Talkback

[edit]
Hello, KBL2010. You have new messages at Wikipedia:Help desk.
Message added 06:45, 26 October 2010 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block.

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Decline reason:

It appears that your intention is still to promote your organisation. In addition, an account is for an individual, and may not represent a group or organisation, no matter what the user name. — JamesBWatson (talk) 11:19, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unblocked

[edit]

After consulting with JamesBWatson (talk · contribs), I have unblocked this account. Please file a request at WP:CHU as soon as possible. There are two points I would like to make:

  • Wikipedia accounts must be for individuals only, who are personally responsible for them. You have used the word "we" a number of times in your posts: please understand, and acknowledge below, that your renamed account will be used only by a single person, and that if any colleagues wish to edit they must set up their own accounts.
  • WP:Conflict of interest is a serious concern for Wikipedia, which is not to be used for promotion of any kind, even for good causes. So far as I can tell, you have behaved well in this respect, but please read carefully and continue to follow the advice in Wikipedia:Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest.

I have made your modified draft article live at Integrity Watch Afghanistan. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 12:54, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your question from my talk page

[edit]

I apologise for having been so long replying to your question on my talk page. One reason for delay is that I am in doubt how to advise you. Certainly you should not yourself re-add the deleted sections, but should seek the agreement of other editors. I have myself some doubts about whether they are appropriate: it seems rather using Wikipedia as a notice-board, and as an encyclopedia it is not our role to "to increase people's awareness about the methodology... "

I see on the article talk page that two "Wikiprojects" - groups of editors who share a particular interest - have expressed interest in your article. What I suggest you do is post messages on their talk pages, that is to say on

to introduce yourself, say that you have been unblocked on condition of operating within the bounds of WP:BESTCOI, and ask their advice. You can refer them to the version of your article of 08:31, 17 October 2010, which they can see in the history, to look at the deleted material.
