Thank you for the comment here and on the GASB page; an outside perspective is very helpful for an article like this! I will rework that intro paragraph to properly introduce GASB. I think you make a good point - explaining the standard-setting body would be a better introduction rather than jumping into the weeds of GASB 96 straight away.
