WP NRHP in the Signpost

"WikiProject Report" would like to focus on WikiProject National Register of Historic Places for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Other editors will also have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. -Mabeenot (talk) 05:04, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Martin Ryerson Tomb

Thanks from me and the wiki Victuallers (talk) 12:12, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

I'm glad someone finally wrote an article on this! One comment: I'm not sure it's true that Graves "brought the first group of settlers to Chicago in 1831". I know that you are working from the source (and the inscription of the statue itself), but there were several people in the Chicago area before Graves, like Du Sable, Kinzie, Mark Beaubien, etc. Maybe the key part of that claim is " first group", but I'm not even confident that that is correct. For the time being, I tweaked the wording to say that Graves brought an early group of settlers to Chicago.

If you know more information, then by all means, revert my change. I just wanted to explain myself. Zagalejo^^^ 05:34, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

That's a good one, too. I'll let you know if I come across anything. Zagalejo^^^ 06:48, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
Just checking, are NRHP nomination forms in the public domain? I noticed a few phrases in the Crusader article that seem to be copied from the form. That could become an issue at DYK. Zagalejo^^^ 22:14, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
They're not, I probably just forgot to use quote marks. Feel free to add them. They should already be footnoted. IvoShandor (talk) 22:29, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
I added some quotes, and paraphrased some things. I also removed a few things which didn't really make much sense to me. (Eg: "The finished product shows no sign of that personal handling by the artist and instead has a uniformly smooth surface." -- If the finished product is made of granite, and not clay, then of course it will look different.) Zagalejo^^^ 02:12, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
If I have a chance later this week, I'll see if I can find more information at the library. I poked through a few internet newspaper archives, but didn't find much of substance. Zagalejo^^^ 02:36, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Benjamin Walworth Arnold House and Carriage House DYK

Thanks (In a strange way, credit yourself with a favor returned after a long time. Years back, you had a DYK for some house out near you in Illinois that was built around it having a secret room and you and someone else just couldn't find a way to word the hook elegantly. I came in and cut the Gordian knot, and we used my hook). Daniel Case (talk) 05:24, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

I am in DC this weekend at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial dedication. I have intended to think about this more closely upon my return.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 12:55, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Interview with Wikimedia Foundation

Hello IvoShandor, I hope you're well. My name is Aaron and I'm one of the Storytellers working on the 2011 fundraiser here at the Wikimedia Foundation. For this year's campaign we're seeking out and interviewing active Wikipedians like yourself, in order to produce a broader and more representative range of "personal appeals" to run come November. If you'd like to participate in this project, please email me at amuszalski@wikimedia.org. Interviews are typically conducted by phone or Skype and take between 30-90 minutes. Thanks! DYK for Schoenhofen Pyramid Mausoleum

The DYK project (nominate) 00:02, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

I I came here (your talk page) to thank you for putting Lorado Taft in the infobox at his Soldiers' Monument in Oregon and discoverd this post. I looked and my picture is still at the pyramid article after 5 years. A pretty long run. I'm working up (a slow process) a couple of more Taft monument articles. Thanks again. DYK for Eternal Silence (sculpture)

The DYK project (nominate) 12:02, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

  • Thanks. If I'm ever in Chicago, I'll try to check it out. Shame the cemeteries in Indonesia tend to not have that many statues (perhaps a religious thing?). Just look at the picture of Karet Bivak Cemetery; quite different than traditionally Christian graveyards, methinks. Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:50, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
  • It's a shame that a lot of it is not exactly well-cared for (check out the graves of the unknown soldiers a little further down). BTW, could you give me a sound bite regarding the Eternal Silence DYK? I've been asked to do a write-up for the Signpost. Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:49, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
