Question from Thomastenbridge on User talk:Thomastenbridge (14:43, 24 May 2023)

I added a new section to the Glioblastoma page under "Research" and it was removed. I am trying to understand why it was removed so I can edit my submission and repost for approval. Can you tell me why it may have been removed?

Cancer immunotherapy Imvax is a clinical-stage biotechnology company with a platform technology focused on delivering personalized, whole tumor-derived immunotherapy. The most advanced program in their pipeline, IGV-001, is currently in development to treat glioblastoma1. The company has already completed a Phase 1a in recurrent glioblastoma and a Phase 1b in newly diagnosed glioblastoma (ndGBM)2. Imvax initiated a Phase 2b clinical trial of IGV-001 in ndGBM patients in March 2023. The trial is expected to enroll up to 93 participants in a 2:1 randomization across approximately 25 sites in the United States3.

Thomastenbridge, we generally don't mention clinical trials until they end (See WP:CRYSTALBALL for some more explanation as to why). I recommend you ask the editors at WP:WikiProject Medicine for help if you wish to edit in the topic area of oncology. — Ixtal ( T / C ) Non nobis solum. 13:33, 31 May 2023 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – June 2023

News and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2023).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
  • As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.

Technical news

  • Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.

Question from Ahossai (09:51, 15 June 2023)

Hi IXtal, Since Wikipedia assigned you as my mentor, I assumed I could ask you a question. I was copy-editing the page PDF-XChange Viewer to remove promotional content. In that way, I removed a promotional sentence, which was sourced. I therefore removed the source is well. But is this considered good practice? Or should I have discussed it on the talk page before? Ahossai (talk) --Ahossai (talk) 09:51, 15 June 2023 (UTC)

Ahossai, looking over your edit it seems like a constructive change. It is indeed considered good practice to remove overly promotional content even if sourced as long as it can be justified. This may be due to the nature of the source (e.g. it is not independent from the article) or the language itself (Wikipedia is meant to summarize the scholarly consensus and facts about a topic so vague promotional language like "advanced PDF creation options" would not fit our encyclopedic standard unless reliable sources all mention how advanced the options are).
Removing source content can be a hard decision and I believe you took the right one in this case. If you have doubts in the future about content on a page, feel free to ask me for advice here or discuss your proposed change in the article's talk page. Anyways, hope you have a good week and enjoy editing :) — Ixtal ( T / C ) Non nobis solum. 11:51, 22 June 2023 (UTC)

Question from Knocklofty on Hope and Anchor Tavern (00:20, 22 June 2023)

I’m new to editing. How do I upload the changes now? --Knocklofty (talk) 00:20, 22 June 2023 (UTC)

Knocklofty, when you make changes to a page there should be a large blue rectangle at the top of the page that says "Publish changes". Once you click that, a small menu will appear asking you to provide a summary of the change you've made with its own smaller blue rectangle under the textbox that says "Publish changes". Clicking on that will then upload the changes. Hope this helps! — Ixtal ( T / C ) Non nobis solum. 11:45, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
Thanks Ixtal - it worked fine! 159.196.244.81 (talk) 07:03, 23 June 2023 (UTC)
