helpme
[edit]I want to upload a copyright chapter from a text book. The author and publisher are granting permission to use the media. I am reading and reading and getting sent hither and yon trying to understand how to do this.
I understand I need an email permission from the copyright holders. A license is required. But reading the page on licenses and multilicenses is confusing if not downright contradictory. I spent lengthy time on IRC twice and got no response.
Can you explain more about multilicensing. You can have a license with restrictions, but the restrictions can't apply to wikipedia? Oi vey.
- Hi! See [1] for more details. :) -- Stwalkerster talk 21:10, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
RE: need assistance understanding licenses
[edit]Hello, Imageryguides!
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by your question, though I'm assuming you're talking about Wikipedia text. All text on Wikipedia must be freely licenced (not copyrighted), and is currently assigned to the GNU Free Documentation Licence. If you are using text from another source, to be included in Wikipedia, it must be under that licence or one which is compatible. Otherwise you must state your sources which you have used, and it is usually just brief quotations.
If you are uncertain about including written sources into a Wikipedia article, please read WP:CITE, which discusses referencing all sources used on Wikipedia articles. Looking at your question, perhaps you should still reference the author, though then again, I'm not sure of the circumstances.
You could take a look at the following articles if you have time, which may clear up a few questions for you:
Sorry about the delay. If you wish to give more information to your enquiry, please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page.

If you choose to accept my offer, replace the {{Adoptme}} template on your user page with the template {{adoptee|Danielrocks123}} and contact me on my talk page. Have a good day. --דניאל - Danielrocks123 15:40, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
