Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Hungarian David Biro. All or some of your addition(s) to Ilka Gedő have been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 00:46, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
Sorry but we don't write Wikipedia articles as a series of quotations. Out non-free content policy doesn't permit it. You need to write the article in your own words. Please don't copy any more material to this wiki.
I have also removed material copied from this website. If you are the copyright holder and wish to release this material to Wikipedia under license, please see the instructions at WP:Donating copyrighted materials. There's a sample permission email at WP:Consent. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:11, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
Please don't copy material from elsewhere online

Yes, even that timeline is covered by copyright. See WP:Donating copyrighted content on how to release it under a free license if you so intend. Regarding the rest of your complaint, to me it seems your conflict of interest is too strong to neutrally assess the significance of this artist. Huon (talk) 23:57, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
Dear Dianna,
I returned to a previously approved page with which there were no problems and this modified page was created by the personn who blocked me, by you, Dianna. The timeline I restored is not under copyright, these are facts concerning the life of Ilka Gedo. I am not writing articles for wikipedia, neither do I intend to write any more articles. I am interested in Ilka Gedő because I am the artist's son. As a result of your changes a largely inaccurate picture results, terrible damage is done to the reputation of my mother.
I am ready to ask for the release of the copyright of the book you referred to. But the problem is that I myself am the copyright holder. How can I ask for the release of the copyright of something I myself wrote. Let us work on ways to improve this page. I think the masters/teachers of the artist could and should be answered by name. I think the part on the double isolation does not belong to the initial chapter, the "Early and life and training", what you did there is simply a gross mis-representation of facts. The shortened wikipedia article does not reflect the significance of this artist.

Hi David Levy,
Originally, I wanted to improve the English Wiki article on Ilka Gedő. I call the original contents of this article Version A. I did so, and as a result of my effort, a new version of the Wiki article was born (for the sake of clarity I call it version B.). Admin Dennaa deleted the quotes from the article telling me that the size of quotations must not exceed a certain percentage. Thus was born version C. I rewrote version C partly relying on a copyrighted memoir written by me http://mek.oszk.hu/07400/07416/ . I thought I would not have any problems as I am the writer and the copyright holder of the above-mentioned material. Thus was born version (PARTS TAKEN OVER FROM MY WORK ARE IN BOLD.) I was wrong. Dennaa deleted nearly the complete article including a fine selection of drawings in various major museums of the world ranging from the Met through the Kupferstichkabinett (Berlin) up to the British Museum. I thought I have the right to restore at least the timeline so that the article contains at least a minimum amount of info on the artist. I was wrong the timeline was also deleted, because its contents written by me were alleged to have been created in violation of copyright. I am now blocked from editing in Wiki. Dennaa blocked me indefinitely. I would like to release the copyright for Wikipedia of the above-mentioned memoir (http://mek.oszk.hu/07400/07416/ ) so that in the long run I can restore the article. I have already sent a request in this regard Is. The receipt of this communication was confirmed under the reference number Ticket#2017030410000259 . I try to interpret copyright regulations of Wiki, but as I am not a lawyer, I don't really know how I should interpret the regulations. I would like to release the copyright for Wikipedia of the above-mentioned and the above-linked memoir so that in the long run I can restore the article into. I try to interpret copyright regulations of Wiki, but as I am not a lawyer, I don't really know how I should interpret, e.g. this: I am not an experienced writer of Wiki article., so please help me sort out the problems. I mean no harm but I think Ilka Gedő deserves a much better Wiki article than can be found on Wiki right now.
Sincerely yours, Hungarian David Biro

- Hi David Biro. I have removed the copy of the article that you posted here on your talk page. Since the permission email has not yet been processed (and this might not happen for quite a while, since the current backlog is 158 days), we should not be hosting this potentially copyright material on this wiki. I am prepared to unblock your account if you promise to stop re-adding the material to the article and wait for the OTRS team to process your email and give the okay. A second problem is conflict of interest. While we welcome most contributions to the encyclopedia, people are asked not to edit articles where they have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject. Since you are the artist's son, you have a conflict of interest, and should not be editing this article at all. All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. There's more information on this topic at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 19:41, 12 March 2017 (UTC)
Dear Diannaa
OK. I am prepared and I promise to stop re-adding the copyrighted material until such time as OTRS response team gives the okay to my request, although I don't know why you ask me to do so, as I don't write other English wikis anyway. As a gesture of goodwill and in return I think it would be nice to unblock me. The questions still remains what happens if my copyright release request is rejected, then the article remains in its current inadequate form. I will have to wait for half a year anyway until the minimum amount of info is readable on the Wikipedia.
Concerning the conflict of interest I inform you: I sought a way out of this situation by using quotes on the artist, but this was not possible either because, as you said, rightly, the length of quotations must not exceed a certain percent of the length of the total article.
Supposing I get a positive reply from the OTRS response team, and I really don't know whether this will be case, can I hope that the article will be allowed to return to the pre-block stage?
There are four groups of drawings:
(1) Juvenilia (2) Ghetto Drawings (3) Self-Portraits (4) Ganz Factory Drawings (5) The Table Series
I ask you to copy back the images of these four groups drawings. I say four groups because images belonging to group (1) were not deleted. As I have already released their copyright in Wikipedia Commons, this could be possible, I suppose. As the artist's works are in the best museums of the world, I think it would not fall under the category of writing in an excessively flattering way to present examples of her works by topics.
As the timeline contains facts it would be good if it could be restored now. Events for the years 2014 up to and including 2016 could be left out, as there is reference to a group exhibition and reference to acquisitions by the MET and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. These latter two items are mentioned in the section titled Works in Public Collections.
With kind regards,
Hungarian David Biro (talk) 00:28, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
- I have now unblocked your account. The old versions of the page are still available in the page history and will be restored once the OTRS ticket is processed. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 11:57, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
