License tagging for Image:Zoo granby thumb.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Zoo granby thumb.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 07:15, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi JLR. I am not sure if you are interested in Topography but i just wanted to know about your opinion (maybe a review) to the new version of the article. Thanks in advance. -- Szvest Ω Wiki Me Up ® 16:55, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
Image:540s.jpg listed for deletion
[edit]An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:540s.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in its not being deleted. Thank you. —Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 16:59, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
- Per your comment on my talk page, the above image has already been nominated at Images and media for deletion, see the link above. Hey there, JLR-mapman, and welcome to our great encyclopedia, which currently has more than 6,914,363 articles! Even with this large number, all of your contributions are important (including the small ones), and I hope you like the place and decide to stay! Here's a few starting tips for you:
- You might want to check out the welcome page.
- Then you can have a look at our guidelines.
- After that, you can see here for a cheatsheet on editing pages (for a bigger list, see here).
After reading all this (or even just glimpsing at it), I can understand that you might feel apprehensive about editing and contributing articles, for fear of making a mistake. But don't worry too much about mistakes; after all, you're new. Instead, everyone here encourages you to be bold! If you need help with anything, feel free to leave me a message, or you can put {{helpme}}
on your talk page, and someone will show up shortly to give you a hand.
One last thing: when leaving a message on someone's talk page, don't forget to put four "tildes" (~~~~) to automatically sign your name.
Happy Editing! -- P.B. Pilhet / Talk 03:18, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Hi JLR-mapman. I've converted this page into a redirect to save people from having to click another link to get to the page you want them to see. It's really easy to create a redirect - just enter #REDIRECT [[Name of page to redirect to]] as the text of the article, or click the #R button on the toolbar above the edit box. Give me a shout on my talk page if you have any problems or questions. Matt Eason 03:22, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- No problem, happy to help. The information page on redirects lists plurals as a valid reason for adding a redirect so you should be fine adding those. Matt Eason 14:03, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Hello!
[edit]It's great to meet you, too, JRL! You're the first Wikipedian I've met who likes Enya, C.S. Lewis, and God altogether! I'd be glad to assist if you ever needed help with anything. Our encyclopedia is wonderful, and I do know how easy it is to fall in love with it. I saw your article on pictorial maps, and I must say bravo! It looks better than anything I've ever done.
A good way to post information about yourself on your user page is to use userboxes (like I did). For a list of userboxes on a variety of topics, you can see here. I also have a list of userboxes that I have created. God bless, P.B. Pilhet / Talk 19:30, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Image:DT-Mt Geopictorial sample.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:DT-Mt Geopictorial sample.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 06:44, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
NowCommons: File:Venice panoramic map.jpg
[edit]File:Venice panoramic map.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:CPVenice.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[File:CPVenice.jpg]]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. This bot did not copy the image itself. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 19:20, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Quote by
[edit]I have removed the following quote from the article Pictorial map:
- Says Jean-Louis Rheault a contemporary pictorial map artist. “The business has not changed one bit since then!"
According to Wikipedia's policies, we can only have such a quote if it appears, with proper ascription, in a reliable published (not self-published) source, for example an interview in a magazine. If you know of such a source, the quote could be put back – but then in a different place; because of a recent edit it no longer made sense in the spot I removed it from. --Lambiam 19:25, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Contributions.
[edit]Hi JLR-mapman,
I’m not Maria Rabinky but she asked me to help her in that because she is not proficient in Wiki. The piece of writing I was trying to put in is a compilation what has been written Maria for her website and seems to me coincided to the article and interesting. I got your reason, thank you for letting me know. I'll try to formulate more originally. Best wishes.Borber (talk) 16:55, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Geomap-MTL.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Geomap-MTL.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. GrapedApe (talk) 05:06, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:Geopictorial map sample.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Geopictorial map sample.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ~ Rob13Talk 17:11, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
