
- HickoryOughtShirt?4, hopefully the below unblock request addresses your concerns? My personal opinion is that this user is sincere in their desire to contribute constructively. I've given them a very thorough explanation of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines regarding COI editing, reliable sourcing, and edit requests. To be fair to them, I gave them the explanation about reliable sourcing after they cited the Prada press release below, but in the case of that particular edit, I think a press release would probably be acceptable (WP:ABOUTSELF and all).
