Take a break

[edit]

Saw your note at Esperanza and I agree that you could do with a break. Your grades are way more important than anything here and if you feeling this has become a battlezone for you then it's even more important you shift perspective for a while. Hopefully you'll come back soon refreshed and with your academic work under control - take care. Sophia 10:30, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Terence, I double that. School comes first but it will be nice to see you around one day. Good luck! --Tone 12:03, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I blame the SG meetup ;). Many of the attendees are dropping like flies with respect to Wikipedia. Take a break and come back. Cheers, NoSeptember 12:47, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Take an extended wikibreak, and ensure that the important things in your life are shored up. Wiki will always be here when you return :) Good Luck! -- Avi 14:22, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever you do, be sure to come back! We'll be waiting for you here.--digital_me(TalkˑContribs) 15:04, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, education is much more important than Wikipedia, so I wish you all the best in this cause. I hope when things have stablized that you pop back.Blnguyen | rant-line 02:20, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Terence, hope you come back one day. I guess I'll just be waiting for you until then. Hope your studies go alright. ;-) — The King of Kings 21:59 July 08 '06

Terence, you have to do what you have to do. I know you can do well with all of the matters in real life, be sure not to forget us. Good luck! Yanksox 11:18, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Smart decision but we'll miss you

[edit]

I very much respect your decision and I believe it's a good one; there are more important things than Wikipedia. Don't look back!

At the same time, just be aware that you leave with the best wishes, respect and appreciation of many Wikipedians, including some of us you don't know (but know you by your work)

Good luck and Godspeed.

Don Mueang vs. Don Muang

[edit]

Sorry, but I had to revert you, Don Mueang is the recommended spelling, see [1]. Muang in Thai is ม่วง, while Mueang is เมือง. Both are clearly differently pronounced. The Thai romanization is a pain, but we here try to use the Royal Thai General System of Transcription, which has its shortcomings but is better than using a random system like by number of Google hits for the various spellings... andy 14:32, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly disagree. On road signs you also find varying spellings (not sure about Don Mueang, but other names are differently transcribed), and it's hard to understand why one government department creates a "official" transcription scheme, and other departments use their own. You might also see Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Thailand-related articles) - though never officially adopted, the consensus there was to use RTGS. andy 14:39, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Quite the contrary. Just because there are so many version it is very helpful to have at least a standard to use. There are always redirects which can be used, but internally we should try our best to have a consistant spelling scheme. And Muang is a misleading spelling, while Mueang is a common word (meaning town) you will find it in several places - for example the administrative entities Amphoe Mueang and Thesaban Mueang, there are places named something like Mueang Mai (new town), streets named Thanon Mueang (a bit like "main street") - and for each there might be a different spelling predominately. It'd simply be a chaos, so better sometimes use a less common but more "correct" spelling than do it different every time. andy 15:02, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello I64s/Archive 8, and thank you for your support at my Request for Adminship, which succeeded with an overwhelming final count of (105/2/0). I was very pleased with the outpouring of kind words from the community that has now entrusted me with these tools, from the classroom, the lesson in human psychology and the international resource known as Wikipedia. Please feel free to leave me plenty of requests, monitor my actions (through the admin desk on my userpage) and, if you find yourself in the mood, listen to some of what I do in real life. In any case, keep up the great work and have a fabulous day. Grandmasterka 07:15, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

August Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

RE:Wikimania 2007

[edit]

First of all, I would like to thank you for letting me know about this. However, I feel that Singapore is not ready yet to host Wikimania. One of the main reasons is the relative low number of Singaporeans involved in this project (correct me if I am wrong). Secondly, the minimum number of participation must be 300. I feel that Singapore would have a problem reaching this target. However, this does not mean that I would not support future bids for this country. I hope that you can understand this. Secondly, I am very busy with work currently and I remain sceptical about the ability to attend such an important event. Moreover, the lack of exposure about Wikipedia in the local newspapers leaves much to be desired. Hope you understand. --Siva1979Talk to me 17:46, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I would like to have further clarification over this bid. In this page one of the ground rules stated was to have the event between July to mid August. However, when I viewed the bid for Singapore, it was proposed to have the event held between 9 June 2007 to 13 June 2007. Don't you think that by choosing these dates, the bid would not be seriously considered? --Siva1979Talk to me 01:57, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • On media exposure, I think the event if brought to Singapore may set a trend possibly rivaling what the magnitude of the Singapore blogosphere is right now. The media is usually interested only when it occurs. - 09:39, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your support on my RfA. Give me shout if I can be of help. Thanks/wangi 00:20, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Terence!

On Kpjas' RFA, you have voted neutral based on his apparent lack of experience ("Your stay here has been long, but try to have more edits in the WP and user talk namespace, and I can support you the next time"). In fact, Kpjas is already an admin on the Polish Wikipedia, and has 37,000 edits there, including 2,600 to WP space over there. You have voted neutral based on inexperience, but these facts clearly indicate plenty of experience in the required areas. Terence, you want an experienced editor for admin. Kpjas is clearly experienced. Without badgering you (or trying not to, at least), I urge you to reconsider your vote in this particular RfA. Happy editing! :) --Firsfron of Ronchester 01:49, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Terence,
Thanks for your nice note on my talk page, and thank you for reviewing Kpjas' RFA again. Whatever you would have decided, I'm just glad you took a second look. This user deserved to have his full edit tally examined, and it's a shame it was overlooked in the original nomination. Anyway, best wishes and happy editing! :) --Firsfron of Ronchester 22:09, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
