[edit]Hey man, I am here at the moment, but only for a short amount of time, until next Monday. I'm working on my dissertation in the comfort of home :) Btw. I'm on Far Lane, where are you at? - 82.133.33.43 08:59, 5 July 2006 (UTC) (FrancisTyers — not logged in)
Further question, who wrote the blurb on that site you added? [1] It would be nice if they'd release it under the GFDL, so we could improve the Wikipedia page on Normanton-on-Soar. - FrancisTyers · 09:27, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
- Cool (re: asking about the GFDL) btw, what are you studying at college? Oh, and which school did you go to? I was going to go to Loughborough to study for my Alevels, but I stayed on at Harry Carlton instead. - FrancisTyers · 21:20, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
- Science, cool! If theres anything we need more of, its science! :) Yeah, the Masters is pretty hard going, my dissertation is 15,000 words, the title is "Automated Evaluation of Machine Translation at the Sentence Level: A Study in the Domain of Interlingual Subtitles" — the longer and more obscure the better :) After this Masters I'd ideally like to go on to do a PhD, my area of interest is machine translation, specifically machine translation for closely related lesser-used languages. Any idea which out of the three sciences you'll choose yet? And which universities will you be applying for? - FrancisTyers · 08:32, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, it is a lot of work, PhD is more though, I've heard figures of 100,000 words quoted at me o___O — I've heard good things about Edinburgh at least (although on the Machine translation end of things) :) Yeah, University (at least Bachelors) is way easier after sixth form, at least thats what I found, you know how it goes something like GCSEs (easy), A-Levels (hard), Bachelors (easy), Masters (hard) — a simplistic breakdown maybe, but thats what I found. No idea how PhDs fit into that schema yet :) Any degree that ends up in a research position has to be pretty cool ;) - FrancisTyers · 14:19, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
