A brownie for you!
For being pleasant and helpful at the WP:Help Desk, and for being humble enough to ask for help in the first place. I wish you good luck in your Wiki Voyage. Smooth sailing, Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 00:17, 3 November 2019 (UTC) |
- @CaptainEek: Thanks for the brownie! I try to be civil here on Wikipedia. If I'm not sure about something, I ask for help whenever I need it. That's what editors are here for. Interstellarity (talk) 00:52, 3 November 2019 (UTC)

New Page Review newsletter November 2019
Hello Interstellarity/Archives/2019,
This newsletter comes a little earlier than usual because the backlog is rising again and the holidays are coming very soon.
- Getting the queue to 0
There are now 803 holders of the New Page Reviewer flag! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog but it's still roughly less than 10% doing 90% of the work. Now it's time for action.
Exactly one year ago there were 'only' 3,650 unreviewed articles, now we will soon be approaching 7,000 despite the growing number of requests for the NPR user right. If each reviewer soon does only 2 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by every reviewer doing only 1 review every 2 days - that's only a few minutes work on the bus on the way to the office or to class! Let's get this over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.
Want to join? Consider adding the NPP Pledge userbox.
Our next newsletter will announce the winners of some really cool awards.
- Coordinator
Admin Barkeep49 has been officially invested as NPP/NPR coordinator by a unanimous consensus of the community. This is a complex role and he will need all the help he can get from other experienced reviewers.
- This month's refresher course
Paid editing is still causing headaches for even our most experienced reviewers: This official Wikipedia article will be an eye-opener to anyone who joined Wikipedia or obtained the NPR right since 2015. See The Hallmarks to know exactly what to look for and take time to examine all the sources.
- Tools
- It is now possible to select new pages by date range. This was requested by reviewers who want to patrol from the middle of the list.
- It is now also possible for accredited reviewers to put any article back into the New Pages Feed for re-review. The link is under 'Tools' in the side bar.
- Reviewer Feedback
Would you like feedback on your reviews? Are you an experienced reviewer who can give feedback to other reviewers? If so there are two new feedback pilot programs. New Reviewer mentorship will match newer reviewers with an experienced reviewer with a new reviewer. The other program will be an occasional peer review cohort for moderate or experienced reviewers to give feedback to each other. The first cohort will launch November 13.
- Second set of eyes
- Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work, especially while some routine tagging for deletion can still be carried out by non NPR holders and inexperienced users. Read about it at the Monitoring the system section in the tutorial. If you come across such editors doing good work, don't hesitate to encourage them to apply for NPR.
- Do be sure to have our talk page on your watchlist. There are often items that require reviewers' special attention, such as to watch out for pages by known socks or disruptive editors, technical issues and new developments, and of course to provide advice for other reviewers.
- Arbitration Committee
The annual ArbCom election will be coming up soon. All eligible users will be invited to vote. While not directly concerned with NPR, Arbcom cases often lead back to notability and deletion issues and/or actions by holders of advanced user rights.
- Community Wish list
There is to be no wish list for WMF encyclopedias this year. We thank Community Tech for their hard work addressing our long list of requirements which somewhat overwhelmed them last year, and we look forward to a successful completion.

- An RfC was closed with the consensus that the resysop criteria should be made stricter.
- The follow-up RfC to develop that change is now open at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/2019 Resysop Criteria (2).
- A related RfC is seeking the community's sentiment for a binding desysop procedure.
- Eligible editors may now nominate themselves as candidates for the 2019 Arbitration Committee Elections. The self-nomination period will close November 12, with voting running from November 19 through December 2.

Speedy deletion nomination of Handball at the 2019 South Asian Games
Hello Interstellarity,
Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Kingsif and it's nice to meet you :-)
I wanted to let you know that I have tagged an article that you started, Handball at the 2019 South Asian Games for deletion, because it is unnecessary and disambiguates only a single page.
If you feel that the page shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.
For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Kingsif}}
. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~
. Thanks!

- Victuallers, I made a statement on the nomination page that I withdraw the nomination. Interstellarity (talk) 18:11, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
Please don't nominate AfDs from NPP
Your last couple AfD nominations were done with Twinkle, of articles minutes to hours old, including a playwright who is listed in four other independent tertiary sources. Please don't nominate brand new articles unless you do a thorough search of notability and can be confident of the results. It's extremely WP:BITEy and almost never allows reflecting on the authentic notability criteria. In a perfect world everyone would do userspace drafts and there is plenty of borderline spam in NPP, but nominating brand new articles results in the kind of repetitional damage to Wikipedia advocates in other forums which can undo months of difficult editor recruiting work.
Thank you for your effort, though; there is no question your heart is in the right place. EllenCT (talk) 18:12, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
-- oops, I just saw you withdrew the nomination while I was writing that. THANK YOU! EllenCT (talk) 18:14, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Interstellarity: I don't like biting the newcomers. I just want what's best for Wikipedia. Interstellarity (talk) 18:16, 9 November 2019 (UTC)

My user page
At the first my user page didn't have any problems, but The Blade of Northern Lights deleted my writings and blocked me to see my previous editions. I asked him to change back my page, but he didn't agree my request. I want to ask you about changing back my page. یاسین بهجتیان اصفهانی (talk) 14:09, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
- یاسین بهجتیان اصفهانی, You could ask for the page to be restored at WP:REFUND, but I don't think your request would be granted. Your page was deleted because you attacked a user. This is not allowed. Please read our policy on personal attacks. If you repeatedly attack others, you may be blocked from editing. Interstellarity (talk) 14:16, 8 November 2019 (UTC)

Huggle
This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
When I warn users using Huggle while patrolling vandalism, it only works with Level 1 warnings. I would like it to work with higher level warnings such as level 2, 3, and 4. Can you figure out why this is happening. I checked other user's contributions, they seem to have it working. I also asked this at Wikipedia:Huggle/Feedback but I waited more than 24 hours, I got no response. Can you help me? Interstellarity (talk) 18:14, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
- Interstellarity, sorry, I don't use Huggle as I haven't requested rollback privileges, but I would just say 24 hours is a tad soon. Try and be patient and leave this help me tag up. You did the right thing asking for help. In the interim, just issue level 1 warnings. If you want to modify it to a level two or higher, you can manually go to their talk page, delete the substituted template, and add the applicable warning using Twinkle. Doug Mehus T·C 18:27, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
- Dmehus, In the meantime, I will patrol recent changes with Twinkle and hold off on using Huggle for a bit until the issue is resolved. Interstellarity (talk) 18:30, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
- Interstellarity, Sounds good. If you don't hear back by tomorrow, you could try the Live Help on IRC. Just make sure, if you do, replace this "Help me" tag with "Help-me-helped". Doug Mehus T·C 18:39, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
- Dmehus The help chat is not for this type of question, it's for assistance editing. Huggle and this question are specific technical questions. Praxidicae (talk) 20:17, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

- This is likely intended behavior. Warnings older than three days are ignored when determining the warning level of a user. If this answers your question, please link to my answer on any other page the same question has been asked. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:38, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

- @ToBeFree: I don't think that's correct. I notice it happens after a user was just warned with a Level 1 warning. Interstellarity (talk) 18:44, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

userboxen?
This is really not a big deal, but I looked at your page and one of your userboxes says that you've been on Wikipedia for 8 years, but the text under your username says that you have been in for 9 years. Does it need to be updated? Again, it's no big deal, just something I noticed. 😊 Puddleglum2.0 Have a talk? 02:18, 23 November 2019 (UTC)

Hi, why you put a7 tag on this article? He was an MLA. According to wP:NPOL, MLAs are notable.--S. M. Nazmus Shakib (talk) 19:10, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
- S. M. Nazmus Shakib, A7 means it does not claim a credible claim of significance. You are welcome to create your article through WP:AFC and work on it through there. Once you're done working on the article, submit it for review and reviewer will either accept or decline your submission. If it is accepted, your article will be moved to the encyclopedia. Otherwise, it will be declined and the reviewer will indicate why he or she declines it. Does this help? Interstellarity (talk) 19:13, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
- It is deleted. But, according to wP:NPOL MLAs are notable. I have put this issue on Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard. Proper references were given on that article. So, why does it fall under a7? He was an MLA. I think your a7 tag using in that article was inappropriate.--S. M. Nazmus Shakib (talk) 19:17, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
- S. M. Nazmus Shakib, I have replied at WP:AN. Interstellarity (talk) 19:20, 24 November 2019 (UTC)

I'm sure you saw this, and thought, oh no, not another bombing article. I wonder if we move this to WP:AfD because its deletion might be controversial, or at least bring out the Think of the children people over Thanksgiving weekend. What do you think? Bearian (talk) 23:57, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
- Bearian, It's up to you. I usually AfD an article if I'm choosing between AfD and PROD, but I thought deletion would not be controversial in this case. Interstellarity (talk) 00:37, 29 November 2019 (UTC)
- How could anyone think that a elementary school suicide bombing with a death toll of over 50 were run-of-the-mill - common, everyday & ordinary?! Even in the Middle East, it's far from being run-of-the-mill. What indications could there be it was so trivial/ordinary/insignificant an event that deletion of it would be uncontroversial? The death toll is higher than that of the 2016 Brussels bombing and close to that of 7/7. Like those bombings in Europe, it very easily meets the notability criteria. Jim Michael (talk) 04:19, 29 November 2019 (UTC)
- I've been known to BOLDLY redirect such articles (don't know as doing that is anything other than IAR). So perhaps a selective merge to some article on the Syrian conflict and redirect would be appropriate. Along with appropriate counseling for the creator of course. I'd just go for it, but I do my best to ignore such events so far from home. Wouldn't know where to put it. If this weren't a part of a war, I'd say the death toll alone would make it notable. But, alas, we do not record every action of a war. Is there an "atrocity" article connected to this conflict? John from Idegon (talk) 01:24, 29 November 2019 (UTC)
