Re: Censorship
[edit]I am in strong agreement over the censorship of Wikipedia. I believe your statement regarding censorship in the "profanity" article is correct and in accordance with Wikipedia guidelines. However, I must stress the importance of following guidelines in relation to the discussion page. Please see my note on the discussion page of the "profanity" article. If Wikipedia guidelines are not adhered to, there is a risk of being banned -- this obviously applies to all users and is not a personal threat. Thanks for your time. --82.11.217.185 (talk) 10:16, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hello, thank you for your response to my post in the Profanity discussion page; I have responded there. Do you have an account (thus user page) or do you always edit anonymously? If you would like to discuss the matter of my post further, I believe it would be wise to keep it out of the Profanity discussion page as it doesn't really pertain. --Iamthedeus (talk) 01:07, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
Discussion moved here
[edit]As the discussion about the appropriateness of my comment in the Profanity talk page did not really pertain to the Profanity page or to the content of what I was saying, I have moved it here. Iamthedeus (talk) 20:53, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, I am not the person that edited the article, and in fact I agree with your point on not editing out these profane words. You provide guidelines for others on how the main article should be edited, yet you breach guidelines which apply to this edit page. The Wikipedia guidelines clearly state that "personal attacks" and "insults" (Wikipedia then cites two examples, calling someone an "idiot" or a "fascist"). Wikipedia also clearly states that users should not "threaten people". I believe the phrase "So fuck off, cunts" is a clear breach of both these guidelines. Your post is excessively long, and so I would request that the post be edited to be shorter and to be in line with Wikipedia guidelines. My post may be deleted once this has taken place. --82.11.217.185 (talk) 10:10, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, I would have to disagree somewhat with your assertion that my post included "personal attacks" and "insults". The vast majority of what I was saying doesn't qualify as this because everything I was saying was (in my opinion) true, not just blind insults: "Of all the places to impose your irrational and fascist obsession with ..."; "you dogmatic little fucks". Well, they were being irrational and fascist and dogmatic, as I was stressing throughout my post. And these were not ad hominem attacks; they were quite content-related criticisms, because it was the irrationality and dogma of these people that was the very cause of the problem I was addressing.
- However, even if you disregard this, what I wrote still couldn't be classified as personal attacks, because throughout I was clearly not addressing only one person (presumably the person who censored the words), but rather censormongers in general; hence "if some of you dogmatic little fucks" and "So fuck off, cunts". Nonetheless, I do admit that the latter was largely an expression of anger and isn't saying anything relevant (as the other ones are), so I've removed it (though I'm not sure how you figure it qualifies as a threat).
- Also, I do agree that my post was overlong, so I've deleted some of the more superfluous parts. In any case, I appreciate your bringing these points up, but I believe that most of what I had was acceptable for the reasons I've just outlined. Perhaps, if you see this and want to discuss it further, you can give me your account name and we'll discuss it on our talk pages so that we don't clog up this page. Thanks --Iamthedeus (talk) 01:09, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

WP:FILMS Questionnaire
[edit]As a member of WikiProject Films, you are invited to take part in the project's first questionnaire. It is intended to gauge your participation and views on the project. At the conclusion of the questionnaire, the project's coordinators will use the gathered feedback to find new ways to improve the project and reach out to potential members. The results of the questionnaire will be published in next month's newsletter. If you know of any editors who have edited film articles in the past, please invite them to take part in the questionnaire. Please stop by and take a few minutes to answer the questions so that we can continue to improve our project. Happy editing!

Cleaning up vandalism
[edit]Hello, when you encounter vandalism, please revert it rather than trying to clean it up manually. An IP editor vandalised the structure article, and then you simply removed the malformed section heading rather than restoring the article to its previous state. I've cleaned up the article, but it's important to know how to fix vandalism in case you encounter it in the future. Graham87 06:06, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
