Request on 18:38:04, 7 May 2022 for assistance on AfC submission by Billmilkowski
I understand that my draft on my colleague Gene Santoro was rejected for copyright infringement because it contained passages that I in fact wrote for Gene's obit for the Jazz Journalists Association Newsletter (https://news.jazzjournalists.org/2022/05/music-writer-gene-santoro-rip/?fbclid=IwAR0k-M6ogTphOc-aZNksSiR2JXuJrlfT0-zw4gWnBOqXdJKEm3q2MEdciwc). Gene's widow, Tesse Santoro, reached out to me saying that she really wanted Gene to have a WIKI page to acknowledge his life's work. It's something he never pursued during his lifetime (he died on Apr. 27 after a long bout of esophogial cancer). Naturally, I wanted to fulfill her request and turned this WIKI draft around very quickly, borrowing liberally from the very same piece that I had written for JJA News.
I see three possible solutions here:
1) I get the president of the Jazz Journalists Association to release this obit into the public domain, which would resolve the issue: "Wikipedia cannot accept material copied from elsewhere, unless it explicitly and verifiably has been released to the world under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license or into the public domain."
2) I rewrite the draft using clear attribution (JJA News) by the offending passages.
3) I completely rewrite the piece without referring to the JJA obit.
Again, I dashed this off quickly at the behest of Gene's widow. She (and I) would very much like to see his great journalistic accomplishments acknowledged for all time in WIKI. I am more than willing to reconfigure this piece. Please advise.
Thank you,
Bill Milkowski

- Hi Billmilkowski, sorry for the late reply, I thought I replied this. A major factor about writing an article on Wikipedia is Wikipedia:Notability and also wikipedia:Verifiability. Is the person notable enough? Then you should also consider wikipedia:Neutral point of view and wikipedia:Conflict of interest. After going through those links above, I'm sure you'll be able to get your answers. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 09:59, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

Request for re-reviewing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:LH_Research
Thanks again for welcoming me on 16 April 2022. As you might already know I created an article about a defunct Californian hardware manufacturer: Draft:LH_Research. It has been declined on 26 April 2022 by User:DoubleGrazing because of Notability per WP:GNG. Since then I massively improved upon this article as of course rightfully suggested by the reviewer. Since DoubleGrazing stated that he usually does not do re-reviews, I am turning to you with a request for a review. Geoman3 (talk) 11:34, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Geoman3: Thanks for your message here, but I think I'll let somebody else review it. I have issues with the sourcing, a lot of sources added that makes it seems like you want to get the article through by all means. Well let's leave it for someone else. New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022
Hello Idoghor Melody,
At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.
Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.
In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 804 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 853 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.
This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.
If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

- @Reading Beans: Well, I don't know if the website is a public domain since its a Nigerian federal ministry website. If na US now, e for be public domain. If that site is not a Pubic domain, you'll have to get their written perm before you can use. You can get clarification from the wikipedia:Teahouse or commons. I've uploaded only Photos i took by myself on commons and Fair Use photos on en.wiki. I had a lot of copyright issues on commons before understanding how things works here. Help
Hi Sir/Ma, Please i'm reaching out to you to ask if you could please help me? I joined Wikipedia 8 months ago but due to my careless editing and misusing Wikipedia as a web host my former user page was blocked from editing and was deleted so i had to open this again because i love Wikipedia. Could you please guide me on here because i'm ready to learn more and watch me contribute as much as i can. Your feedback will so much be appreciated Sir/Ma, thank you so much for reading.Gelchi (talk) 12:00, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Gelchi First of all I'm no special person that deserves to be addressed as sir. I'm an editor like you and we're all equal. With that said, thank you for dropping a message here but honestly speaking I don't know how to really help because since your first account was blocked, creating and editing with this account is block evasion. What you should have done is to appeal the block from that account and seeing how genuine you are, an admin might review and unblock you. So o, you've created this account now and I don't really know how to settle that part. You can provide the username of the previous account so i can post in a notice board or to an admin(probably the blocking admin) to hear what they'll say or suggest. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 12:18, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you so much, i really appreciate your support. Gelchi (talk) 13:26, 29 May 2022 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for not taking the more experienced user's side for the WP:BIRTHDAYS incident. It's quite outrageous how this is happening on Wikipedia and then people start to attack Wikipedians just because they joined Wikipedia a few months ago or something and they're not familiar with the MOS. Thanks for being a great Wikipedian! Regards, Dinosaur TrexXX33 (chat?) 12:41, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- @DinosaurTrexXX33: Hey, thanks for your message here. It was so disheartening to see the many reverts. I didn't know something like that was happening until that admin pinged me in their reply and I replied. The part that annoyed me was that it wasn't even their talk page, and they're reverting anyhow. Well, what happened has happened and when I dropped a message for the user yesterday, I explained to them that if they're not happy they're receiving such messages, they should remove their name, and they did. So it's all good. You don't have to leave Wikipedia because of stuffs like this, they happens... I hope you enjoy your stay here and continue editing. Dear Idoghor Melody, thank you for taking the time to review the draft for Decatur Tribune. You appear to be a prolific editor and must be very busy. I am proposing a Wikipedia article for the Decatur Tribune because it is a small town newspaper. Small town and rural newspapers play an important role in the health and vitality of their communities. 2/3 of the residents of rural communities prefer their printed newspaper rather than a digital format. Small town newspapers fill the gaps in local and social news that do not appear in larger regional newspapers. You have declined the article citing deficiencies in source material. I am submitting to you the following list of small town newspapers who have a Wikipedia article with no more comprehensive material or sources than those that I have included with my draft:
- New Telegraph
- Urhobo Vanguard
- Osun Defender
- Nigerian Daily Sketch
- Nigeria CommunicationsWeek
- Kingman Standard
- Granville Sentinel
- Peninsula Gateway
- Franklin Banner-Tribune
- Cashmere Valley Record
- The Nashua Broadcaster
- Statesman-Examiner
- Montgomery County Chronicle
- The Altamont Enterprise
- Black Chronicle
- The Daily Territorial
- The Star (Tinley Park)
This is a representative sample of pages similar to the one that I have proposed for the Decatur Tribune. I have confidence that after reviewing these other pages you will accept the Draft:Decatur Tribune for inclusion in Wikipedia. Thank you for your further consideration and time. BuffaloBob (talk) 21:17, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @BuffaloBob: Thanks for your message here. It isn't a good thing or a good idea to compare article A with article B. That article A has only one source does not mean article c should have two or one source. With that said, I acted on my own judgement of notability and you can resubmit for another reviewer to take a look. Thanks for coming here, you can ask more questions if you have any. New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022
Hello Idoghor Melody,
- Backlog status
At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.
Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]
In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).
While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).
- Backlog drive
A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.
- TIP – New school articles
Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.
- Misc
There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}
, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:
Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 11887 articles, as of 04:00, 10 November 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot
There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.
- Reminders
- Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
- If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing
{{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page. - If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

Question from Owenbreitbarth (14:02, 12 June 2022)
Hi Melody :)
Is there a way to change my username after it’s created? I think I would like OwenBreitbarth better. In camel case. --Owenbreitbarth (talk) 14:02, 12 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Owenbreitbarth: Hi and welcome to Wikipedia. Yes you can change your username. Usernames can be changed by global renamers and requests can be made at Wikipedia:Changing username. I hope this helps. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 17:43, 12 June 2022 (UTC)
Hi – and, yay! I’m not sure about the exact format yet… spaces seem to be allowed, too. Right? Owenbreitbarth (talk) 06:54, 14 June 2022 (UTC)

Request on 08:07:32, 16 June 2022 for assistance on AfC submission by MardiGrasCantab
Hi - please could you explain in some more detail why the article I wrote has not met Wikipedia's guidelines? My article was about a British firm that has been continuously in operation since 1909, and has played an important historical role in the aerospace and motor industries in the UK. It is one of very few family-owned firms left of this size and age. I would have thought this qualified as notable?
All the sources I referenced were also external sources - so meet the criteria of being independent.
Please could you provide further explanation?
MardiGrasCantab (talk) 08:07, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
- @MardiGrasCantab: Hi, thanks for dropping a message here. I did my review and a message was sent to your talk page too. Instead of questioning why I didn't accept, you should maybe resubmit and someone else will take a look at it. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 11:14, 16 June 2022 (UTC)

Recent changes
- The Wikipedia App for Android now has an option for editing the whole page at once, located in the overflow menu (three-dots menu ). [20]
- Some recent database changes may affect queries using the Quarry tool. Queries for
site_stats
at English Wikipedia, Commons, and Wikidata will need to be updated. Read more. - A new
user_global_editcount
variable can be used in abuse filters to avoid affecting globally active users. [21]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 21 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 22 June. It will be on all wikis from 23 June (calendar).
- Users of non-responsive skins (e.g. MonoBook or Vector) on mobile devices may notice a slight change in the default zoom level. This is intended to optimize zooming and ensure all interface elements are present on the page (for example the table of contents on Vector 2022). In the unlikely event this causes any problems with how you use the site, we'd love to understand better, please ping Jon (WMF) to any on-wiki conversations. [22]
Future changes
- The Beta Feature for DiscussionTools will be updated throughout July. Discussions will look different. You can see some of the proposed changes.
- Parsoid's HTML output will soon stop annotating file links with different
typeof
attribute values, and instead usemw:File
for all types. Tool authors should adjust any code that expects:mw:Image
,mw:Audio
, ormw:Video
. [23]

My Article
Hello. I'm just a bit confused. Why did you mark my article I created under a speedy deletion notice? I think this is totally unfair. I'm trying to improve Wikipedia, and then I see this. I think the article is actually fine in its current state, and I can even add an infobox if you want. And by the way, the article is about a Can-Am sports prototype race car. It's NOT promoting or publicizing anything. Can you please kindly remove the tag, the page can be improved. Also, I think you've wrongly marked it. It DOESN'T fit any of those categories listed for a speedy deletion criteria. Hope you understand. Thanks, Davism0703 (talk) 11:07, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
- Also, it's NOT promoting anything by the way. It's INFORMING people about a race car, because people WANT information. There's a big difference. Davism0703 (talk) 11:09, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Davism0703: Hi, You can contest the speedy on the talk page of the article where it can be seen and considered. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 11:12, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Davism0703: It's deleted already. The article looks promotional and not something written from a neutral point of view. You can create again and avoid using words or expanding on its numerous features. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 11:14, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks. Can you possibly undo the deletion so I could reword it? Davism0703 (talk) 11:27, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Davism0703: I'm not an administrator, so I can't undo. BTW, the article was short, you should rewrite it without the deleted one. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 12:33, 21 June 2022 (UTC)

little shambles
Hi, I was just adding links to my new article, but since you added the category of "orphan", its prevented me from adding those links? Please could you help add to the page instead of making things harder for me? If you can think of any categories or links, please feel free to add them instead of making it impossible for me to add links. Ive already added 2 new links to the page but ive only just published it so you have to give me a chance. Please dont make editing wikipedia harder for people like me who are not experienced editors. Thank you so much sir how can I thank you? I will get to learn a lot from you Thank you so much again. Rockybhai3 (talk) 08:37, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
Dear Sir, Can I create pages for all the musicians we've added to this list. Rockybhai3 (talk) 09:15, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Rockybhai3:First of all, I'm not sir. My name is Melody and I'm an editor like you. You can create those pages only if they're notable, that is, if they meet general notable guidelines or the various Wikipedia:SNG. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 09:22, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
Dear, You are much older than me. You have more knowledge than me so I have to tell you sir. My question (If there are two musicians with the same name. Can two pages be made with the same name?) Rockybhai3 (talk) 09:40, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Rockybhai3:I don't know about age, but here, everyone is the same. With that said, no two articles can have the same title, it is sometimes necessary to add distinguishing information, often in the form of a description in parentheses after the name. For instance "Melody" and "Melody (singer)" or "Rockybhai" and "Rockybhai (actor)". An example is Aditi Sharma (actress, born 1996) and Aditi Sharma (actress, born 1983) while the main Aditi Sharma is a disambiguation page. I hope this helps. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 10:19, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
Dear, You have guided me so well that I understood. I saw that there is a musician by this name and a journalist Anshuman Tiwari, Can you write (journalist) behind their name in brackets? Rockybhai3 (talk) 10:41, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Rockybhai3: If you're creating an article about a musician named Anshuman Tiwari, it should be "Anshuman Tiwari (musician) since there is Anshuman Tiwari. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 11:00, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
Thank you so much dear, But I also want to learn from you how the bracket is applied? If you put brackets in the journalist, it will look great and everyone will know. This is journalist. Like: [[Anshuman Tiwari (journalist) Rockybhai3 (talk) 11:11, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- Rockybhai3, the journalist is ok as it is. No need for a name change. To change the name will be considered controversial and may require a discussion where a consensus will be reached. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 11:14, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
Can't we even redirect? You are explaining me so well thank you so much again. Rockybhai3 (talk) 11:23, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Rockybhai3: A redirect from where to where? Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 11:53, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
Anshuman Tiwari To Anshuman Tiwari (journalist) Rockybhai3 (talk) 11:56, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Rockybhai3:But I just told you there are no problems with that article name, it needs no remaining or redirecting. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 11:59, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
Ok dear, i make musician page. After that I'll tell you. Rockybhai3 (talk) 12:02, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

Autopatrolled granted
Hi Idoghor Melody, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed' and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned prolific creators of articles where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.
Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.
Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Schwede66 20:27, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Schwede66:Thank you... Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 13:01, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 26 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 27 July. It will be on all wikis from 28 July (calendar).
- The external link icon will change slightly in the skins Vector legacy and Vector 2022. The new icon uses simpler shapes to be more recognizable on low-fidelity screens. [34]
- Administrators will now see buttons on user pages for "Change block" and "Unblock user" instead of just "Block user" if the user is already blocked. [35]
Future meetings
- The next open meeting with the Web team about Vector (2022) will take place tomorrow (26 July).
