Peer Review of Jacks Article

Lead

  • Has the Lead been updated to reflect the new content added by your peer?: Since you are working on adding segments from the article itself, the lead has not been touched. If you are working on changing it I would advise adding that to the sandbox for context!

Content

  • Is the content added relevant to the topic?: The added changes to the body dysmorphic disorder are clearly stated and relevant to today. The original Body Dysmorphic Disorder had a section on the effect that Social Media had on aggravating the disorder in modern society. I will say that I had to compare the original article and yours to find where the additions were made. If a note could be made perhaps in the future of where your edits begin it would be very helpful!
  • Is the content added up-to-date?: For the most part yes. "Influencers Are Causing Body Dysmorphia Within the Fitness Industry" was published in 2022, and "Understanding and treating body dysmorphic disorder" was published in 2019. "Genetic Aspects of Skeletal Muscle Strength and Mass with Relevance to Sarcopenia" was published in 2012 which makes it the oldest source but I would still say its relevant.
  • Is there content that is missing or content that does not belong?: I don't think so, you did a very good job organizing.
  • Does the article deal with one of Wikipedia's equity gaps? Does it address topics related to historically underrepresented populations or topics?: In this portion of the article it does not. I wanted to mention that when reading your additions I couldn't help but think about Chloe Ting. She was one of the most prominent fitness influencers during the pandemic and today. I would recommend checking her out because she appealed to a mostly female demographic

Tone and Balance

  • Is the content added neutral?: Yes. You kept the tone of your additions neutral. It blended in rather seamlessly with the original prose.
  • Are there viewpoints that are overrepresented, or underrepresented?: Like I mentioned previously, where you're adding information I don't know if that is necessary. I do think mentioning the Chloe Ting phenomenon would add the female perspective to fitness influencers

Sources and References

  • Is all new content backed up by a reliable secondary source of information? - I would say for the most part all of these sources are reliable. Mindless Mag was the only one I was curious about but after further investigation, I can see it's a very relevant and professionally put-together news source.
  • Are the sources written by a diverse spectrum of authors? Do they include historically marginalized individuals where possible?: Yes. One of the sources is an academic journal from India. Mindless Mag was started by a woman and is catered to a more female audience.
  • Are there better sources available, such as peer-reviewed articles in place of news coverage or random websites? (You may need to do some digging to answer this.) I think finding an article on the Pandemic era of fitness and "challenges" would be really interesting. But for the most part, you use academic sources so I don't think so.

Organization

  • Is the content added well-written - i.e. Is it concise, clear, and easy to read? Yes it is easy to read. If you want to just make sure, read it out loud before submitting it to make sure it flows.
  • Does the content added have any grammatical or spelling errors?; Not that I could find.

Overall impressions

Has the content added improved the overall quality of the article - i.e. Is the article more complete?/How can the content added be improved?: The article itself is already rather developed but you add points that I think are relevant to this day and age. The focus on fitness influencers is important to the topic with the rise of the internet. I would even encourage you to expand on it further in the points I mentioned above. I also believe the article could benefit from a more detailed explanation of performance-enhancing drugs. I recommend adding some common examples. I also think if there have been any recent surveys done on social media's effect on body dysmorphia add those statistics, so the reader can get a more defined picture.

What are the strengths of the content added? : relevancy and it makes the article more accessible to younger generations (who are the demographic you are writing about) Lcortez26 (talk) 03:08, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
