“THE IMMORAL INDEPENDENCE”
AUTHOR: MADANDA IVAN
BAED MAKERERE UNIVERSITY
They gave us so what? At least 95 per cent of the Ugandans know what happened this date 9th/October/1962. Ugandans got independence. I don’t want to be critical. I need not to question; it happened my ancestors were happy. They raised the tri-color flag it has a meaning today. When I was in primary three, my teacher asked me what color black means? I would say “we are in darkness” but this was wrong. As usual he wanted me to feel the greatness in the color, he alleged “it means our skin color” Kenneth would pass but the teacher was not happy with my answer. I wouldn’t love to expound on all this, just wanted to give you a glimpse on it. Today I stand, what lingers in my mind is the date 9th/October/1962. The raising of the tri-color flag and the meaning of each color. What do you say?
Today 9th/0ctober/2019, they are converged in Sironko town to celebrate 57 years of “corrupted rule”. What a “heartless” Agenda. Have you wondered what is taking place there? Imagine they deployed before September, to provide “security”. If Ugandans were independent why deploy on this great day? Why bring all the Ak 47, the RPG, war Tanks, just show off. This mighty day, we carry guns that crumbled our ancestors. They want us to be scared that they have it all. I mean no one can come up because they own our lives, in their hands moreover. MY Ugandans what do we do?
The immoral independence, that’s how I look at this “great” date. Maybe in the first it was genuine then who spoilt it? Do I need to blame who? What do you say? They went to the bush to do what? We had got independence. Never mention this near me? It sounds like “an abuse” indeed it is I know a few will kowtow with this. But this is how I understand it, after 9th/October/1962 we had to rule ourselves. In 1995 we got the constitution which spoilt everything. Someone bought a prostitute to mean “the constitution” they have paid the price what do you think they will do? To this “young girl” who wants to take the mother to “hospital”. He will boast around to “threaten her” look at this in line with the deployment done before “lapoloni” steps in. they paid the price by going to the bush now it is time for us to pay back, let me say what Machiavelli emphasized “the end justifies the means” what I mean here, was it right for them to go there? The method was not genuine the outcome is still questionable. This morning I told my friend to spend the whole day indoor, not because I didn’t know what it was but because I feared the “Lumpen rulers”. Guess what he said today is 9th/October, “this is independence day” I laughed. Let me tell you I argued “someone bought his prostitute he has paid the “price” what do you think he will do” look at the 1995 constitution drafted by “Ugandan leaders” what lineage of “thieves” all driven by self interest. As noted later, someone is willing to do what it takes he will “pull the hair” “slap” “twist” just to make the “young girl” scared and they fulfill their interests, what a “benevolent dictator”.
The fact that my words shall not do any positive thing to change what has already happened, something that is two generations older than I am I will call for the holy spirit to intervene. The situation is beyond control. It has zeroed to personal level, survival for the fittest and based on adaptability of the individual. Those who fail to adapt, ask you where they are. Ugandans who should address this catastrophe? Who should come up to present our cries...? I feel pity to complete writing this, beg to end.
I wish all my friends a memorable Independence Day.
