Updating list of municipalities with the corrections?

Hello, I was wondering if there is any reason for me to wait before updating the list of municipalities with the new corrections? Will more corrections be coming, since I don't want to redo all the totals only to make a change again in the future. I was going to add this code as we did before. Thanks for your input! Mattximus (talk) 16:35, 8 January 2023 (UTC)

For the 2016 census, the final wave of amendments was published 16 months after the first major release of the census data (population and dwelling counts) were published. I expect around the same timing for the final wave of this census as the deadline to submit a request to review results passed only 12 days ago. I have been involved in four review requests so far of which two were submitted by the municipalities just under the wire and another about three months ago. No news on the outcome of the one submitted three months ago yet. Anyway, it is a bit of a pain in the ass to adjust the totals after every release. Might be less exhaustive to do all once the final wave subsides. Can’t recall if I already done a pass after the first or second wave. Hwy43 (talk) 07:30, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
Ok I thought that might be the case, I'm happy to help when the final corrections come out! Thanks for your reply! Mattximus (talk) 15:30, 15 January 2023 (UTC)

New Brunswick local governance reform

Guess who's back butchering the pages again? He's seen fit to delink pages until he's had the chance to make sure they've been updated to his satisfaction. Seriously, that's his stated rationale in the edit summaries. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 04:21, 11 January 2023 (UTC)

I don’t understand. In the meantime, I am seeing your additions to a couple articles on my watchlist. Many of these additions aren’t referenced, some of which are conclusions you’ve drawn based on personal research. This is problematic, especially for the article that has featured list status.

With respect to 2023 New Brunswick local governance reform, is it necessary to inject “of the parish” to all LSDs in the table? Such adds no value at the expense of increasing the page size, widening the table, forcing content onto second lines in the final column, and creating unnecessary redundancy.

Frankly, to minimize text and redundancy, I would like to see all instances follow the format of “Portion of the LSD of Foo” except the first instance that would instead use “Portion of the local service district (LSD) of Foo” in order to properly introduce the acronym. I may have other comments as I review other edits captured in my watchlist. Cheers, Hwy43 (talk) 07:10, 12 January 2023 (UTC)

Sorry; I was, as ever, frustrated with Cornellier's butchery of pages based on one or two datapoints and a whole lot of extrapolation. The arrogance of deciding he should delink cities from the list until he could check whether their pages had been updated to his satisfaction...
Here's my jumbled explanation of what's happened with the LSDs.
  • Local service districts were defined by Regulation 84-168, which is where all that "the parish of" wording comes from. It looks like the white paper may have taken the names from the corresponding taxing authorities – which overlapped the LSDs but followed different boundaries – but some of the misspellings and name errors are its own.
  • Where the white paper listed n% of an LSD would be annexed by a municipality, it was that percentage of the population, not the land area. Just to add to any confusion.
  • After the release of the white paper, the province made numerous changes, some small, some great. It didn't release an updated list directly comparable to the white paper.
  • The updated regulation defining municipalities didn't mention any LSDs by name, using its usual wording of "[c]ertain unincorporated areas contiguous to 'x are annexed to x". Utterly useless for comparison using text.
  • The only way to be sure of all the changes is to compare initial proposed maps with final maps. I don't think this comparison falls under the spirit of original research. (Forgot that there was a page and that I already worked it in months ago; insomnia is such a joy)
I don't think it's granular to indicate that the list hasn't been updated properly since the final boundaries were released; YMMV. EDIT: I went ahead and abbreviated the parish names; "the portion of" could be changed to "(part)" when I have time to whip up a macro.
Reading this stuff the first time the government issues documents or press releases is easy. Finding citable mentions of some of it later isn't one of my talents; I know they announced that communities would keep their names for postal delivery and 911 services but can I find that easily? Nope. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 08:44, 12 January 2023 (UTC)

I'll hold off wikilinking all the LSDs until you're done. Since you're moving along quickly, I'll point out here that Local service district links should be to Local service district (New Brunswick) rather than mistiming fixing it myself. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 00:21, 15 January 2023 (UTC)

I see that you are editing Heron Bay, new Brunswick. I am the person who submitted the name for this new municipality. my name was chosen in May 2022 and came into affect January 1st, 2023. I'm waiting for the province to announce that I was the person who's name was chosen. anyhow, can I put it in the article that I am indeed the person whose name was chosen. I've lived in Dalhousie for almost all of my 40 years. Cliffdimerandy (talk) 12:22, 16 January 2023 (UTC)

What a neat honour. In order to include this fact in the article, we will need a reliable source to support it. Has there been any local news coverage that has reported on the story? Hwy43 (talk) 02:36, 17 January 2023 (UTC)

well as far as I know right now, there is more likely going to be a statement saying I'm the one who submitted the new name. the new council I believe is going to recognize me in some way.. so idk if it's going to be a web link or just as part of a council meeting where it will be written down for history purposes you could say....if there's no web link and I just have documents can that be used to show proof that I am the person? Cliffdimerandy (talk) 13:46, 17 January 2023 (UTC)

Documents that are not publicly accessible aren't sufficient. A published news release, a published council meeting agenda, or published council meeting minutes would do the trick. It sounds like one of those three will eventually occur. Just have to be patient. Hwy43 (talk) 00:06, 23 January 2023 (UTC)

hello

I see that you started the Heron Bay page on here, I just wanted to say that the name Heron Bay was the name I submitted for the new town. I was honored June 4th along with the person who created the new logo. I'd like to put that on the Heron Bay page. I don't have newspaper links as u have to pay for them. my wife however saved them and I have the headline photo of myself, the mayor and the logo creators mother. in the picture, it says I was the submitter. can u tell me how I can put the picture there? the newspaper prints on Friday and I believe it's going to be the front page....anyhow, can you tell me how to add a picture? there's no link yet that I can refer too but I have the picture.

I just realized we spoke about this months ago, I'm not sure how to navigate wikipedia yet....I'd like to point out that the map of the province of New Brunswick has Heron Bay on that map but its in Quebec. thanks Cliffdimerandy (talk) 18:35, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

Please email me by clicking this link. When I reply, I will provide you an email address. On Friday, after the hard copy of the newspaper finds its way into your hands, you can take a photo(s) of the article using your smart phone or tablet and can then email the photo(s) to me. Be sure the photo(s) includes the title, author, and date of the article and confirms the source newspaper. Hwy43 (talk) 02:24, 7 June 2023 (UTC)
hello, I'm not sure if the email link you gave me to send u the documents I have showing I'm the author of the name Heron Bay. I have the newspaper article. I'd add it to the Heron Bay NB page but I'm not sure how to do it...thanks Cliffdimerandy (talk) 09:55, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
sorry to bother you, but are you going to put it on Heron bays page the stuff I emailed you about me being the person who's name they chose?? u said u had what you needed, if I can figure it out myself I will just go ahead and do it Cliffdimerandy (talk) 12:45, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
I will get to it. Being pulled in too many directions outside of this hobby. Hwy43 (talk) 07:53, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
ok, I appreciate the reply
thank u Cliffdimerandy (talk) 19:29, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
Done, including coordinates fix. I used Dalhousie's coordinates. Hwy43 (talk) 18:35, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
yes I noticed that. thanks for doing the update of Heron Bay!! Cliffdimerandy (talk) 23:35, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
am I allowed to paste the link to the Heron Bay page onto my personal place? like under my description? the wikipedia link?
thanks Cliffdimerandy (talk) 23:39, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
By personal place do you mean User:Cliffdimerandy? Yes, by all means. Here is the direct code: [[Heron Bay, New Brunswick#History]]. Hwy43 (talk) 08:06, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
hi. sorry for bugging you, but I'm not sure what u mean about the direct code.
where do I paste the direct code?
thanks again Cliffdimerandy (talk) 15:15, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
Disregard. If you need any assistance with pasting "the link to the Heron Bay page onto your personal place", please visit the WP:TEAHOUSE for assistance. The group there is very helpful to newcomers. In the meantime, I am going to consolidate this thread with your original thread from earlier this year for the purpose of future archiving. Take care, Hwy43 (talk) 04:40, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

HI, I saw where you edited Beresford dropping alot of information. I think it needs to be restored really to show the history prior to the reforms of government. Beresford as a town disappear but for 911 and postal addresses its still in use. Rather then undo your changes, I thought I would chat first for common ground. Harry12555 (talk) 15:46, 7 February 2023 (UTC)

It appears you are referring to Beresford, New Brunswick. I did not drop information. Instead, I moved content into proper sections per WP:CCSG. Please look at the article’s history more carefully to determine who deleted the content in question. Then, I suggest you start a thread on the article’s talk page so that all article watchers can participate if interested rather than taking things to user talk pages where interested article watchers will have no idea edits to the subject article are being discussed. In fact, you may very well find an existing thread on that talk page about the information in question that had been dropped (or moved to a different article). Maple Creek, Saskatchewan

Hello. I was looking on the page information tab for Maple Creek, Saskatchewan and I noticed the "central description" says, "a place where no one likes but they have to live here because there is no where else for them and it is easy for them to get a job." I tried to figure out how to change that or how that is determined and I was at a loss. Any ideas? Masterhatch (talk) 11:05, 22 February 2023 (UTC)

Vandalism on the article’s equivalent at Wikidata. I have reverted it. Hwy43 (talk) 05:35, 24 February 2023 (UTC)

Hiya, please have a look at my talk entry on Valley Waters re: Villages, villages, challenges in regional kinds of local gov't jurisdictions. Thanks. Spooninpot (talk) 16:19, 25 March 2023 (UTC)

My reply at Talk:Valley Waters#Awkward NB Village applies to this as well. Please keep discussion there moving forward so that this isn’t in three or more places. In the meantime, please review MOS:GEOUNITS as it relates to capitalization of municipal statuses, which are not proper nouns unless being used within official legal names. If you look at NB’s enabling legislation, municipal status types are lowercased. Wikipedia and provincial legislation are consistent. I had to go through the same learning curve when I started on Wikipedia about 13 years ago. Hwy43 (talk) 10:43, 29 March 2023 (UTC)

Local government count in List of municipalities in New Brunswick

Reverting is going overboard on this one. It's a simple matter of going to 2023 New Brunswick local governance reform and counting each type listed in Status. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 05:50, 30 March 2023 (UTC)

No it isn’t going overboard. Wikipedia can not be used as a source and you didn’t transfer the source from the other article to support it. You know this. I am in the process of doing what should have been done. Hwy43 (talk) 05:53, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
No, I don't "know this". I entered all those Status entries directly from the Regulation that describes them and figured a simple count of the information was sufficient. If I'd cited it as a manual count from the Regulation, would that have sufficed? G. Timothy Walton (talk) 06:00, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
You have been around basically as long as me. Surely you know WP:V and WP:RS, as well as WP:BURDEN associated with the former and presumably WP:NOTSOURCE. Citing the regulation is exactly what was required. Copying pre-existing refs from the other article and doing this is easy. Hwy43 (talk) 06:21, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
Apparently so. Yes, this should have been done before but it seemed like somebody else was doing it and I moved on to other things. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 06:11, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
I appreciate your efforts to update the list article. Doing it properly, especially on one with FL status, is an expectation of the community. If no supporting references accompany an addition to an FL, its status is undermined, as is the effort of those that got it to that status. I recognize I am being a bit of a hard ass on this article, but that is because it is an FL. I believe elsewhere I am softer by applying citation needed tags, or even charitable despite WP:BURDEN by doing it for the editor that forgets to or omits a supporting reference. Now I think you posted something on the talk page of the FL article. I am done for the night. Will return hopefully tomorrow to respond to that. Hwy43 (talk) 06:29, 30 March 2023 (UTC)

New Brunswick categories

A compatriot of Spooninpot, possible him using another name (Placeographer77) has decided that the categories for former municipalities in New Brunswick are useless clutter. The MO, language, and behaviour certainly seem like the same user. Here's a sample: Alma revert of a revert. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 04:06, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

My mistake. No doubt whatsoever that it's the same user with a second username. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 04:08, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
I’m interested in this conversation, somehow. Not sure if its by your benevolence hwygtw or? Spooninpot (talk) 00:57, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

I took your advice

WP:SPI opened for Spooninpot/Placeographer77. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 04:48, 6 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello, just wondering what you think of the changes to this article, I prefer the older version which was used in the promotion to FL. This new version seems pretty... sparse? Thanks! Mattximus (talk) 18:10, 1 September 2023 (UTC)

I have only gone back to the start of 2023. In my view these are bold edits to delete and consolidate content within an article with FL status. In future, you don't need to bring these to my attention. While you are not lobbying, it could be perceived as such. Feel free to do the reverts yourself in future. If I am the only one reverting these things, it appears like I am imposing ownership when in fact it is about everything learned across 13 successful FL nominations over more than a decade. Hwy43 (talk) 00:14, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't intend to lobby, I wanted to defer to your expertise in the subject. I won't bring these to your attention again. Mattximus (talk) 19:25, 2 September 2023 (UTC)

Alberta municipal affairs pages

On List of hamlets in Alberta, I changed a broken link from the Alberta Municipal Affairs website to the corresponding page at Alberta.ca, https://www.alberta.ca/types-of-municipalities-in-alberta You don't need to do anything, but I wanted to let you know that some Alberta government pages that are used as a reference in articles about Alberta municipalities have been moved. 2023 New Brunswick local governance reform

Hi, Hwy43.

I've been contacted by a consultant on the governance reforms, who's recommended hyperlinks that would open maps for each new municipality. It's a bit above my skill level, and I don't know if it's appropriate to Wikipedia. What do you think?

He gave me permission to discuss it with you, so I can block quote his ideas if you like. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 02:11, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
