A troublesome user

Hi Jack,
I'm not sure if you have admin powers, but I noticed that you made the following comment on Wicka wicka's talk page about six weeks ago:

I don't care how upset you are at your fellow users. The next time you offer a comment like this, I will see you blocked indefinitely. There are people just like yourself on the receiving end of your comments; be polite or begone. Lastly, suggesting that you have other accounts is almost an invitation to an SPI and a permablock. Please knock it off.

Not to be a tattle-tale, but he's at it again, and I get the distinct impression that he is going to be a bit of a problem. He posted this on the talk page for the 2012 Formula One season:

You people are the worst, honestly. Car launch dates are a useful piece of information, period, and should be included in the article. Nothing else matters other than that. Ask yourself: are there people out there who might want that information? If the answer is "yes," it belongs in the article. Wikipedia is going downhill fast. All you people do these days is create arbitrary standards of what is and isn't "notable" when in reality you should just include everything, because it's a fucking website and not a physical book.

I'm not entirely sure what has set him off, because he hasn't actually edited the main page (at least not recently), but he is either upset that the editors of that page have a consensus that he disagrees with (release dates don't affect the overall season, so there is no reason to include them in the article), or he's looking to cause trouble for the fun of it. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 22:52, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

I'd suggest you report the user. That sort of edit is at best problematic, and at worst, a fuse heralding some rather destructive behavior ahead. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 03:21, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Let you know

I'm working on the Arbcom RfC right now, might need a little help organizing it. But, anyways, Scotty sent me all of the emails he exchanged with Arbcom, which doesn't compromise anything of them, as they only responded to him once, after his first two emails, saying they would review his case. After that, he received no replies from them, even after around ten subsequent emails to them. No explanation whatsoever. And he put his case forward rather well. From his edits and everything else, i'm seeing no connection with Mantanmoreland whatsoever. SilverserenC 05:23, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Arbitration Committee RfC

I have started one at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Arbitration Committee 3. If you would like to add yourself as a certifying party and perhaps make a statement, it would be appreciated. Also, if you would like to change the formatting a bit, please feel free. This is my first RfC creation and this also isn't a common type of RfC, so I used a generalized format. email

Hey, I got your email. It has become a long, sad, startling tale, in some ways awful, still unfolding. Rather than tell it to you in an email, which would take much time to write fairly, try searching for their old username in the ANI and AN archives. Cheers, Gwen Gale (talk) 23:19, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

I saw the plagiarism stuff, and that it had gone back for quite some time. I just don't understand what made him go off the rails like that. Do you have any inkling as to why that happened? There is a lot of recriminatory postings (from G. mostly, but not altogether without reason), but no real input from R. themselves.
Wait...old username? Are they active as someone else? I thought that plagiarism kinda ruined you as a credible editor like, forever. Am I wrong? - Jack Sebastian (talk) 02:26, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
I would think not, given that "forever" on the Internet can often be something like 3-5 years. They do seem to have come back behind at least one new account, maybe two, which would at least blow the RTV thing. Among other big worries, as I understand it, after all this time, there is still a lot of checking for copyvios from the old account (and cleaning any up) yet to be done. There's still a long thread on all this at AN which might bring you up to date (if you haven't seen it). Gwen Gale (talk) 19:27, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
I did see it, and I simply had to close it after a while. Hans was just the hammer and Rlevse himself provided the nails to seal his casket shut. That said, it was just so sad to find out that someone my Dad told me to emulate on Wikipedia is such a disappointment. As Dad's in chemo, I am not letting him know about this bit. Thanks for responding Gwen. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 20:35, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

"Hellfire and Sweater Meat", just published in the Houston Press online at http://blogs.houstonpress.com/artattack/2012/02/hellfire_and_sweater_meat_in_d.php, provides a defense for DC's reboot of Starfire. I'd argue that a quote or two from this article should be included since all reviews currently in this section voice the same objection to the reboot at extremely great length. (Since you are one of the brave ones who manage this popular page, I thought I'd contact you vs. doing it myself) Skingski (talk) 23:52, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

ArbCom RfC

Trying to get some path set here for how to proceed on the ArbCom RfC.--The Devil's Advocate (talk) 06:28, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Ok. I was rude and I apologize.

Yes my comment could have been more civilized, and I apologize for even writing what I did. Just like other people who try to help by adding information I was only doing the same. I only put down characters everyone has seen in all four Young Justice Invasion trailers. I didn't put that the characters would join the team, just new people to show possibly to the team. I noticed everytime someone trys to be helpful and put information on any of the pages, that you yourself did not put, it automatically gets deleted. And when my helpful bit of info was deleted, I got pissy and wrote something I shouldn't have. For the record I did retract my comment (I did feel guilty and deleted what I wrote). So once again sorry. 68.0.143.54 (talk) 18:45, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

thank you for taking the time to write me with a gracious apology. :) - Jack Sebastian (talk) 19:28, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
You're welcome. :) Now I don't want to come off as a prude, but is there anyway the info I had regarding new characters be put in? My thing is not everyone has access to YouTube thus preventing them from seeing what new characters will be making their way on the show. If not it's cool, but if yes that's great. I really only want to help. 68.0.143.54 (talk) 21:02, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
Well, here's the thing: WP:YT notes that there are a host of problems with using YouTube. The main problem here is that whoever uploaded the video was infringing on the show's copyright, and by linking to it, we are supporting that sort of stupid nonsense. Another (but no less important) issue is that we are not in a hurry to report of things like television programs. As an encyclopedia, we are - and should be - the last to report on anything. The reason for that is simple: we use the citations and quotations, evaluations and feelings of others in our articles. It takes time for those to be generated. Therefore, we have to wait for them before we include them. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 22:04, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
Ok, that is fair. I won't bother you anymore on the subject. Once you read this feel free to delete this conversation if you want. As I'm typing this I'm reading the little bit of info stating "Content that violates blah blah blah. Encyclopedic yada yada yada. I realize where you were coming from when you were deleting information put on the pages.68.0.143.54 (talk) 23:46, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
Actually I have a question. On my page, there is a record of everything I've done. Then there are numbers in parentheses in red and green. What is that? A score system or something?68.0.143.54 (talk) 23:57, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

It's really not a bother, anon; I do like to help, and its easier to do so when thoughtful peeps come by and talk 'to' rather than 'at' me.

As for the red and green stuff, I am not sure what that might represent, apart from the the colors you have chosen to denote unvisited/visited links. You might want to get some assistance from here. As for the numbers themselves, they are probably showing how many characters you have added or taken away from an article (using + or - to do so) - that number is in parentheses. The number before that is the time GMT that you made the edit, based on 24-hour clock. If you are seeing different numbers than these, it would be good to ask about them at the link above. :) - Jack Sebastian (talk) 02:57, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

It's me...just with a registered account. Anyway I have a question for you. I'm very much peeved at the Avengers movie page. Can they do that? Post the plot synopsis I mean. I was so looking forward to seeing it when it comes out. It's the same day as my birthday after all. And I just went to the page only to find they posted full plot summary. I understand the red carpet premiere was on the 14th, and it aired out of country but it has yet to air for the general public. Should it be put up days before the release for the general public? Thankfully I don't remember most of what was put up but it still upsets me. Oh and I apologize if this isn't the proper place to ask. I just figured I could ask you. Smako26 (talk) 19:10, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
Welcome to Registered Userhood™! :) To answer your question, I should point out that when I started editing, I felt the same way. My Dad taught me how to edit, and explained that, as an encyclopedia, spoiler alerts are best left to the user forums on other pages; we even have a guideline on it, called WP:SPOILER. Our job is to give the interested reader an overview of the topic. that includes the plot. If it were displayed before the film came out, ti could be considered a copy violation, as it might interfere with the creators of that product to make money on their creation. Once it's out, its fair game.
In the future, you need to keep yourself from visiting the article pages for newly-released movies. That's hard to do, but as far as I know, its the only way to avoid spoilers. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 22:21, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Young Justice update

I have seen the Season 2 opener of Young Justice and I had to update the characters sections with the new additions to the Young Justice team. I hope you don't mind the addition to the character section. Outside of that, what do you think of the expansion to the team in this morning's episode? Rtkat3 (talk) 2:26, April 28 2012 (UTC)

I'm not the guy who updates the Young Justice page, but I just thought I should point out that it's not confirmed that the members are automatically Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma, Zeta squad members. During the episode it's implied that the team members are assigned to different squads. So where as Batgirl and Wonder Girl first stated as Beta Squad later Cassie is part of Alpha with Dick and Batgirl & Bumblebee are assigned to Beta. So it differs...might want to fix that. Smako26 (talk) 19:17, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
I'm not the boss of the page, Smako26 - the place to make that point would be in the article discussion page. With your permission, I'll port this post over there. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 20:25, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
Permission granted, but also my question in the Apology topic I made when I was anon? Smako26 (talk) 21:39, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

No, our interaction issue is just that - ours. Its best to try and leave inter-user issues off of article discussion pages. I was referring to just the YJ stuff. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 21:45, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

I apologize, I should have been a little more clearer. I was refering to your answer regarding the question I had posted in the Apology topic regarding the Avengers movie page. I wanted to ask you about something regarding that page considering I trust your input. Smako26 (talk) 21:52, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
Okay, I'm a litle lost - I don't remember editing in the Avengers page. Could you offer a diff concerning the topic? And I appreciate the trust. :) - Jack Sebastian (talk) 21:53, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
Apparently so am I...when you read this, scroll up to the Apology topic I sent you. Then read the part where I ask the question regarding the Avengers page. It'll be the last paragraph. I know you weren't the one who edit the Avengers movie page, I just had a question in regards to it. Smako26 (talk) 21:59, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
Oh, duh. Okay, i see. I'll respond where you asked. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 22:14, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Skrull/Chitauri interview reference

Could you add this reference to the Chitauri article? It would be very good to have it there. Kurt Parker (talk) 18:00, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Hey, I saw that you posted the reference to the Chitauri talk page, but I didn't have time to add it to the article before an inexplicable event happened: the talk page was deleted. The talk page has since been restarted, but since it was deleted I can't go back in the history to see what you had posted. Would you mind posting it again? Thank you! Kurt Parker (talk) 14:11, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
The Skrull talk page has the quote, but it doesn't have a link to the actual article. I could have sworn you posted the link on the Chitauri talk page before it was deleted. But whether you posted it there or not doesn't really matter. Could you post the link for that reference to the Chitauri talk page, the Skrull talk page, or my talk page? I would really appreciate it! Thank you. Kurt Parker (talk) 14:02, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi. I was a little taken aback by your edit summary here ("bs category, requiring vast amounts of speculation. Peddle it elsewhere, please") and I'm not sure I understand what you mean, so I'm going to peddle it here. Adding people to BLP categories has been long established and is, in fact, an administrative requirement. If you edit Category:Living people, there is an explicit message telling editors not to delete the category because Jimbo Wales decrees that is necessary for the administration of the project with a subsequent lengthy explanation of its importance - that's a pretty strong statement that I haven't seen on any other page. So I would strongly argue that it's not "bs". I would also argue that it does not require "vast amounts of speculation", but is the exact opposite. Of all the possible BLP administration categories (Living people, possibly living people, year of death missing etc. etc.) this is the only one that requires absolutely no speculation a fact that, unfortunately, has turned it into a dumping ground of a category for anyone too disinterested to do a simple Google search on whether a person is alive or not. "Possibly living people" says one of two things: "I have no way of determining if this person is alive or dead" or "I don't care to speculate/do the research to figure out whether or not this person is alive or dead." So I don't see where the "vast amounts of speculation" come in.
I try not to be a category dumper and not to use "possibly living people" unless its absolutely necessary but, in this case, from my review of the article (I came across it trying to clean up Wikipedia:Database reports/Living people on EN wiki who are dead on other wikis in case you're interested), it seemed like the most appropriate administrative category. If you are more familiar with the article, however, I would be happy to take into consideration any of your thoughts. Best, Canadian Paul 04:37, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. I agree that Welden is, as you say, by all accounts almost certainly not alive, but the problem is that whether or not she is dead is not verifiable. That she could (theoretically) still be alive is verifiable, whereas in the examples that you provides (Elvis, Morrison, etc.) the information that they are dead is verifiable in multiple, reliable sources. Even though the "missing people" category covers what is verifiable, it does not seem to cover the administrative requirements of WP:BLP, but there is no explicit consensus that people is Category:Missing people need to be in a BLP category (Possibly living people, year of death missing) as well, so I suppose there's not much sense in debating/arguing about it. But it may be something worth determining a broader consensus on in the future... Canadian Paul 04:03, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Thomas Wayne revisited

Hi, Jack, Look I know I've been giving you stress with the wierd edits on the Thomas Wayne page. It's just that, well when the page gets new changes in it, and there's no perfect way of changing it to fit to print on the print priview page, I feel like I force myself to do that stupid risk to do that foolish thing to do what you hate me to do, so I can fit it perfectly to print it. I'm not trying to sobotage or screw the page on purpose. It's just something wierd I do to print it in my dumb way and then I put it back to fix it back the way it's supposed to stay as, until some other user puts like something new and important to put or add to the character's history and apperances. Look, I know thiz is my first time talking to you, I just want you to know I don't want to give you or this website trouble, even in a bad way. - Frankm.russo.

Young Justice episode summary

Your edit note was a little vague. Can you please specify what was "wrong" with my revision. Rreagan007 (talk) 04:35, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

I was referring specifically to the text that overlooks that Impulse traveled into the past specifically knowing it was a one-way trip, and subsequently lied about it. We are aiming for conciseness and brevity. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 13:12, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
Okay I see what you're talking about. I did that to try to make the viewing experience the same as the plot reading experience, as the viewer isn't aware that he was just pretending until after the "40 years later" part that comes later. But I guess that doesn't matter that much. In the future, if you could just change the parts of my edit that you specifically disagree with instead of reverting the whole thing that might be easier. I really am trying to make the plot summaries better, removing non-essential detail where possible and rewording for brevity while improving readability. Rreagan007 (talk) 14:04, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
You are right; I could do that better, and will endeavor to do so from here on out. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 14:21, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Young Justice: Consistant Vandalism?

Hey Jack, before I say anything, props to your tireless work on the Young Justice page, I'd hate to see what it'd look like without you. Now to the matter at hand: every time we update and add to the page, I see the user: IiLiFa, dump obscene amounts of data on the page, which we have to clean up. I feel it's getting to the point they are merely ignoring the group dynamic and turning the place into a shit-show; it's my opinion the matter constitutes a Level-5 vandalism suspension; but seeing how you are one of the top editors for the page, I figure you should have a say: how about it? Best, Grammarxxx (talk) 5:05, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

Hey Grammarxxx. To begin with, thanks for the very nice things you said. I think the work you do is really helpful, too. There's no way Icould do all the YJ stuff by myself,m uch less keep the work in place; that's due to peeps like yourself, who Get It.
I was a bit thrown by ILFa's edits, but before you condemn them as vandalism, look at them closely. It isn't like some of the other silly crap that sometimes gets added to the article, like about the various romantic entanglements of the teens or the stretched reasonings why Jason Todd must have lived in this universe. And of course, there's the real vandals, who blank the page and add stuff about someone's boobs, or whatever. ILFa may not be discussing their edits (which is always what tends to bother me, as WP is a collaborative effort), but they aren't a vandal. ILFa is a very new user, with less than two dozen edits since the beginning of June. They simply don't know how the encyclopedia works yet. That's why I gave him a welcome template a few days ago.
The learning curve is steep enough for new users. We don't need to call them vandals and make them give up before they really Get It. Remember what it was like for you when you started, and give him/her a chance and maybe some guidance. If they blow it off, or act like douchebags, they'll eventually self-detonate and rid us of their company. There aren't that many people I won't work with in WP, and that's simply because I think that most people bring something to the table here. Even if we disagree with what that is, it doesn't diminish their value. :) - Jack Sebastian (talk) 11:48, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

Jason Todd: Post-crisis origin

List of Young Justice episodes

Hey Jack, over at the List of Young Justice episodes page, we have a bit of a crisis. First, the summaries are split up into days, like it is on the show. Although it's neat, Wikipedia shouldn't be this detailed, it's meant to be general for regular people, specificity is for the Wikia's. Second, because of a recent trailer for new episodes, tons of IP's are making guesses for the next episode, supposedly named "MetaGene". I asked the admins for protection but they feel it doesn't merit. However, this amount of counterproductive edits is vandalism. I figure they wont ignore requests if more than one person asks for help. Thanks - Grammarxxx talk —Preceding undated comment added 04:06, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Ive noticed a lot of editing going on recently, but with a new little one keeping me (and of course his mom) super-busy, I've been waiting for it to die down somewhat until cleaning it up. I think that asking for a semi-protect for a week isn't out of hand. I'll try to lend a hand in cleanup. If the vandalism and OR continues unabated, I'll add my voice to the cal for at least a semi-prot. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 04:46, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Oooops!

Sorry Jack, I'm fairly new here and under the guidance of a mentor who seems to have gone on a permanent vacation. I was attempting to complete my vandalism assignment, and missed the fact entirerly that your edit I reverted was ON A TALK PAGE! Wow, I apologize. Peace! Hudgens

There are two tests in WP:BLPCAT. First, has she publicly self-identified? Yes, so she passes that one. The second, however, is "the subject's beliefs or sexual orientation are relevant to their public life or notability". There's nothing about being Catholic that is relevant to being a Disney starlet. Hudgens is not famous for being Catholic. She's not known as "that Catholic girl from the High School Musical series". Nothing of the sort. If she happened to be Jewish, the level and nature of her notability would be precisely the same.—Kww(talk) 10:32, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

That seems like a somewhat narrow interpretation, but I've an equally narrow one when it comes to sourcing and OR. Thanks for taking the time to explain it to me. :) - Jack Sebastian (talk) 21:13, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

I got a message from you, about civility towards the editors.

Hi. I just saw a message that said I had a new message, and it took me to a conversation between you an some anonymous user. I'm not really sure what's going on, but I'm definitely haven't been leveraging personal attacks against you.
Terribly sorry about whatever's going on, in any case. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.79.255.136 (talk) 01:39, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, I usually offer civility warning against folk who suggest I "suck their dick" when I try to help them edit. Are you suggesting that this was someone else using this very same IP to edit Wikipedia? If so, you need to start an account, or your life in Wikipedia is going to become a tragic series of misunderstandings - Jack Sebastian (talk) 02:30, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Jason Todd edits

Hi, I'm the one who made those Jason Todd edits under Young Justice. I'll reword it if you think that's best but I think that, considering Nightwing's comments in episode 1 and then the sight of a person who was clearly Tim looking at another Robin, it's clear that Jason exists in the YJ earth-16 continuity and should be mentioned. Bellerophone29 (talk) 23:29, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

what would you consider a reliable source then? Because I think the sight of Tim, Dick and a hologram in the same episode proves that it's Jason. The Young Justice Wikia already refers to the hologram as of Todd. And I think it's important to mention all of Jason's "other media" appearances since there are so few. Bellerophone29 (talk) 00:27, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

In Regards to your message

Hi there. I just received your message and I apologize. I realize the amount of effort you have made in keeping the Jason Todd page clean of 'fan edits' making my misinformed edit mightily annoying. However, since the page I chose to source from IGN stated that the hologram in question was Jason Todd in the Young Justice episode, I removed the initial warning and continued with my edit. I realize now that it may fit into simply speculation criteria and my actions may have seemed to be vandalism. Despite this, I do feel that this appearance would be appropriate for the 'In Other Media' section even if listed as a small cameo. Barbara Gordon is cited to have been mentioned in the film 'Under The Red Hood' despite her not being named, which is regarded as a cameo or mention. Of course, I leave the decision up to you and thank you for your message. Regards Bottomlivefan95 (talk) 16:20, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Why did you delete the information? You are censoring. I've seen the movie and the title appears at the end of credits. Also I have the original CD of the band. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Acidnoise (talkcontribs)

You need a source noting the soundtrack. Of course, there is a deeper problem - namely, why is this information important? If no reliable source has noted it, it isn't that important. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 20:28, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
Remember that Wikipedia is the first place where people check the information. ¡But hey, OK, no problem! Thanks to you, Censoreman, the song will be heard by fewer people, and will be more exclusive for me :) - Acidnoise (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:21, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
I get what you are saying, but it is because so many people check Wikipedia that we make sure that our information is indisputable. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 23:09, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

Your revert

Hi, next time you revert someones good faith changes, please undo what you do see as wrong, and don't denote it as vandalism.
Thanks, regards, Gott 10:32, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

You are correct; it was not vandalism. That said, it isn't connected to the article except via tenuous genre affiliation. It would be better off in the Mash up article. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 17:10, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

Yes, the voice list is totally unnecessary. I made it in the hopes that I might find a main cast and guest cast list like in every other TV show but that I couldn't find anything. The list can be removed. FudgeFury(talk|sign|contribs) 10:45, 22 December 2012 (UTC)
