Disclosure of employment

Hello Isobel Ashford. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, such as the edit you made to World Habitat, and that you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Please help me with...the queries/messages I am getting via the Talk function. are they legitimate? either way I don't understand them. The latter one today makes reference to payment - is this a scam? the page I have edited is for a charity so the organization doesn't receive income in relation to the content on the page - ie it's not related to paid advertising....is that what is being queried. please help ! thanks

Nobody will ever ask you to pay money for the privilege to edit Wikipedia. Although the Wikimedia Foundation does accept charitable donations, this website is free to use and edit. The message you received is not requesting payment from you and isn't a scam. What this message is saying is that it seems as though you're editing a topic where you might have a financial interest, for example you're writing about your employer or an organization that has hired you to write about it. Wikipedia's Terms of Service require that you disclose such a relationship if one exists. The template gives instructions for how to make a disclosure, or if you prefer you can just write here what your relationship is to the topic, and someone can populate the template for you. Thank you for this reply - that's really helpful. I had a look at the text and really didn't understand it. Your clarification on the reference to payment really helps. I can confirm that World Habitat is my Employer - I've had a look at the guidance on how to reference this but it didn't explain exactly how or where to do this. you seem to suggest that 'someone' can populate the template....is that someone from Wikipedia?
