Wikipedia:WikiProject Music theory

Someone seems to be trying to revive Wikipedia:WikiProject Music theory. This is probably a good idea (although how successful it will be is another question). On the project talk page I've mentioned one particular area we might look at, and I think it may be one where you have an interest. Feline Hymnic (talk) 23:12, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Files

I was just moving some of your files over to the Commons when I realised how many you had uploaded. That got me wondering if there was a particular reason for putting them here rather than there. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 12:06, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

{{upload}}

You seem to have created Template:Upload for your own use. I strongly suggest you userfy this template by moving it to a new name like User:Hyacinth/upload. This template is not of general interest to the Wikipedia community, and as such it does not belong in the Template namespace.

When you have moved the template, you can still transclude it using {{User:Hyacinth/upload}} and substitute it using {{subst:User:Hyacinth/upload}}. Thanks, — This, that, and the other (talk) 10:09, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

I would like to enlist your help with filling out four note group pattern discussion

I've created a new page off of the Coltrane changes page to begin a discussion on four note groups. It is currently scheduled for deletion in 7 days unless I can add additional material. As a frequent contributor to music theory pages, I'd like to enlist your help in filling out this page. I'm looking for citations and additional samples to ensure that the page does not get deleted by the powers that be. Thank you. blyons3(talk) 22:20, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks

Just because it doesn't get said enough, thank you for your massive contributions to the encyclopedia. No special reason, just random good wishes being sent in your direction, that you can keep a balance going among joy, health, peace, strength, and mental clarity. Be well, man. __ Just plain Bill (talk) 00:17, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

No need to adjust your style on my account; I've gotten used to your online persona, and besides, it's good practice for me ;-) keeping a cool head and maintaining that core assumption that keeps us working smoothly, more or less. Far as I can tell, it's all good. __ Just plain Bill (talk) 04:08, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
It looks like you got here about two and a half years before I did. The focus of my attention tends to be narrow and spotty, so no, I haven't noticed a stylistic change. I did notice that essay of yours, and there may be some merit to it. I will be watching there too for a while. Seems to me that Wikipedia has matured into a community with so many users, and so many areas of interest, that there is room for editors' experience to be vastly different from the rest. So far I'm crossing my fingers that the nuts and vandals may be kept down to a dull roar, and some days I wonder. Be well, __ Just plain Bill (talk) 22:38, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Your thanks idea

Just write an essay about your idea, don't try to get it made policy. Two thanks for every thanks received would be an unsustainable pyramid scheme, and quite fake, but suggesting editors pay it forward is fine for an essay. Fences&Windows 02:00, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

And it relates to the idea of Wikipedia:WikiLove. Fences&Windows 02:05, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Not all ideas are stomped on so unceremoniously as that one at the village pumps; that wasn't the nicest reception. If you have speculative ideas, the idea lab is somewhere to kick them around. And you don't need anyone's permission to write an essay, you can just do it! Fences&Windows 03:23, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Bug in image

LEAVING MESSAGE:

Hi Mikhail. This is Xavi Montero, from Spain.

First of all, concratulations for the great job with those articles and graphics about chords and music, I'm learning a lot.

Nevertheless, I think I've found a bug in the graphic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Minor_Leittonwechselkl%C3%A4nge.png

As chord construction in that graphic is done by raising the top note by HALF STEP, the second of the three examples I believe is wrong. The central example departs from an [F][A][C] and shows how [C] is rised to [D] which yields in [D][F][A] after inverting [D] one octave down... but... as there are NO ALTERATIONS in the key signature neither for C neither D... should'nt we LOWER the [D] by one half getting a [D flat] resulting in a [bD][F][A] where [bD] is the note [D] preceeded by a "temporal" alteration by putting a "flat" symbol just before it?

It would happen a similar situation than in the file http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Major_Leittonwechselkl%C3%A4nge.png where in the third example the [F] is raised by the "sharp" symbol, in which case the note is propely modified by its sharp symbol.

Keep in mind that I am carefully reading the documentation but, as I am larning all this just now, it could happen that I am wrong and the picture I suspect is incorrect is really correct, which, in this case, would mean I am not understanding something, as from [C] to [D] it seems to me that it goes a full-step instead of a halp-step which is what I understand it should go when reading the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diatonic_function article.

I am not English, my language is Spanish, so please excuse me if I cannot express what I mean too much clearly. My English was learnt at school but I've never lived in a country where English us the current language, so I may be uning some incorrect words, spechially those technical.

Thanks for reading. I don't know if when you say "leave me a message at the bottom of the page" you meant by editing it... you will know how to track the contribution (if I am really contributing to something useful) and how can I be credited if you update this picture thanks to this comment, as I have no tools to update the graphic by myself (I don't have sibellius to do it by myself).

You can reach me at User:xmontero or, better, at my e-mail xmontero at dsitelecom.com

Hope to help! Xavi. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xmontero (talkcontribs) 19:15, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

It is being played on a cello, isn't it?

Hi Hyacinth! Sorry to jump in there uninvited, but it would appear from the fingering and range that the example in Shift (string technique) is being played on a cello. Surely I can't be the only member of WP:WikiProject Rugby league whose childhood violin teacher has a Wikipedia article?--Shirt58 (talk) 10:01, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. And, no, it's got nothing to do with that ultra-violent version of touch-football played in the less civilised parts of England and Australia. To be honest, I can't work out why someone who has started articles for one opera, two Bach Cantatas, and four classic French perfumes is yet so sports-mad :-) .--Shirt58 (talk) 10:44, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as File:Closely related keys in C.png is missing a description and/or other details on its image description page. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors to make better use of the image, and it will be more informative for readers.

If the information is not provided, the image may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

If you have any questions please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 05:17, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

I was reading Creep (Radiohead song) and noticed that the description for this image mentioned that it has "apparently, augmented triads." The word "apparently" lead me to look a little more closely and see that the notes in the image are in fact major triads, and the chord symbols above them are wrong, so I'm guessing someone else added the thing about augmented triads based solely on the chord symbols in the image. While a minus sign does indicate a minor triad, a major triad is actually notated as simply the letter name--no plus sign. Could you fix the image, please? Thanks. :) 140.198.76.100 (talk) 21:36, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

György Ligeti / Reich / Riley

Dear Mikhail,

Thanks for your many contributions here! I have a specific question regarding your contribution about minimalism to the article on György Ligeti from back in December of 2003. I realize it's been quite a while, but do you happen to know what your source was for the claim that Ligeti first heard music by Reich and Riley in 1972? I know he traveled to San Francisco in 1971 and wrote "Selbstprotrait" with reference to those other composers in 1976. If this date is, indeed, verifiable and not speculative, it would have significant implications for research I am currently conducting involving the sketches and manuscript score for "Continuum."

I would appreciate any insight/reference you have! Feel free to email me directly: jahm2@cam.ac.uk

I don't understand the purpose of this redirect; how is Help:Contents/Links related to "use-mention distinction"? I'm just asking because I don't want to RFD it or anything if there's a good reason to have it. rʨanaɢ (talk) 15:28, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Please give me a specific example of what you're trying to get at (that is to say, an example of where the use-mention distinction is important in linking), and an explanation of why you think this redirect is helpful (that is to say, how it helps editors find a policy or guideline they are looking for). rʨanaɢ (talk) 03:21, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Timbre template

I don't understand the new Template:Timbre. Most of what's in it does not seem to be about timbre. Has this been discussed some place? Dicklyon (talk) 05:49, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

FYI

I reverted your changes to Epileptic seizure and Epilepsy, since given what I've read in Hulda Regehr Clark she's nowhere near a reliable source, which means mentioning her viewpoint in the article appears to be a case of WP:UNDUE weight. VernoWhitney (talk) 13:38, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Cadence

I am trying to work some new files into wikipedia. File:Drum - Cadence A.ogg, File:Drum - Cadence B.ogg, and File:Drums - Four Flams.ogg. I am not sure if Cadence (music) is the right place. I started trying to shrink files to make room, but then could not really find the right place to place them.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 00:08, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

I looked at that article too and did not feel that these files belonged there because they seem to be talking about vocal cadences. I viewed these as musical cadences. Do you see a section where they belong in either article or should the music one have a section for military marches?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 02:33, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for creating it and the extra effort to integrate it into WP via wikilinks.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 02:56, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

With your vast wealth of musical knowledge could you state what types of drums commonly are used to make these cadences (snare drum I believe, but possibly also tom-tom drums). Am I correct with the WP:CAPTION linking to snare drum?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 13:51, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

Well, as a cadence expert, I would expect that you would do a better job at explaining the instrumentation than I. I was just suggesting that you do so because it is worth mentioning in the new article.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 16:00, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
Also, how are drum cadence and drum beat linked. It seems that the lead of each should mention the other or maybe we should merge the two? maybe they should have hatnotes if they are very different. Feel free to remove these files from drum beat and drum cadence from its template.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 13:59, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
Any chance you could work the terms Rhythm, Meter (music) and/or Pulse (music) into the text? What about {{Rhythm and meter}}?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 17:38, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

Mi Shebeirach target problem

I undid your link from Debbie Friedman because the target is not the correct meaning of this term. It looks like you added a lot of links to this new Mi Shebeirach redirect pointing to an article about a scale or musical mode. Could you please check them to make sure that is the intended meaning of the term in context? DMacks (talk) 08:21, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Still (or again) wrong. Yishtabach is a prayer of praise recited during standard morning prayers. Mi Shebeirach is a prayer for healing that is not tied to a particular daily-prayer ritual. The notable Friedman song is the latter. Maybe we need a DAB page at Mi Shebeirach to clarify the two separate meanings (the prayer or song with this actual name, vs the musical mode with this as a secondary name)? I could even see having Mi Shebeirach (song) or ...(prayer) as a redirect to Friedman's page, since the song itself is often mentioned in popular press. DMacks (talk) 15:17, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

A7 -- no indicia of notability.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Just wondering if you know the copyright status of the music? I believe it's public domain, at least in the US, since it was premiered in France in 1913, and first published for piano four hands that year, with the orchestral arrangement published in 1921. I'm wondering about this because I noticed that we have this excerpt (nearly duplicated on Commons here) marked PD-US, but this and this marked as copyrighted fair use files. cmadler (talk) 15:53, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

If my understanding is correct, US copyright on this was restored by URAA (upheld by the US Supreme Court yesterday), so The Rite of Spring is now under US copyright until 2041 (70pma) and so these excerpts are limited to fair use. I'm going to mark them as such; please correct me if I'm wrong. cmadler (talk) 18:47, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

As a non native speaker I am a bit lost. At performance art you changed the intro to „In art, performance art is a performance presented to an audience, traditionally interdisciplinary.” If not in art, where else is performance art presented to an audience? Do you think of theatre? And which tradition and interdisciplinarity are you talking about? Can you give an example here? Chords

Mel Bay, I've added the source. Some of them are used quite a lot in jazz. Minor ninth, minor sixth and augmented eleventh particularly, I use it all the time in pieces like Misty on both guitar and piano in E flat major to play a F minor ninth to the B flat thirteenth, and A flat minor 6th to the D flat Augmented 11th. I believe though that a 6/9 chord is the same as a So What chord. Usually the root, the major third, the dominant fifth, the sixth, the seventh and the ninth. Its also common in jazz to play say a G 7 Augmented 5th and augmented 9th known as a "seventh raised fifth raised ninth dominant chord" which progresses to the C major seventh. In fact that chord is used in the popular jazz standard Satin Doll.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:44, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

With regards to Tertian Seventh Chords

Hi Hyacinth! Hope I am doing this correctly, first time on a talk page.

According to the Wikipedia article on seventh chords it defines tertian chords as those made up of tones which are only a third apart (either Major or minor). When you take that into consideration then by definition there could logically only be eight types of Tertian 7th chords (chords containing 4 tones). Eg. If we were discussing Tertian dyads there could only be 2 types (minor and Major); Triads would yield the four we all know (diminished, minor, Major, and Augmented). Thus adding one more interval would result in a total of eight possibilities (ie. by adding a m3 or a M3 to each of the four triad types).

The eight possible Tertian 7th chords would thus be:

  1. the diminished 7th (m3, m3, m3)
  2. the half-diminished 7th (aka diminished-minor 7th) (m3, m3, M3)
  3. the minor 7th (m3, M3, m3)
  4. the minor-major 7th (m3, M3, M3)
  5. the Dominant 7th (aka Major-minor 7th) (M3, m3, m3)
  6. the Major 7th (M3, m3, M3)
  7. the Augmented Major 7th (M3, M3, m3) and,
  8. an augmented chord with octave of the root (M3, M3, M3)

Obviously the last possibility is not recognized as a 7th chord by most music theorists.

Where you are getting the idea of twelve possibilities comes from the traditional (and correct) procedure for identifying the qualities of a 7th chord: by a) the type of triad and b) the interval between root and 7th. This procedure yields 12 possibilities best pictured by a box chart with the 4 triad types for columns and 3 7th types as rows. Thus for each triad type (dim., m, M, Aug) there are three 7th intervals (dim, m, M; aug not considered as it is an octave). It is here where one can get the 12 theoretical types of 7th chords, only seven of which would also fall under the category of a "Tertian" 7th as well (those mentioned above). The 5 falling out of the Tertian category would be:

  1. the diminished-Major 7th (m3, m3, P4)
  2. the minor-diminished 7th (m3, M3, M2)
  3. the Major-diminished 7th (M3, m3, M2)
  4. the Augmented-diminished 7th (M3, M3, m2) and,
  5. the Augmented-minor 7th (M3, M3, M2)

Hopefully this clears up any confusion on the theoretical number of Tertian 7th chords as well as shines some light on where the number 12 actually originates from. I hope this is helpful to you and I would like to thank you for the enormous contributions you have made to the Wikipedia. If my logic is in error, or if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to either write to my talk page or you can email me directly at asafamiliar@yahoo.com Thank you again. Tertian Chords

Hi again! Got your last message regarding dim and Aug 3rds but as I understand it, "Tertian" chords by definition do not include these. Tertian only allows for m3 and M3 intervals. Bambamskull (talk) 07:22, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

I read Tertian as per your suggestion and it stated that it refers to thirds and discusses primarily minor and Major 3rds. On the Seventh Chords Article, the sentence before the statement in question reads "tertian, constructed using a sequence of major thirds (spanning 4 semitones) and/or minor thirds (3 semitones)". There is no mention of Aug 3rds (spanning 5 semitones) or dim 3rds (2 semitones). If Aug and Dim 3rds (M2 and P4, respectively) are to be counted as also falling under the category of "Tertian" then the preceeding statement needs to be changed to reflect that. I'd also like to see citation of dim and aug 3rds falling under the heading of "Tertian". Furthermore, if M2's and P4's are to be included then the number of possibilities does not merely jump to 12 but rather to 64 (three intervals, each of which can be one of four types, thus 43 possibilities. When mapped out, 4 can be removed as 4 identical pairs exist, and a further 10 can be removed as they contain octaves and can thus be viewed as triads. This leaves a total of 50 possibilities for 4-note chords formed by using dim 3rds, m 3rds, M 3rds, and Aug 3rds. Bambamskull (talk) 09:13, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

I also meant to mention see Chord (music) Under the section "Secundal, tertian, and quartal chords" it states "Any such chord that can be decomposed into a series of (major or minor) thirds is called a tertian chord." Hopefully this clears up the confusion. Bambamskull (talk) 09:30, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi, How are you doing?
I was wondering if you could help me. I'm a wikipedian in wikifa (persian wikipedia). there we've got some problems with the managers, they made the rules in order that no one can change them or no one can add new manager to their team. they do not let the others to change them by voting or ... Do you know any higher level for changing the inappropriate managers of other wikis? Our managers rarely come to wiki and those who come and work are some 18 years old boys that in some fields they realy don't know what is right or wrong
Thanks alot.--Rmashhadi (talk) 17:34, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Chromatic mediant article

The Tchaikovsky example on the Chromatic mediant article is not an example of root motion. Please note that the F in the bass carries through the chord change to Db, and becomes the third of that chord. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Composerjude (talkcontribs) 05:32, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

File:All-interval tetrachords.png suspected minor error

Hi,

In learning about All-interval tetrachords, I studied your chords in this image, and I think that in the first chord, the F should be an E. Am I right on that? Thanks for your all your contributions.

Cheers,

-LetMeLookItUp 04:45, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Hello,

I noticed the same thing. The F in the [0,1,4,6] tetrachord should be an E. Starvinsky (talk) 14:11, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

Signatures, Augmentation and the "Hendrix Chord"

Greetings!

I appreciated your reminder about signatures. I normally do that, but must have simply forgotten on the Talk:Augmented seventh chord page. I have a question for you about a recent edit of yours on the on the Augmentation (music) article. I left the question on the Talk:Augmentation (music) page. I'm looking forward to your response.

Cheers,

Error in File:SixBasicChordsInCMajor.PNG

Your update of File:SixBasicChordsInCMajor.PNG labels the e minor iii chord as a V chord. I too prefer the lower-case-as-minor notation, but the error thus introduced unfortunately overshadows the improvement. --Morenus (talk) 21:37, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

File:SixBasicChordsInCMajor.PNG needs authorship information.

Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:SixBasicChordsInCMajor.PNG appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided),authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which:{{subst:usernameexpand|Hyacinth/January 19 2011 - February 5 2012}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.
  • If this is an old image, for which the authorship is unknown or impossible to determine, please indicate this on the file description page.
If you have any questions please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 18:50, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Other Minds and similar stuff

Hello Hyacinth,

Thank you for creating the article and link to the Other Minds page. I see that you have a rabid interest in music as do I.

I volunteer for Other Minds and one of the projects I have taken on is the development of their wiki page and any related pages. I created a page for their associate director Adam Fong. And I would like to create pages and/or develop pages for the composers who are going to appear at the 2012 concerts of OM 17 and would appreciate any input or assistance from you. Have you ever attended?

Anyway I am just excited to have someone else actually finding this stuff interesting. You can check out my page and contributions to get a sense of my wide-ranging interests. I am a registered nurse by profession (so I have an understanding and sympathy for the difficulties of living with epilepsy) but my interests go pretty far afield.

I look forward to more collaboration with you.

Moving files to Commons

Hi! I was thinking of moving all of your files with a free license to Commons. But I have a question. In many cases there is information about the composer and when (s)he died. But I noticed that it is not the case with File:The Seeds of Love repetition.png. Perhaps you could help me by adding some info? If you have any way of finding similar files (files without an author) it would alse be a super great help if you could look at those. Cheers. --MGA73 (talk) 17:27, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

File:Major triad on C.mid needs authorship information.

Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Major triad on C.mid appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 22:22, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
File:Minor triad inversions A.mid and File:Just minor triad on C.mid also lack an author. I suppose you made them yourself, but it feels safer to ask. --Stefan2 (talk) 22:24, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi. In Sonata for Microtonal Piano (Ben Johnston), you recently added links to the disambiguation pages Finale and Third (music) (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. For more information, see the FAQ or drop a line at the DPL WikiProject.

Error in File:Bartok - Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta interval expansion.png

Hello! I just wanted to tell you that on the score file you have created for Music for Strings..., the second note of the first expansion should be a B flat, not a B. I do not have the score, however I trust my ears and they tell me it is quite clearly a minor second :) Cheers, and thanks for the very good work. Music for Strings... is one of my all-time favorite works. Sincerely, --Numero4 (talk) 15:39, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Thank you

What you did by fixing the file is diligence at its best. In the name of common knowledge: thank you for your work :) Sincerely, --Numero4 (talk) 17:00, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Your image for the Bohlen-Pierce chord on the corresponding article is incorrect. The chord is C G A. You have it written C G C, the very thing the scale is trying to avoid. So fix it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Me144 (talkcontribs) 22:47, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Rondellus (ensemble), and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Rondellus. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 18:19, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on Rondellus (ensemble) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about it should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you can assert the importance of the subject, . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the article's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

See the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. — 71.166.157.61 (talk) 18:30, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

The article NoveList Plus has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of notability

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi, thanks for making that Monteverdi example. I just noticed that in the version shown there is a rather surprising instance of parallel fifths between the first and third voice in the progression from bar 1 to bar 2. Are you sure this is correct? In this [1] edition and another I have here in front of me, voice 3 has a D instead of a B flat at that point (bar 6 and identically bar 32), which certainly makes more sense counterpoint-wise. Fut.Perf. 10:27, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Image is correct. D wouldn't make sense in that B is an upper leading-tone to A and the second voice already has D. Hyacinth (talk) 01:56, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. But I'm afraid I must disagree still. The duplication of D is of course no problem in terms of counterpoint, and much more crucially, any leading-tone quality of the B is overridden by the fact that it would be covered by the illicit parallel. You don't get leading-tone progressions in parallel fifths – or, in this case, indeed, in a parallel motion of the whole triad (F,D,B → E,C,A).
In any case, of course, apart from our personal judgments of the counterpoint, what do the sources say? In addition to the two editions I mentioned yesterday, all the ones accessible on CPDL [2] and on Werner Icking Archive [3] as well as several others found on the web also have D. Paul Agnew in the Consort of Musicke recording under Anthony Rooley also seems to be singing D. Can I ask what your source is? Fut.Perf. 09:09, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
No need, simply go to the pages on which it is used. (Benward & Saker (2003), p.201.) Hyacinth (talk) 03:05, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
Hmm, well, but that still leaves us with the fact that the illustrative snippet in that book seems to contradict all the independent sources from editions of the actual music (plus violate basic counterpoint rules). Which of these sources are less likely to be mistaken? I'd go with the editions, obviously. Fut.Perf. 08:30, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Thank You!

Thanks for your Message about the Fantasy No. 1 with Fugue (Mozart), I certainly wouldn't have realised the mistake myself. It's the picture that's wrong, so i'll change that as soon as possible.

Dominant seventh chord problem

I saw what you wrote at Talk:Dominant seventh chord. Can you respond?? Georgia guy (talk) 00:08, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I am currently working on L'Arianna, to which you recently added the above music notation example. That's great. I haven't got down to the section on the lament; when I do so, please feel free to contribute. The image's licence at the moment is PD-old, which I do not think is correct; the file is your creation - the fact that the music was written 400 years ago is not relevant here. Assuming you wish the file to be freely used, I propose to change the licence to one of the following:-

If you would prefer a different licence from those I've suggested, that's fine, but perhaps you'd let me know. Brianboulton (talk) 19:49, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

I have replied to your reply on my talkpage, so as not to fracture the conversation. Brianboulton (talk) 20:41, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Seconded. They're going to get moved over eventually, since you don't state that you have an objection to the files being on Commons, so all that this is doing is creating a lot more work for a group of users that already have 300,000 files to move to Commons. Suite for Microtonal Piano

Hey, thank you so much for adding the image of the chromatic scale of the Ben Johnston suite. It's extremely helpful. I noticed an error in the article which omits mentioning the 11th partial as one of the tones of the scale. I saw that your image of the scale also didn't have it mentioned, and that it was one note short of an octave (F# is missing, which is where the 11:8 tone would go). I don't have the software to edit the image, so I thought I'd mention it to you. Thanks again for creating it in the first place. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.229.186.165 (talk) 09:04, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
