Waterboarding page & torture

[edit]

In regards to your comments on the talk page opposing unprotection, you might want to read what I just posted. As there is not one single source saying that waterboarding isn't torture, I threw down a polite policy gauntlet. I really do think its fine to downgrade to semi-protection. If anyone tries to edit war in unsupported views that are incompatible with Wikipedia policies, they'll be up against a WP:3RR wall pretty fast I think when everyone and their cousin reverts them out. See my reply in the oppose. Thx for all the work Inertia Tensor 23:03, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lawrence for admin

[edit]

I saw your comment. I agree that Lawrence has shown himself to be an excellent editor that helps to resolve difficult problems (as shown on the waterboarding article). I would fully support his nomination to Admin.Remember (talk) 20:43, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Horrible job, ball and chain, but he's welcome to it, we need people like that! Inertia Tensor 20:46, 7 December 2007 (UTC)\[reply]
Idea.. We could push it NOW, as it will also have the tangible benefit of having a large number of admins going over Waterboarding. Right now - for ages, Chaser has been babysitting the fighting. Inertia Tensor 20:47, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I definitely like the idea if it actually gets more high quality editors to participate in resolving the waterboarding issue. Remember (talk) 20:51, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed this when I came to post a question for IT. I'm completely flattered, thank you... Lawrence Cohen 00:34, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You have gathered a lot of admirers with your work on WB, especially as you were an active participant. You have also grown and learnt tremendously as an editor since this conflict began. You are also showing admin restraint, which is an entirely different skill and job than as an editor. WIki needs admins who can step back from teh breech on a subject they themselves are opinionated about. There's precious few of them. Stand - off admins are two a penny. Archiving on talk:waterboarding

[edit]

I'm trying to clean up the page, since we have active sections mixed into wide swathes of inactive ones. You weren't happy the last time I tried to archive this section. It sort of seems to have sputtered out. Would you object if I kicked it over to the new archive 4 page? I want to try to get it down to just the main sections there is still a need to completely get consensus on. Lawrence Cohen 00:34, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, you are playing a blinder - let rip. See my latest vote on Ka-Ping Yee's version and comments lower. Thanks for asking!!!! Inertia Tensor (talk) 11:37, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstars for all

The Barnstar of Peace
For your work in helping to promote discussion and consensus related to the waterboarding article in a construction manner, I award you this Barnstar of peace. Thanks for all of your hard work. Remember (talk) 20:36, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This Arbitration case has closed, and the final decision may be reviewed through the above link. Further to the relevant findings of fact, Waterboarding and all closely-related pages are subject to article probation (full remedy); editors working on Waterboarding, or closely related pages, may be subject to an editing restriction at the discretion of any uninvolved administrator, whereby any edits by that editor which are judged by an administrator to be uncivil, personal attacks, or assumptions of bad faith, may result in a block. (full remedy).

Should any user subject to an editing restriction in this case violate that restriction, that user may be briefly blocked, up to a week in the event of repeated violations. After 5 blocks, the maximum block length shall increase to one year (full enforcement). Before such restrictions are enacted on an editor, he or she must be issued with a warning containing a link to the decision.
