Some guidance
[edit]Hi Jacksonpanix, saw your note at the helpdesk. Sources do not need to be available online but they do need to be published and accessible even if it requires library resources, such as newspaper and magazine archives. You just need enough information to cite it "manually" (author, date, title, publication, etc.). I will search some resources available at the WP:Library such as Newspapers.com (you do not meet the criteria for Wikipedia Library access but you can use your local library, if inclined). Also, you should be using the book as a source, summarizing some key points to write the article, rather than just stating a book was written about him. I removed the Abe citation and added a "proper" citation for the book. Also, I would trim some of info about the albums, the quote and members especially, as it does not appear he is notable as a musician and the article is about him, the person, not the albums. I am sure there is a way to cite the album directly but will have to dig around to figure out how. In the interim, I removed Discogs and used AllMusic which is an acceptable source. - I found some sources in newspaper archives so have added them and also found he was featured in another book. While I don't have access to the book, there is a book review about it which I added as source. He certainly is notable so I have started laying out some structure to the draft, which I hope you follow and jump in. S0091 (talk) 19:07, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for your help and for adding the references. I made some small edits today and will take another look tomorrow.
- I'm curious if you can tell me why AllMusic is an acceptable resource, but Discogs is not? Jacksonpanix (talk) 01:32, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
- Great question! Discogs is user-generated with no editorial oversight (like Wikipedia, which is also not a reliable source) while AllMusic has editorial oversight and fact-checking. However not all AllMusic content is considered reliable. Only the content written by staff so user reviews are not usable, etc. You can read more about music sources at WP:WikiProject Albums/Sources and some common general sources at WP:RSP, if interested. I will try to get back to the draft over the next week and I will also try to do "clippings" of the newspapers sources which I think will allow you to be able read them. - If you do not see me working on the draft in the next week or so, please remind me on my talk page (click the "talk" link by my signature to leave me a message). I am interested but may forget. S0091 (talk) 19:20, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
