[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Military leadership in the Afghan Civil War has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove unwanted links and spam from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Democratic Republic of Afghanistan (1978-1992)
[edit]Unfortunately, my knowledge of the DRA is limited to the military history of the Soviet Union's occupation of Afghanistan. I know very little about Afghan politics of the 1978 through 1992 period.
It is interesting to note that the communists did not come to power in Afghanistan in 1978 as a result of Soviet assistance, or as a result of a Soviet coup. Rather, the Afghan communists engineered a coup on their own, and the next day announced their success to the Soviet ambassador in Kabul. The Soviets were surprised at the development, as they regarded Afghan communist party as a fringe organization that was incapable of making any kind of serious impact on Afghan politics. Once the communists were in power, however, the Soviets assisted them.
This article, by the late Hampshire College professor Eqbal Ahmed, includes an excellent discussion of the odd circumstances surrounding the birth of the DRA in 1978: http://www.bitsonline.net/eqbal/articles_by_eqbal_view2.asp
Noteworthy, too, is that the Soviets were not fighting in Afghanistan in the 1980s to impose communism on the country. They realized that this goal was politically, socially, economically and militarily unfeasible. Most likely the Soviets were fighting to create circumstances that would allow the DRA to coexist in Afghanistan with the many other power groups, such as the mujahideen, that controlled the country.
Good luck with your research! Kenmore (talk) 02:09, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

RE:Coat of arms
[edit]Just take a normal picture's URL and change the name. For example, take this File:Coat Arms of Democratic Republic Afghanistan (1978).png, and then change the name to File:CoatArmsDRAfghanistan.png and it will automatically ask you to upload the file when you click it. That's my sneaky way of doing it, at least. --♥pashtun ismailiyya 22:45, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

The article List of rulers of Afghanistan has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Seems to be just a list of links to another list article, List of heads of state of Afghanistan.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ― Tartan357 Talk 22:41, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
