Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Jamierdraven. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page James Raven, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template)—don't forget to give details of reliable sources supporting your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Tacyarg (talk) 20:38, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you - I merely wanted to make the article (about myself) more accrtae and up to date by adding at the end of the first paragraph
- 'He is currently Life Fellow of Magdalene College, University of Cambridge (since 2010) and Professor in the Department of Humanities, NTNU, Trondheim, Norway.'
- Both these approintments are verifiable on the websites of the respective instituitions
- Sincerely

- Thanks for providing that link! I've used it to make some edits to the article. I also want to re-emphasize one of the bullet points above, namely, the process for proposing changes to the article. Any time you notice something on the article that needs improving, you just need to copy-paste the following text on the article's Talk page:
- {{edit COI}}
- * Specific text to be added or removed: ADD TEXT HERE
- * Reason for the change: ADD TEXT HERE
- * References supporting change: ADD URL AT LEAST
- ~~~~
- That will create an edit request, and someone else will take a look at it to make the change on your behalf. In fact, if you'd like to add {{u|LEvalyn}} in your message, I will get a "ping" and I would be happy to personally take a look.
- Also -- you should feel free to make direct edits to any other part of Wikipedia where you spot mistakes! I'm sure your expertise means you see them often. It is best to also include a citation when you add material, which can be to an offline source. Here is some information on the technical part of adding citations, just in case. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 01:09, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
