Hi there! Just wanted to reach out about the Hakanpaa edit. Sorry if my edit summary came off as a little condescending. There's just such a limited field to explain it there, and so in my brevity I hope I didn't come across brash! But that's also why I wanted to expound a little bit. Hakanpaa's rights have been held by St. Louis since his last contract expired and he left for Europe in 2015; they were held until the year he turned 27, which was this year, as per the CBA. If he wanted to play in the NHL before this July 1, he would've needed to go through STL (either signing with them or getting them to trade him). This can be seen a little more officially on the NHL Free Agent Tracker where he is listed as a "Group 3 UFA" under St. Louis (Group 3, under the CBA, most generally meaning, "if you don't have a current contract but have so in the past, and you are 27 years or older or have 7 seasons or more experience, you are an unrestricted free agent"). You may have known all this already and just overlooked it with Hakanpaa (as I did with Kirkland), but wanted to reach out and explain, in case!
