Soviet Navy
[edit]Hi there!
Just wanted to let you know that I've added some stuff to the Soviet Navy article of yours. I'm gonna finish working on the Northern Fleet part of the article tonight.

Wikinews demo up and running
[edit]Hi!
I'm writing to let you know that the Wikimedia Board of Trustees has approved the first stage of the Wikinews project. There's now a fully operational English demo site at demo.wikinews.org. This will be used for experimenting with various review models and basic policies before the site is launched officially in about a week. demo.wikinews.org will become the English version later.
You voted for the Wikinews project, so I'm asking for your participation now. Everything is open, nothing is final. What Wikinews will and can be depends in large part on you. There already is a global Wikinews mailing list for discussing the project. If you are interested at all, please subscribe -- coordination is of key importance. There's also an IRC channel #wikinews on irc.freenode.net. Realtime discussion can help to polish up articles.
If you're looking for something to do, check out the articles in development and articles in review. Or start a new story in the Wikinews workspace, or ignore the proposed review system - it's up to you. I hope you'll join us soon in this exciting experiment.--Eloquence* 01:58, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)
Spore
[edit]Thanks for the heads up on the Spore (game) podcast. I listened to it and found it quite interesting. If I add something based on what Gaming Steve said, I'll move the link to the article's references section. --Mrwojo 21:25, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
WikiPortal and the GCOTW
[edit]I'll write this in English for the convenience of or English Wikipedian pals. Technically speaking that portal isn't mine. If you've got anything useful to add, I'd be happy. I'd be less happy about deletions, but that's always negotiable. ;) -- Mgm|(talk) 18:06, Mar 29, 2005 (UTC)
COTW Project
[edit]You voted for Decolonization, this week's Collaboration of the week. Please come and help it become a featured-standard article. Tony Jin | (talk) 02:22, Apr 27, 2005 (UTC)
Hi there, Jacoplane! Judging by your valuable contributions to the Soviet Navy, I thought you'd be interested in checking out my latest article on Imperial Russian Navy. Please, let me know what you think. It'd be especially great if we could upload some pictures and stuff (I'm still not sure how to do it, tried many times :)). The article is still missing info about the development of the Russian Navy after the Crimean War until the October Revolution. Info on the Russo-Japanese War would also be much appreciated, I suppose. Hope to hear from you soon! KNewman 20:06, May 20, 2005 (UTC)
eerste nl.wikimedia.org ontmoeting
Wikiportal Video games
[edit]Are you going somewhere with your edits on Wikipedia:Wikiportal/Computer and video games ?? If you don't like the colors or something maybe you should discuss it first. Jacoplane 02:05, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- I believe I am. Is it showing up differently on your screen, and if so, what browser are you using? It should look just about the same as it did before I started editing. Slike2 02:08, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- I'm using firefox and it's completely warped. Looks something like this... Jacoplane 02:16, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC) Image:Cvgportal.jpg
- I see. I was editing (accidentally breaking) a template at the time, it should be good now. Would you mind having a look? Slike2 02:18, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Well, I have to admit having patience is not something I excell at. But yeah that looks good, having more spaced tables. :) Jacoplane 02:25, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks :) The reason I was doing it in the first place was because I was having a terrible time going through the portals fixing various display issues - I'm on firefox as well, and I guess lots of people are on IE, since there's quite a few screw-ups in regards to css around (have a look at "in the news" at [1] for an example.) And the pages were a mess (code-wise), and hard to change, with all that code in there. Hopefully after I'm done things'll be easier. Slike2 02:32, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC)

- When I press the edit-button in any of the boxes in the portal now, I seem to get an empty page. This can't be how you meant it right? Jacoplane 30 June 2005 04:13 (UTC)
- There was a request that the ed template be changed to ed2, have a look at Wikipedia_talk:Wikiportal#Wikiportal_box_templates for reasons. I don't mind either way, though I do think that that method of organization is better. If you'd like, the changes could be reverted, or it may be better to move the pages over. Sorry for the confusion. Slike2 30 June 2005 08:43 (UTC)
MMX bosses
[edit]Why not try something like Mega Man II where each Irregular gets his sprite put next to his name? The extra space this creates can be padded out with the information we know about each (measurements, motivations, Unit in the Maverick Hunters they belong to, etc). --Boco XLVII 7 July 2005 17:59 (UTC)
Thanks - I didn't know there was a template available for indicating that. :-) GreenReaper 00:00, 25 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit]I'm curious, why did you remove several edits and nominees that should not have been removed from the improvement drive. --ZeWrestler Talk 18:50, 25 July 2005 (UTC)

Copyright
[edit]Thanks for answering some of User:GrumpyTroll's questions. My understanding of Wikipedia:Copyright problems, is that it's for pages suspected of copyright violation as well as a place to discuss those possible problems. If you flat out notice a copyright violation (which I did in this case) you can simply revert it. I've been told in the past to "remove any copyright violations you notice with extreme prejudice." So that's essentially what I go by for pages that have been established for quite awhile. K1Bond007 20:40, July 26, 2005 (UTC)
GCOTWvoter
[edit]Hey I changed the style to the template:GCOTWvoter. It just looked awkward, so I attempted to clean it up. Anyway, you can change it back to the background color you previously had or to any background color you want - I don't really care, I just did it to kind of keep a standard color going. It doesn't really matter though. :) If you don't like my changes at all, thats cool too, revert away. K1Bond007 07:13, August 5, 2005 (UTC)
Ayan Hirsi Ali + Islamic feminism
[edit]Firstly - I deleted some of your information about her on the see also. A short sentence is more than enough for a see also. Secondly... it's rather up in the air if she is for Islamic feminism... she is against abuse... but she is not coming at the issue from within Islam nor was it theological. Qasim Amin was and so do women like Amina Wadud and Asma Barlas, etc. I didn't remove her name... but I'd like to see why you think she fits. gren グレン 13:09, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
- Well, it can't be said that she's a Muslim feminist at least... I don't think. Muslim feminism is creating (or justifying) female positive views of Islam. Ayan Hirsi Ali seems to have negative views of how Islam treats females... that is why I don't think she contributes to the discourse of Muslim feminism... it seems like she more rejects Muslim feminism. Does she believe that religiously there can be a female positive view of Islam? I didn't think so, I thought that she wanted to help Muslim women... but not through religion, through other means of protection... and that's why I don't think she fits into that category. gren グレン 16:32, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
- Agreed, she could either be in the critique section or mentioned next to various Islamic feminist ideas... it seems to fit best in the women in Islam critique areas... but I think the critique on the feminism page should be something like "most critiques of Islamic feminism are critiques of the rights of women in Islam" *make a few points* "for more on that debate see Women in Islam." I think something along those lines would be best. gren グレン 21:21, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
Wouter Bos
[edit]Hello. I saw your comment about Wouter Bos. He would be according to you the next prime-minister. Well this is of course not the place to discuss politics but I have to say that the information that you've bought from left-wing media like the NOS is false. I wish that you and your left-wing friends will not say false information about the dutch politics. People like you are destroying the dutch reputation in the world.
- Sure. I guess I can't help myself, I'm just a left-wing fanatic. heh. Jacoplane 11:05, 6 August 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry bro. I think my comment there was a bit overdone. My appologize for that. May be your right about that remark you made bout the largest opposition party. Wiki213ip 18:13, 7 August 2005 (UTC)
bilingual?
[edit]Hi, how come you have two native languages (nl and en)? Does this mean you were raised as a bilingual? Www.wikinerds.org 23:37, 11 August 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah pretty much. I spoke Dutch with my parents at home and English at school and with my friends. Jacoplane 23:51, 11 August 2005 (UTC)
Sure
[edit]No problem, imitation is the highest form of flattery. As for being an atheist Jew, Judaism is a culture/ethnicity, and atheism is a religious view. The two aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. Andre (talk) 04:41, August 13, 2005 (UTC)
Common grammar error
[edit]I have noticed that you often confuse its and it's in your messages, especially using the latter as a possessive instead of using the former. For future reference, may I refer you to Common Errors in English so you no longer doubt yourself as to which form to adopt. (Please do excuse me for being such a nitpicker.) Next Bond
[edit]I honestly don't know. Although I have no current reason, my instinct says James Purefoy. I've thought this since approximately, May. Since then; however, he's fallen off the radar and I have no real reason to suspect he's still "in the running." Other high potential contenders could be Goran Višnjić and Alex O'Lachlan. Theres a lot of BS out there with some contenders being super young or super old. It's all smoke and mirrors. I know it won't be Brosnan and I never thought it would be Hugh Jackman (still don't believe that rumor). I could be wrong just as much as the next guy though. K1Bond007 22:10, August 18, 2005 (UTC)

You're an Idiot
[edit]That man offended alot of people. One guy out of millions came and killed him. Just because your little racist mind is looking to find a reasons to hate muslims doesn't mean there will be valids one. Go out there and see what the world truly is.

I'm sorry, I just don't see how Mr. van Gogh is responsible for his own death because he offended a lot of people. Regarding your 'racist' comment, I'm not even going to validate that with a response. Jacoplane 19:07, 28 August 2005 (UTC)His own fault. He offend alot of people.WTF does he expect? Boxart, logos, and screenshots - oh my!
[edit]I wrote up my thoughts on Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Final Fantasy VI. Essentially, Final Fantasy may be the only exception to the rule in my opinion. Forgetting that there are multiple versions of boxart out there (US v Europe v Japan v ??), the game has been released numerous times and has many different box covers. One even says Final Fantasy III (NA), while others mostly say Final Fantasy VI. It's really a quagmire and in this specific instance, it may be more suitable to show the logo for the game, rather than a editor-chosen box cover. For the record, I agree with the consensus (I believe there was one) that editors should use boxart when available over screenshots. Screenshots, in my opinion are too vague and don't paint a good enough picture - for instance, can you tell the difference between a screenshot of Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2? Maybe, but if not of a notable feature, doubtful (one reason of many). -- Perhaps in retrospect, I should have made a note that unless the rules for boxart are more clearly stated (i.e. First release box art takes precedence over later releases, remakes etc or US/english speaking v Japanese/non-english speaking or something to this effect) then this should be ok. What I don't want is to see games that are nothing like this, such as Splinter Cell or Metroid start using logos over box covers. -- I truly don't know. Perhaps, it would be easier to say always use boxart regardless. I'd really like to see a little more discussion on this rather than people quoting WP:CVG as a guideline as a definitive rule.
