Name in punjabi.
[edit]Chakar village name
[edit]Chakar and Chakkar names both r correct for village because some use Chakar ਚਕਰ ,while some others use ਚੱਕਰ. As i search on internet, it was Chakar ਚਕਰ. but some official papers say it is Chakkar. >I prefer to keep it only ਚਕਰ, Chakar. i know for sure people write village name as Chakar.--Kooljeet (talk) 03:30, 3 July 2012 (UTC) and thanks for helping me editing that page
Hello TariButtar, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I deleted Chhand, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided. The speedy deletion criteria are extremely narrow and specific, and the process is more effective if the correct criterion is used. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. (✉→BWilkins←✎) 19:01, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

I Love A Piano
[edit]"I want it to be deleted because I don't want it to be recorded in the history of the page that this page was a redirect first and is later changed to it's now. Irving Berlin can be linked at the top using {{for}}. You're requested to notify me about this, in both cases if the deletion is done or rejected."
Why? WilyD 09:12, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
- Seconded. Assuming the album you want to write about meets the notability criteria, there's no reason you can't simply replace the text
#REDIRECT [[Irving Berlin]]
with your article. Why do you want to suppress the article history (which would be available to any administrator anyway)? Yunshui 雲水 10:33, 1 August 2012 (UTC)- I've declined the speedy deletion for two reasons: (1) As Yunshui said, anyone can replace a redirect with an article, so there's no technical reason to request deletion for that purpose. (2) As Yunshui also said, why would you want to get rid of the content? There's nothing shameful or otherwise problematic with a page's history showing that it was formerly a redirect. [edit]If this is not an option on the Punjabi version of "My Preferences", it's a software issue and can't be fixed by an admin as far as I know, you may need to contact whoever maintains the software for your version Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:16, 4 August 2012 (UTC
User names
[edit]The policy, at least on this wiki, is clear. Such names are usually associated with creating or editing articles associated with that name. I block indefinitely with {{spamusernameblock}} as the reason, and copy that template to the talk page. In the rare instances where the name is promotional, but the edits are not associated with the offending organisation or product, I block indefinitely but untick "allow account creation" and use {{softerblock}} as the reason. My recent blocks. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 09:36, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
- thanks for the info.. So, I should block according to, right? Thanks again for the providing such useful info. It may also help others pick better wiki username. Tari Buttar (talk) 11:58, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
How necessary the interwikis
[edit]There are two separate issues here
- As you suggest, you are under no obligation to add interwikis at all. If you chose to do so, that's up to you, and you can add whichever you want. Others will add links if they wish, and some may be completed by bots
- Removing interwikis is another issue altogether. There is no possible justification for removing an interwiki link unless it is linking to a wrong or non-existent article. Remember these things work both ways — I suspect that you wouldn't be happy if I remove Urdu interwiki links from the English Wikipedia on the grounds that they aren't important to me.

- Yes, there are some thing one mind can't thought so we need another mind (person). Thanks for making me think from that point of view. Tari Buttar (talk) 13:46, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
- The whole interwiki linking system is probably going to change within a few months thanks to the Wikidata project. Read more about it here: meta:Wikidata/Introduction. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 15:01, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
to change username
[edit]I want to change my user name on punjabi,Hindi,ENGLISH and west punjabi wikipedia.can u help me.plz don't redirect to any guideline article. CAN U HELP ME. Shemaroo (talk) 17:16, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, there is an option to do so, but let me consult with others if you can change a blocked username or not. Please wait and keep watching here. Meanwhile you can tell me the exact spellings of your new username that you want to change to. That 'll matter a lot in changing you username. Tari Buttar (talk) 01:36, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
- Tari, please unblock Shemaroo. I understand that it's a name of a company, but it's not so important to justify a block. In the English Wikipedia having such a name leads to a block, because the English Wikipedia is huge, such things happen many times a day, and there's little time for discussion. The Punjabi Wikipedia is different: It is very small and it's very important to discuss and explain such things before blocking. As long as the Punjabi Wikipedia is just beginning, you must not blocking accounts for anything except obvious vandalism. You should also write a clear and simple blocking policy for the Punjabi Wikipedia and not just reuse the English Wikipedia policy. Thank you for understanding. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 05:04, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
- You are being asked to do two different things
- Amir E. Aharoni is suggesting an unblock. Unless Punjabi Wikipedia allows promotional usernames, I don't think that can be justified. He may be right that there is more opportunity to discuss on a smaller wiki, but the discussion should be about the name change, not allowing spammy user names.
- Shemaroo is asking to be allowed to change his/her username to a non-promotional alternative. If the user is prepared to give an assurance that they will not edit articles related to Shemaroo, you could allow the change of name. If such an assurance is not forthcoming, I would assume that editor's only aim is to use Wikipedia for promotion.
- Incidentally, it seems like a good idea to have a home-grown blocking policy, but I don't think it can only be for vandalism. For user names, it's possible to block the name, but allow creation of a new account, for example if the original name is offensive, unsuitable (eg name of a Sikh guru) or takes the name of a famous person Jimfbleak - talk to me? 05:36, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
- I am suggesting to unblock, because Tari says that he wants to consult with others if it's possible to change a blocked username or not. It shouldn't be an issue. If the name is the only problem and Shemaroo didn't do any other damage, then his account on Punjabi Wikipedia must be unblocked and his username should be changed. Everything is very simple, actually.
- One important thing that everybody should understand is that the policy in the English Wikipedia applies only to the English Wikipedia and not to Wikipedias in other languages. English Wikipedia's policies are very often useful and well-written, but they must be applied to Wikipedias in other languages only when there is no local policy on the matter and always with proper consideration and explanation. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 06:10, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
- After reading this all twice, I think a change in the username will be satisfying for all.

- Amir, I understand; and thanks for your concern about Punjabi wiki. But I want to say one thing, "it's right that the wiki is orphan at the time but when it'll be larger in future, it'll be recorded in the history that the spamy usernames (today's, 2012's) were not strictly handled and are allowed." It may encourage others to do the same. But don't worry as the previous contributions 'll be attributed under the new username in edit histories, diffs etc.
- Jimfbleak, the user just have the spamy username, but didn't written anything spamy about the company, yet. So, under the light of comments by Amir and request of the user, we must give him/her a chance, so, please guide me if I, as an admin can change the username. If the user do anything spamy under the new username he/she 'll be blocked for good. Tari Buttar (talk) 07:08, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Shemaroo (talk)
- May be the experienced wikipedians of English wiki don't know about the company and they didn't take your username from this point of view. So, "SivenderSM" right? Tari Buttar (talk) 08:39, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
