Stina (village) moved to draftspace

Thanks for your contributions to Stina (village). Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it has no sources. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. dxneo (talk) 00:17, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello, dear @Dxneo, I'm very sorry, but I'm the beginner in Wikipedia and can't use all the instruments yet. Is it possible that you explain to me how to insert the reference? I have another article on Stina that I copied from the Ukrainian version and there are links to references, but that article is separate/old and was created at the stage when I didn't know how to publish the articles at all. So I'm learning still.
I hope for the kind support of the community of Wikipedia to guide me not to be disappointed because for now it seems very difficult.
Thanks! Iaroslav Gerashchenko (talk) 10:16, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
Hello Iaroslav Gerashchenko, please see WP:CITE or Help:Referencing for beginners for a simplified version Thank you. dxneo (talk) 10:25, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for your fast response. and for your link. As I understood I need to make all the references anew?
I have this question: what if I have the list of references - you see them below 11 of them. And I simply need to insert links to them in the text? So simply I need to put where I know the numbers in brackets and that they lead below. Is it possible? Iaroslav Gerashchenko (talk) 10:33, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
So, I have just published that first article. The main reason is that it had already a completed reference list with workable links into the text (like in quadrat brackets). I don't know how to do the same once again, my head simply bursts from the complexity. Because for example in the video in the article you sent me the lady inserts the links into the reference list through "Edit Source" button. And I even dont have such a button. Only "Edit". It's just one of the examples... Iaroslav Gerashchenko (talk) 10:49, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
Okay for an example let's say:

Place the reference at the end of every sentence if possible.

You may copy and paste this and insert your own details:

<ref>{{Cite web
 |last=
 |first=
 |date=
 |year=
 |title=
 |access-date=
 |website=
 |language=
 |archive-date=
 |archive-url= }}</ref>

Iaroslav Gerashchenko, I hope this is helpful since it took me some time to lay it out. If you don't have the |archive-url= and |archive-date= please leave them blank. And below is how the (full) reference is supposed to look like Thank you. dxneo (talk) 11:00, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

First of all, thank you for your help.
Second is that I need to admit I still struggle because I think Im not an IT-specialist and this thing looks like some code. I'm simply an enthusiast, amateur historian of our region and want to write an article about this great village on Wikipedia. For now what I dont get is how this reference block is being composed and how cross-linkage works between the numbers in the brackets and the actual reference entry in the bottom.
And in the first article it was transferred from the Ukrainian version intact and works correctly. But I can't add a new position, though I really want to. Because there are patches of text that need to be referenced to this source. Iaroslav Gerashchenko (talk) 18:20, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
Hey, hey!
I made it through. I understand now how it is done. And not that difficult, by the way :) You simply enter "Citation" and then you go to the second box to Manually enter a "Book" and then you fill out the fields. After that it throws a reference item into the reference box automatically! Cool! That's what I needed!! Thanks for hinting me.
And you can check my article on Stina in the Mainspace, not that one which is in the Draft (it was made from the Ukrainian version and already had workable citations. Citations in the draft one lead to the first article which makes them incorrect). And, please, I worry that you block that article also and it will go offline again :( I made so much effort for it to be in the Mainspace. Please, before destroying it, tell me how I can improve that. If all is Ok and you like the references so then it's cool and it can stay. But possible I will have some other questions in the future on how to improve it. Will you be able to help me? ..and the second article (which is now in the draft can be deleted once we're sure the current "Stina (viilage)" article stays/ Iaroslav Gerashchenko (talk) 18:42, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
Good, looks like you got it right. Don't use "Book" if you have a website url, use "website".
Since you discovered the above mentioned, you can copy url and paste on:
Citation > Automatic, and it will do the rest.
And next time please don't create another article while there's a draft, rather improve the draft and submit it for review.
Contact me on my talk page when you got questions, happy editing Thank you. dxneo (talk) 19:10, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
You may also copy material from Draft:Stina (village) and use it to improve the one in mainspace. dxneo (talk) 19:16, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
@Dxneo hey, thanks for all your explanations. Yes, Wikipedia offers some great automation like in the case of processing the links into references. The only confusing thing that there are different boxes you need to scroll and if I wanted to insert a book it was hidden on the second box, so the first box took my attention.
About my second "Stina (village)" article - as a matter of fact, I did not create the second one. It was my friend who created it after that first one I did and could not move it to Mainspace. Believe it or not but I am pretty sure there had been no "Move" button on that first article. I was desperate as the draft was blocked. Then I asked user Nikopix (my friend) and he created that one (that you checked first) but without proper reference. However, surprisingly it was possible to move his draft into the Mainspace. So I edited it slightly and moved but without proper references. Then you emerged to block it. I started to study how to make proper references and parallel I checked on my first draft. Again, to my big surprise the Move button appeared there! And the references were working as I copy pasted the code behind the article from the Ukrainian version where it had been Ok initially. So I moved that article into th Mainspace while out draft (the one you were checking) remained as the draft. That's how two articles appeared on th smart topic.
Sorry for the long explanation! Thanks for your time.
And by the way, that article "Stina (village)" which has proper references and which is now on the Mainspace, another surprising moment as there was no "Send for the Checking/Approval" button how it was in the second one. So it was moved fast to the Mainspace and no one seems to be checking that for other mistakes or weakness. Does it mean the article is good to stay in the Mainspace?
With kind regards,
Iaroslav Iaroslav Gerashchenko (talk) 21:11, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
Iaroslav Gerashchenko, they will check/review it eventually, I would but I simply cannot read the language. Tip, always cite Census when creating a human settlement article so that it can never be draftified nor deleted, for an example see Westenburg, Ga-Motlatla, Ext 44, and Ladanna just to mention a few. They all survived with only one source. Happy editing Thank you. dxneo (talk) 22:44, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
@Dxneo , hey, thanks for your valuable tip. I will do it.
I have another question if you could help: when I moved the article to the Mainspace I could not find it while typing the name of the article partially. For example, I could not see the article appearing neither in the search box nor on the disambiguation page with the list of all articles that contained "Stina" in them. I only could reach the article by typing in the exact title "Stina (village)". But I think that if someone wants to find this village they wouldn't be typing in "(village)" part and would certainly miss that. So, what I did next is to go on the disambiguation page with the list of other Stina related articles and manually edited that inserting Stina (village) as another article with "Stina" in the title. Now the search box offers Stina (village) when you type in just "Stina". Is it normally done like that? Doesn't Wikipedia offer the automation in this way by throwing the new article with the coinciding title in the list page? How do you do it usually?
I would appreciate your advice. thanks Iaroslav Gerashchenko (talk) 07:38, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
You have to lost it in disambiguations yourself, newly created article don't appear appear in search box when you partially type their name thus you have to type it in full but it changes overtime. dxneo (talk) 10:06, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
@Dxneo , aha, so I did everything correctly? Iaroslav Gerashchenko (talk) 12:23, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
You should type the full name of the article, not just Stina. I just realized I made a typing error above. dxneo (talk) 13:15, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
Hey, dear friend.
I have some more few questions to you. Would you be kind to explain to me because my confusion grows bigger :) There were some events taking place recently with my page that I don't quite understand. I checked the log for the page and saw some intrusion by some users who, I mentioned, often had "bot" in the title. Still, I did not understand how those things connected to what was changed with the page:
1) The most important is the page on this village started to be connected with other versions on the same village in other languages! For me this is a very very fortunate event because I still was anticipating a difficult work ahead on connecting the new English page to the rest of the pages, where Ukrainian is the prototype, of course, for all as it has the biggest amount of information. But to my big surprise now English is listed among the "Languages of the article". And on the English version there are transfers to other language versions alike. How come? How did it happen?
2) Second is that the title of the article was changed from "Stina (village)" to "Stina (Vinnytsia oblast)". Well, this is very interesting because you need to be knowledgeable to extract from the text exactly the correct name of the wider region where the village is located. So the Ukrainian should have done it. But no one connected with me on this. Does it mean that those "Bots" did that?
3) Third is our in the beginning of the article a disambiguation appeared leading to the article on the very close topic that goes like: "For the ancient Trypillia-Cucuteni Stina article please visit this article..." But I did not see anything like that in the log that someone could introduce that. How did it appear then there?
Will you be able to answer these questions? I'm still learning how Wikipedia functions and maybe I will convert to a more regular contributor, who knows? :) There are plenty of interesting topics on my region that are not represented in the Encyclopedia.
With kind regards,
Iaroslav Iaroslav Gerashchenko (talk) 12:41, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
I would check the page's edit history to give you 100% accurate answers but...
1) There are bots like Pi bot that creates wikidata item and on the wikidata item that's where they connect the languages. Most of the times bots do that and do it too, I did it multiple times, for an example see Myztro.
2) Wikipedia/Wikipedians try to keep everything neutral and accurate so yes a Ukrainian might have moved the article to the recent title or a new page reviewer might have noticed that when they reviewing the article thus they changed it. NB: Stina (village) redirects to the current version of the article.
3) Again, if the pages have similar titles then they often have hatnotes. See Lucy Walters for an example.
I answered your questions to the best of my abilities and i hope you understand them, happy editing Thank you. dxneo (talk) 15:25, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, @Dxneo, for staying in touch. Yes, your answers are helpful.
Very fast I'm asking you a small but important question: I could not find how to insert a preview image of the article. So now on the hover over the active link it is simply a text. But there are other articles when you hover over them they show a text and to the right a picture in the box. How do I do it? Iaroslav Gerashchenko (talk) 15:36, 11 December 2023 (UTC)

You upload an image on Wikimedia Commons or a Non-free file, which I believe both are beyond your expertise (for now). dxneo (talk) 16:12, 11 December 2023 (UTC)

I have already been uploading files on Wikicommons when I was creating the album inside the article. So I'm acknowledged how to do it. But once it is on the wikicommons so what should I do next? How to tie the file inside the article's preview? Iaroslav Gerashchenko (talk) 09:06, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
Ok, I have found how to do it, I guess - one does it through adding an infobox with the settlement info with an image in it. Iaroslav Gerashchenko (talk) 11:09, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks a lot, @Dxneo, for all your explanations and your time. Iaroslav Gerashchenko (talk) 11:10, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
You're welcom, my apologies for not responding to your text in time, I was experiencing Loadshedding. dxneo (talk) 21:11, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
@Dxneo , yes, I heard in South Africa it is common. Even in Ukraine, with Russia bombarding our country every day it is easier with rolling blackouts this year. Previous winter was very tough on this.. You are from South Africa, right? Iaroslav Gerashchenko (talk) 21:30, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
Yes, I am South African and Loadshedding is really not a good thing + now there's electrical cables theft going on in the country (or at least where I reside). It's tough. dxneo (talk) 21:43, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
@Dxneo , I believe it. And I wish you to get through Iaroslav Gerashchenko (talk) 22:35, 12 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello. That picture is a cropped fragment from a bigger picture that is already stored on Wikimedia Commons - https://uk.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%93%D1%96%D0%B9%D0%BE%D0%BC_%D0%9B%D0%B5%D0%B2%D0%B0%D1%81%D1%81%D0%B5%D1%80_%D0%B4%D0%B5_%D0%91%D0%BE%D0%BF%D0%BB%D0%B0%D0%BD#/media/%D0%A4%D0%B0%D0%B9%D0%BB:Delineatio_Specialis_Et_Accurata_Ukrainae.jpg But in a better quality
I have described it in the description to the image. If that works, please, tell me how to delete the tag about the problem with the picture's license. I don't know as I'm new to Wikipedia. Iaroslav Gerashchenko (talk) 09:58, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
