The Law Barnstar | ||
for being fair, tolerant and constructive in the GA review of Criminal damage in English law. You could have just left it once you'd passed it, but you went the extra mile and improved it further to make this article one of the few GA's dealing with English criminal law. Many thanks. Rodhullandemu 18:30, 3 June 2008 (UTC) |
Thinking about it, if Common scold gets to be a Featured Article, do you think Criminal damage in English law would be a worthy candidate? --Rodhullandemu 19:30, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- You're welcome, and thanks very much for the barnstar! As for your question, my feeling is that "Criminal damage in English law" will need more work before it stands a chance of achieving Featured Article status. I think the "Common law" and "Early legislation" sections will need to be fleshed out, and you will definitely need to refer to some standard secondary texts. As FAs are intended to represent the best that Wikipedia can offer, FA reviewers require articles to refer to all relevant offline material, including books, encyclopedias and scholarly articles. You will also need to comply with applicable Manuals of Style. If you don't think that there's much more you can add to the article, it may not be the best one to try to take to FA status. I've taken two articles to FA status, and both times found the process quite challenging. Click on "Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Richard Hakluyt" and "Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Emery Molyneux" to see the sorts of comments and queries I had to deal with. But I'd definitely encourage you to try for it! You should probably start by trying to get hold of some standard criminal law texts to see how they deal with the topic, and by doing some research to find relevant journal articles (if any).
- P.S. What a coincidence – I was on the University of Birmingham's University Challenge team last year. We got as far as the second round before being knocked out by Magdalen College, Oxford, but with the satisfaction that the score was 210–200! — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 21:18, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- He he, thanks, it's up there already. I still have the videos somewhere of our attempts; we somewhat thrashed the London School of Economics by about 100 points in our first match, but got done over by Trinity College Dublin in the next match by the same margin. But then, we had Bamber Gascoigne (from whom I always got the impression that if you weren't Oxbridge, he wasn't really that interested), and you had Paxo. Did you go for a drink with him afterwards? On other notes, I followed up your "global" FA submissions and, er, I think I need to wind down a little before going through that amount of stress. Cheers! --Rodhullandemu 02:22, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- No, I'm afraid Paxman didn't take us out for drinks, but Grenada TV did give us vouchers for lunch at their staff canteen! Was Gascoigne as snappy as Paxman is? Apparently Gascoigne is a regular Wikipedia editor. You should try out some of the other features of the University Challenge userbox! Hope you do try to get one of your articles to FA status at some stage – it's hard work but quite satisfying if you succeed. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 15:47, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- Bamber was charming and not in the least snappy. I like the new Userbox, except we don't have a free image of BG on Commons to put into a version for "older" participants. I'll try emailing him & see if he will let us have one. --Rodhullandemu 16:09, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, do. If he agrees, it can also be used on his Wikipedia page as well. If you'd like to use the userbox without the Paxman image, just substitute "image=shape" or leave out the "image" parameter altogether for the "UC" logo. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 16:03, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, he doesn't have email enabled, sadly, but I have left a request on his talk page. I'm sure he's affable enough to agree. --Rodhullandemu 16:09, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
