I forgot where I read it earlier today, but somewher on a million links I jave clicked it said usernames that imply groups or sharing are not allowed. Would a username like User:Hope for joy children centre bugiri Uganda comply with that policy or does it run afoul? Thanks. IndusFish (talk) 23:45, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
- That username is a bit promotional, and is not allowed. Nigos (talk • Contribs) 23:52, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
- Hello IndusFish, welcome to Wikipedia! Usernames on the English Wikipedia must follow the WP:Username policy. The policy prohibits, among other things, usernames that imply shared use. That username is a violation of the username policy and has been reported at the WP:usernames for administrator attention noticeboard. An administrator will block the account until it is renamed. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 23:53, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

Can someone help me understand why my first article submission for Draft:71st_Rice_Bowl was declined when there is an article for the 70th Rice Bowl. My article seems just as notable the Rice Bowl form previous years and unlike the 70th Rice Bowl I had a reference in there too. Please help me understand why was 70th Rice Bowl notable and the Draft:71st_Rice_Bowl is not notable. IS just becuase of incomplete info, because I don't understand who WP:ONEEVENT or WP:RS have anything to do with declining. IndusFish (talk) 15:34, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
- The short answer is WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. The various articles on individual instalments of the Rice Bowl are all very badly sourced and likely should all be merged into the main Rice Bowl article. There is no indication that any of them has received more than routine sports coverage, the kind of coverage that explicitly does not help establish a topic's notability. In fact, I'll merge the others to the parent article right now. Huon (talk) 15:50, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
- I guess I will stop working on it and find me something else to do. This wikipedia stuff is harder and more confusing that I thought. I guess case law may work in courts, but not on wikipedia.IndusFish (talk) 15:57, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
- Ah but you haven't cited any case . 70th Rice Bowl is not a case - it's more like a criminal that hasn't been caught yet ;) If the article you mentioned had gone through AfC then it would have been declined too; give it due process and it may well get deleted.
- Wikipedia has - gosh I don't know, I believe it's millions of articles now. Some of them go under the radar.
- You're right about one thing - there's a lot of policies and guidelines. It can be frustrating (I shudder to think at some of the annoyances I have run into), but without them the place would be awash (more than it is already) with spam, libel, conspiracy theories, lies, copyright violations, etc etc. Not that your work falls into of those categories, of course.
- Anyway, welcome to Wikipedia. I hope you're not discouraged and will stick around. --kingboyk (talk) 17:01, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you explaining it to me. I guess you are right, there was no "trial" and hence no case law. I do plan to stick around I am reading as much as I can and experimenting with stuff so I expose myself to different things. So far people have been helpful. Deleting pages
[edit]This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
I made 2 pages Draft:71st_Rice_Bowl and Draft:72nd_Rice_Bowl how do I delete them? IndusFish (talk) 16:28, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
- If you wish to delete a page you have written, you should place {{db-user}} at the top of the page; this will mark it for speedy deletion. Since I'm responding to this request, though, I'll delete them for you. If you change your mind and want them back, you can request a "refund" (see WP:REFUND). Primefac (talk) 16:45, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for your help. Wow, so much stuff to learn. IndusFish (talk) 16:50, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
