The article Syncope (software) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Notability has not been established - see WP:N
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Sitush (talk) 09:44, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
Nomination of Syncope (software) for deletion
[edit]A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Syncope (software) is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Syncope (software) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Sitush (talk) 09:54, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Can you please help me in trying to solve this issue without risking to make the situation even worse, like as I've just did? Thanks for your help.
- Hi, you beat me to it - I was just about to add a note here. All articles on Wikipedia need to be about subjects which are notable. In order to prove notability it is necessary that the statements contained in the article are verifiable using reliable sources. Those sources should usually be independent of the article's subject and more than just an ephemeral "mention" (so, not written by the subject, or a press release, not a review etc). I am not great on software-related articles but this particular one clearly needs some work.
- Do not panic about the deletion discussion. You are welcome to contribute to it but, even more important, you have a few days to try to assert the notability. The opening of a discussion does not reflect badly on you or the subject, and one consequence of such discussions is that quite often they lead to other people weighing in to help "rescue" the article. In other words, it can be a positive rather than a negative step.
- I am happy to assist with any queries which you may have. Just leave a note here on your page & I will spot it. - Sitush (talk) 10:23, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for your response: I've taken OpenAM as reference for updating Syncope, since it is a piece of software of the same area. Do you have any practical advice about how I can improve the notability and verifiability of this page? Ilgrosso (talk) 10:31, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- You could try doing some Googling for news stories about it. As long as they're reliable sources then they should be ok. There may also be content out there that isn't in a news format, eg: announcements from third parties that they are using the software in some significant development of their own (I think that I am right in saying that this software is a building-block type of thing?) I would suggest that you try to avoid blogs as sources because they can be a bit tricky - reliable sources explains what is/isn't acceptable but, like many policies and guidelines, a little common sense goes a long way.
- Have a go at finding something and if necessary just dump your results into the article. I could then demonstrate to you how these "citations" should be formatted etc, which is not quite a important an issue as the notability one. - Sitush (talk) 10:39, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
I have put three external links talking about Syncope in the "See Also" section. Ilgrosso (talk) 11:30, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, and I am afraid that I have removed them. The See also section is intended for links to other Wikipedia articles, not to external sites. I will take a look at the removed links & see if they can be used as inline citations, as appear in the References section of OpenAM. I have also removed some entries that you had in the External links section, since they were to subpages of the main website already linked to. The guidelines at WP:ELNO give the full reasoning but, in essence, if we started allowing links to every subpage on an external website then we could ultimately end up hosting a site map of that website, which is silly. Hope this makes sense but yell if it does not. You will get the hang of all of this, I promise, and your contributions to the project are welcomed even if it might sometimes appear otherwise! - Sitush (talk) 12:31, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- The links that you put in See Also were not of use, I am afraid. I reviewed them and they were pretty much just user documentation, hosted on two alternate sites to those mentioned in External Links. This is ephemeral coverage: we would expect any software package to have user documentation. What is needed is information such as that listed in the References section at OpenAM. Preferably, something better than those references, but they would do as a minimum. - Sitush (talk) 12:37, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- I have now done this Google search, trying to omit the medical use of the syncope term etc. Frankly, it is not looking good. However, if you are prepared to plough through the results and find something that is more than a review, a basic announcement, a list of software features, a download site etc then you may strike gold. - Sitush (talk) 12:51, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
Syncope is a rising Open Source project, and nothing but technical stuff has been written so far about it. Probably in the near future there will be some technical reviews like the one linked by OpenAM, but not at the moment, I am afraid. I guess that this would imply that the page will be removed soon from Wikipedia, unfortunately. Thanks anyway for your support. Ilgrosso (talk) 14:05, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- Ok. Maybe try again when it is more established. - Sitush (talk) 14:14, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
