Question about the "Speedy deletion nomination of GangDan Pan"
[edit]In your previous note, you said"If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion".". However, after I clicked on the link under "visiting the page", I did not see any button with "click here to contest this speedy deleting". Please show me what I can do in this situation. Is this a browser problem? I am using Google Chrome. Thank you. AmberDeHmyj (talk) 04:59, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I see "Click here to contest this speedy deleting" buttons. And, please don't delete Speedy Deletion tags. --Revitalk 06:10, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
- The button you're looking for is in the deletion tag at the top of the GangDan Pan page. Clicking that button will take you to the talkpage where you can make your case. The article is missing reliable sources showing that the gentleman meets our notability guidelines. It's also a bio of a living person, and these are automatically deleted if no sources are provided. Question
[edit]Good day,
My name is Raja Amin from Malaysia. I am the admin who created the page for Asian Institute of Finance and I have no relation with the pass users. As I know Asian Institute of Finance is a non-profit educational group which conducts research regarding current trends on financial service industry especially on human capital development in Financial Service Industry and I have also participate few of their events which were free around Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The reason I created this page to create awareness for the public to focus on human capital development.
Regards, Raja — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rajaaminbinjusoh (talk • contribs) 02:16, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Raja. It looks like another editor has tagged the article pointing out the outstanding issues that need to be addressed. INeverCry 02:19, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
Why did you delete the International Code Council page?? This was a useful resource that is linked to in other wikipedia articles. I do not work for ICC. I'm actually a builder. It makes no sense to subtract from the knowledge base. Now there are wikipedia links that point to deleted pages. That's bad for wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.246.167.235 (talk) 05:08, 23 January 2014 (UTC)

Question for you
[edit]Hello! A question about images/files (I know that you have lots of experience with them): It was pointed out to me that User:Haseeb Ahmed Malik 786 has had literally dozens of their file uploads challenged; see their talk page. In this kind of situation, do we take any steps such as warning the user or trying to educate them? Thanks! --MelanieN (talk) 17:11, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
- That's a lot of copyvios. At Commons I would use {{End of copyvios}}. I never had to warn or block someone here for copyvio images when I was an admin. @Diannaa: or @RHaworth: would probably know better how to deal with this. INeverCry 18:19, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
- People have just been laying down templates with Twinkle without anyone taking the time to tell them in plain language what they are doing wrong. I will put a personal note on their Talk page. There's some readily adaptable boilerplate messages available at User:Diannaa/Copyright for this purpose. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:35, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
- @Diannaa: Thanks for taking the time. I figured you'd have something like that ready to slap him with. I also hate warning people as a non-admin. I figure they're probably thinking "you can't block nobody punk!" or something close to that. When you threaten to pop someone it's better to not be firing blanks. INeverCry 20:25, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Template everyone. Typically in a case like that it's not a matter of how the message had been communicated, it's the editor ignoring the warnings given. Their contributions indicate not a single edit to a talk page in any namespace and not a single effort to save any article or image nominated for deletion. That user is editing with no awareness of the community and should get banned for being a hassle (in my extrajudicial opinion). Chris Troutman (talk) 19:58, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
- Like Hey, a fellow blockist! (Is that a word?) INeverCry 20:25, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
- Given the user name and the content they are submitting, it's possible their English language skills are poor. Copyright law is not taken very seriously in some parts of the world, so the user may not be aware that we are trying to keep it clean here. -- Diannaa (talk) 20:29, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
- A block would increase his level of awareness real quick! INeverCry 20:45, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
- The 25 templates laid down using Twinkle have obviously not brought enlightenment, but I am not surprised by that. It's a singularly ineffective way to communicate with new users :/ -- Diannaa (talk) 21:06, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
- I come across cases like this all the time on Commons, where a large number of images have been tagged and deleted with only automated notifications to the uploader and no detailed warnings or messages. I usually try to warn or leave a message after I delete or tag multiple copyvios from one uploader. I think some taggers are uncomfortable giving actual warnings, or they don't feel they have the time. It's too bad Twinkle couldn't be set to add an additional boiler plate warning like yours when it detects a certain number of previous copyvio notifications for deleted images/pages. INeverCry 21:16, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
- Here's an example of how I like to do it when I have nominated a lot of uploads from one user: Diff of User talk:Lancastercavite. But I am not working with images much any more; I have switched to helping out at CCI. -- Diannaa (talk) 22:07, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

[edit]INeverCry: I'm just trying to get a company entry onto Wiki, NOT to advertise. I'm new to this and tips gratefully received....I've looked at other company pages to get a feel for what is acceptable...trying to keep factual. HeliOperations (talk) 22:40, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
- If the company is notable, the article would have to be created using verifiable sources to show notability. You might want to go through the WP:AFC process. Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) and WP:V are good guidelines. You also have to be careful about WP:COI if you're a company employee/owner. INeverCry 22:48, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi INeverCry, I would appreciate your further comments on this talk page. LawrencePrincipe keeps removing all mention of "controversy" or "controversial" from the article despite multiple reliable sources saying "controversy" or "controversial". LawrencePrincipe also insists on adding an official statement in response to the controversy in full to the article, and places it before the paragraph of the controversy itself, which I consider totally weird. starship.paint (talk | ctrb) 07:31, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

Deletion of "Al Hurricane"
[edit]Hi - I just heard of this musician and was surprised that there was a deleted entry on Wikipedia. The deletion says "(A7: Article about a band, singer, musician, or musical ensemble, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject)". After a little web research, it seems that Al Hurricane should meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for musicians. I guess the article just didn't include enough information to establish that.
I note that there are several Wikipedia articles that mention Al Hurricane, including: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_music_in_the_United_States_(1920%E2%80%9349) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_music_in_the_United_States_(1970%E2%80%93present) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_New_Mexico http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sparx_(US_band)
I have no vested interest in this and have no connection with the musician. I’m just an interested Wikipedia user, and was surprised at the lack of a current listing. As I said above, I’ve just heard of him and have no particular info to add to an article, but if there is any way I can help, please feel free to contact me.

Question
[edit]I am not sure why my user page was deleted. I just included some facts about DriveHQ. The information about DriveHQ is true. Please visit www.drivehq.com or search DriveHQ online to verify it. We are not a spammer, we've offered Cloud IT service for over a decade! We are based in Silicon Valley, we have over 2 million registered users, many of them business customers, incl. quite a few Fortune 500 companies. We've seen too many smaller companies have a company page on Wikipedia, shouldn't DriveHQ has a page on Wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by DriveHQ (talk • contribs) 16:40, 4 August 2014
- There would be no problem with DriveHQ having a proper article in WP:Mainspace, showing WP:N using WP:RS. It should be started in a sandbox such as User:DriveHQ/sandbox. A userpage under the company name is often seen as promotional though. You can have a look at the guidelines for company articles at Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business. If you're an employee/owner of the company, you may run into WP:COI issues. INeverCry 18:11, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
From Caroline Cecil Associates: - this is what I have written on this page. Please could you confirm it will not be deleted. Thank you This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... (your reason here) --Caroline Cecil Associates (talk) 16:54, 5 August 2014 (UTC) it is not being used for anything other than editing pages of which I have knowledge - e.g. Mihir Bose, who is my husband and whose page I have corrected for factual error - and cited references. Please do not delete. Please could you confirm this. Thank you.Caroline Cecil Associates (talk) 16:54, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Deletetion question
[edit]there a number of strange issues here, I left a link on my page that could never be construed as commercial if you bothered to look at it, it is my complete cv which i thought was what you people were asking for i9n my creating this page , and second you leave a message with "click me buttons" that do not work and then anyway delete my page for leaving a link to my cv? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tahitilink (talk • contribs) 23:16, 9 August 2014 (UTC) regards Tahitilink aka L A Miller — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tahitilink (talk • contribs) 23:20, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
- Userpages are for Wikipedia-related material, so CVs and resumes, etc, usually get zapped. The buttons are only an instructional example in the message I left you: they work on the actual page nominated for deletion only. I'm not an administrator, and have no ability to delete pages. Someone else deleted it. Anyways, I would suggest you go do some editing, and not worry too much about your userpage. INeverCry 02:45, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
I'm too sad to tell you
[edit]Inevercry: I just uploaded File:Im too sad to tell you.jpg to Wikipedia under a fair use rationale. I'd welcome you input on the upload. --Nowa (talk) 16:14, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
- I don't think the fair use rationale is legitimate. The still of him crying doesn't add anything to the article. You can say in words that the film features a long close-up of him crying, which the section of the article where the image appears does, and this is a simple concept, with no need for visual illustration. I think it would end up deleted at FFD. That said, I'm busy at Commons, so the image's safe from me. INeverCry 21:13, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Hi again, INeverCry. I am sorry to see you leave WP:WMNWRITE because the project scope is larger than you expected. You are an important early supporter of the project and your comments have been very helpful. I'm hopeful that you decide to return at some point. Know that you can work on as much or as little of the scope, i.e. biographies only, as suits you. I wish you the best, --Rosiestep (talk) 15:02, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
- I'm sorry for the confusion INeverCry. We should've updated the project page right away to reflect the changed scope. I agree that including works does make for a rather massive WikiProject, but I think there is some sense in including them too. I for one wouldn't object to revisiting the scope of the project. Either way, we'd be much better off with you as a member, especially given your extensive and excellent navbox contributions. gobonobo + c 05:34, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

Image deletion
[edit]According to this diff [1] you deleted a file I uploaded many years ago on the grounds of "copyright violation". I have only just become aware of this, as I received no notification on Commons (this may because the file was transferred to Commons by another editor. I don't know. It was so long ago I can't remember). I can find no record of any discussion on Commons. So I'd like to know how a photograph I took myself can be a copyright violation. My guess is that you were making a judgement regarding freedom of panorama rules, with regard to the picture in the background (which was, admittedly, intended to be a significant part of the subject of the photograph). I would like to be able to use this image, and don't really care whether or not it is on commons. Could you clarify your decision and offer any useful suggestions. Paul B (talk) 17:54, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
- It was speedy deleted as a derivative work because there's no FoP for 2D artworks in the UK. I did the deletion, and the image was tagged for speedy deletion by my fellow Commons admin Rodhullandemu. I would suggest finding an admin here to restore File:Forum Venaticium.jpg. Would appreciate your advice. thanks (My Warehouse Home (talk) 02:12, 2 February 2015 (UTC))
- First I would note that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and so the aim is to create articles (something like My Warehouse Home) rather than any kind of notice or advertisement on a user page. In order to have an article covering your publication, you would have to show why the publication is notable using reliable sources. Guidelines can be found at Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). You may also want to use the articles for creation process. The other issue in this case is that you're a representative of the publication, which introduces a possible conflict of interest. If you do go forward with writing a proper article, you'll have be careful to present a neutral account of the subject. You may also end up having to create a new account with a non-company name. If that becomes the case, I would advise you to announce on your user page that you're a representitive of the publication. INeverCry 02:35, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
Uncatted women writer stubs
[edit]I think the only times it's automatic is when someone requests a bot run. Thanks for adding the WPWW talkpage template to those stubs. I've been working on adding it, too. It would be a sweet if a bot did it automatically on a routine basis, though. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:32, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
- @Rosiestep: What about User:InceptionBot? It still updates User:AlexNewArtBot/RussiaSearchResult for WPRussia, and even User:AlexNewArtBot/WomenartistsSearchResult for WikiProject Women artists, among many other projects. How would one go about getting a new article search result like these for WPWW? I've used these for tagging new WPRU articles, and articles for WPPoetry/WPNovels too. Not sure if any of these lists is also tagged for the corresponding project by another bot. I don't know much about bots though. I just smile when they help me and get annoyed when they don't. I know the bot wizards on Commons, but not here. Perhaps you know who to ask. Even if we just had a new article feed like WPRussia, it would be very usefull. INeverCry 03:49, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
- I know of 2 bot runners and I can ask them about this this week. But are you ok if I move this conversation to the WPWW talkpage? --Rosiestep (talk) 14:24, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
- @Rosiestep: Sure, go ahead. INeverCry 01:22, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

question about participating
[edit]Hi - I'm a grad student learning about Wikipedia and am interested in helping out with the Women Writers project. I saw you've helped a lot with that one and just had a question about expanding stubs. Would you recommend only working on articles about subjects I'm already familiar with or is it okay to pick an article and go for it? Thanks! -- Ahbeall — Preceding undated comment added 22:36, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
- As long as you're familiar with sourcing and know how to use sources when adding material to an article, I would say work on whatever you're interested in. User:ProveIt GT can make sourcing easier; you can also review WP:MOS for formatting of articles, etc. INeverCry 01:34, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
Emily Dickinson template
[edit]Hi, and nice work. I've added some to the Emily Dickinson template, please take a look and see if the additions fit your image of the piece. Thank you for creating it. One of my sisters loves Dickinson's poetry, so my additions are in a way for her. Thanks again, Randy Kryn 16:44 10 February, 2015 (UTC)
- The additions look great Randy. Thanks for taking the time to work on that. I've done 81 of these over the past few years, many of which I hope to expand at some point. My level of activity on Commons makes it tough to do much over here beyond some CSD tagging and WikiProject tagging though. INeverCry 02:04, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
- What an impressive list of templates! Nice work, thank you. You've pretty much covered much of literature. You must like templates, so you'd know that those who benefit most from them are those who work on them, they're the ones making a mental map of a topic or a persons life and career. They've taught me a lot. Would you mind if I sometimes poked around on some of those, maybe putting in some of the 'Below' items (commons, wikiquote, etc.). If you did so much here I can't imagine how much you've accomplished over at commons. Cool. Randy Kryn 19:42 11 February 2015 (UTC)
- Please feel welcome to work on any of these. Many of them need work, as I just made a rudimentary navbox in many cases. As far as Commons goes, I focus mostly on admin work, though I do a bit of categorization of tennis player and figure skater images. INeverCry 23:29, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll put a link on my talk page so I can dip into the list from time to time (although probably not often enough). Do you have some favorites that you'd like to get back to or would want me to play with first? I don't know why more editors here don't relish working on templates. They are maps of both the site and of the lives and work of the individuals being mapped, which to me is a key component of their overall footprint on Wikipedia. Your batch is a treasure of data on literature, so again, thank you for doing them. Randy Kryn 8:18 12 February, 2015 (UTC)
- Keats, Shelley, and Pushkin are the most important writers I've done navboxes for, and are also my personal favorites. I like most of them, but I tend toward the 19th century and older writers, and the Russians. The newer writers I did because they needed doing; I don't read much past the 20s or 30s, and I haven't read any of the ones I did navboxes for. I kind of ran out of the ones I really like and read. INeverCry 10:59, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
- Putting the 'Commons' etc. on some of them. You did a template for Emma Goldman! Right after Maureen Stapleton won the Academy Award for portraying her in 'Reds' I drove over and wrote a poem on her grave, "telling her" about the Academy Award win. Decades ahead of her time (and quite angry about not being in her time). Looking at your list I must say again, nice work, and thank you from a fan of literature, although I don't have a speaking knowledge even a tenth of what you must have about the important poets of their time. Randy Kryn 23:12 12 February, 2015 (UTC)

Here's a fellow navbox creator who's done quite a few literary ones, though with more of a modern bent than mine. Here's the navbox to end all navboxes. INeverCry 23:36, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

Presentation proposal for Wikimania 2015
[edit]How to pick up more women... | |
Hello! Victuallers and I have developed a proposal for a talk to be presented at Wikimania 2015. It's titled, How to pick up more women... -- as in more women editors and more women's biographies. Examples include the Edit-a-thon blitz during WikiWomen's History Month and the "new articles" work underway by WikiProject Women Writers. The Wikimania talk proposal review process has begun and there's no guarantee that this proposal will be accepted. That's where you come in. Please review our proposal and give us feedback. Ultimately, we hope you add your name to the signup at the bottom of the proposal which signifies you're interested in the talk (it does not signify you'll be attending the event). Thank you! Rosiestep (talk) 22:25, 22 February 2015 (UTC) |
Hi INeverCry! I have also proposed a proposal here, I'm not sure if it will be accepted or not but I want members of our Women Writers Project and those who are interested to sign up as my proposal is also indirectly related to picking up more Womens from developing countries. My proposal's main aim is "provide free of data charges access to Wikipedia" which will increase the traffic and ultimately more Womens. I would be glad if you and other members could sign up. Thanks! Jim Carter 14:04, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

- Thanks Drmies. It's in the high 90s here, so a cold beer would be a bit tempting. But I gave up alcohol 5 years ago along with smoking. I highly recommend Arrogant Bastard Ale, and Ruination IPA though. My old favorites... INeverCry 22:55, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- I think I made up for the both of us tonight. (Our go-to beer these days is a local, Straight To Ale--their Monkeynaut, or something cute like that.) High 90s here as well--but the pool is only in the high 80s. I was reminded of your rather principled stand a few years ago, for which I congratulate you. Pushkin
[edit]With Glazunov's 150 birthday coming up, I started Cantata after Pushkin and wonder if you could help to find the texts on which it is based and whatever more? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:49, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- I've asked a friend over on ru.wiki. INeverCry 02:58, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- The Cantata was just dedicated to Pushkin's birthday anniversary and was based on the verses of another "poet", K. R. See [3]. Actually, I don't think those verses can inspire anyone. Sealle (talk) 04:50, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the help. Ironic that he was exiled and hounded by one Romanov and then "memorialized" by another... INeverCry 05:12, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for the help, both. I was afraid that the name I found in the works list was not really "common", which one should I take then? Can you word the above in the article? I think it's interesting! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:55, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

“ | I. Хор: Мы многолюдною толпою… |
” |
- And what names would you like to transliterate? Sealle (talk) 11:50, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you, very helpful. Names: the different names of the piece. I now chose the recorded name as the article title, but that may be not the best choice. Better than Cantata after Puschkin anyway. The score also has short names of the movements Chorus, Berceuse, Aria and Hymn. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:56, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
English | Russian |
---|---|
Commemorative Cantata for the Centenary of the Birth of Pushkin |
Торжественная кантата в память 100-летней годовщины А. С. Пушкина |
IMHO, the current article name looks nice. Sealle (talk) 12:15, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! Will you take that to the article? I am a bit busy at the moment. If not I will do it later. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:23, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- Most Russian now in the article (not the beginning of the movements yet. Next question: recorded version is with orchestra, score for piano? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:26, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- One more: "the original titles you can find here" - well, not easy for me ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:30, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

- @WOSlinker: Sorry for the extra work. I'm used to the script on Commons that automatically does usage replacements through my account. I'll make sure I do any needed replacements after filemoves here in future. Thanks for the help and for making me aware of this. It surprises me that Wikipedia doesn't have a script to do replacements, but instead relies on redirects.
