SIUe

[edit]

Maybe you think that the SIUe with the lower case e is "cutesy", but the fact of the matter is that use of the lower case "e" has been University policy since 2005, as is explained in the section of the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville page entitled, 'The "e".' Among other things your changing it did, was that you eliminated links to any article with SIUe in the title. But you apparently did not bother to preview your work, did you? — Preceding unsigned comment added by GWFrog (talkcontribs) 00:04, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, thank you for your condescending tone. I'm not sure what experience you have with the university, but I worked for two years in the web & marketing department of the SIUE Student Fitness Center. This document along with several other pages seem to make it pretty clear that the lowercase "e" is only for use in the stylized word mark. At no point in SIUE's web presence does it stylize itself as "SIUe". As for previewing my work (which I always do), I only see one link that was broken, which was The Gardens at SIUe. I just thought someone had redlinked it with the intention of writing an article later. The rest of the articles start with SIUE. Also, please be sure to sign your talk page posts with four tildes ~~~~. In the future, you may want to revisit the policy of WikiLove. I've been around here a long time and I've steadily seen the number of active contributors decline due to arguments with other Wikipedians. Please don't be so quick in the future to flame fellow Wikipedians. Have a great day. Illinois2011 (talk) 01:02, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In addition, I have reverted the article back (with the broken link fixed) and made a comment on the talk page for the article. If you would like, we could discuss this further there so others can see. If this turns into a revert war, I'm going to have to notify an administrator and seek their advice. The article needs a lot of work. Let's not waste time on something so petty. Illinois2011 (talk) 01:17, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I thought I had done so, but it looks like I didn't, and now almost a month has passed, so I apologize greatly for not previously thanking you for the Barnstar.GWFrog (talk) 20:16, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

more SIUe

[edit]

Thanx for the thanx for the work on the various SIUe sites. I have been trying to work with University staff to make sure that what I do reflects accurately on the school, especially on the two pages that I have done the most on, SIU Edwardsville Cougars and The Gardens at SIUe.

Like you, I also worked at SIUe. At two different times, I was a counselor in the Office of Veterans Affairs; in 1973-74 under the office of Dean of Students Warren Brown, and in 1977-78 under the office of President Kenneth Shaw.

Additionally, I entered SIUe as a student in January, 1969 and attended intermittently until 1991, when I moved away from the Metro East for the last time. I still need 3 classes for my degree, due in part to Ken Shaw's decree that full-time staff were forbidden to also be students, but ultimately because my GI Bill and Illinois Veterans Grant ran out with one quarter still to go, and I couldn't swing it financially to finish, took a job out of the area,m and have not been back even to visit.

As to the SIUE/SIUe thing, I was going by Chancellor Vandegrift's statements; he seems to be pretty fixed on really emphasizing the "e" brand thing, and I was following his lead.

Despite being stuck in Janesville, Wisconsin, I am still "Cougar" through and through; as I write this, I am wearing a red SIUe Cougars sweatshirt and a black cap with a big red "e" on the front.

Michael/GWFrog — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.158.2.66 (talk) 17:47, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I don't really have any doubt that Chancellor Vandegrift likes the "e" to be lowercase. I just don't think the University uses it except for in that one logo. If nothing else, he's certainly created a lot of confusion because it seems that every other person does it differently. As four the four tildes ~~~~, you just put them at the end of what you type on talk pages. You don't have to put them in edit summaries. Have a nice day! Illinois2011 (talk) 22:15, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and the Chancellor is leaving soon anyway! Illinois2011 (talk) 22:19, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

SIUE navbox

Do you think the Schools of Dental Medicine and Pharmacy should be listed as "Undergraduate"??? Both offer only doctoral degrees, and both prefer that entrants already possess a bachelors degree, even though it is not required. Can they be set up as "Professional" or somesuch other listing??? GWFrog (talk) 21:48, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, those probably need to be moved. I'll take a look when I get home tonight. Illinois2011 (talk) 22:08, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think that works much better. Looks more professional. :) GWFrog (talk) 20:27, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
