advice on deletion
[edit]As someone with 8 years of experience in deletion processes here, I'm glad to have another person joining in screening articles. The decision process is more complicated than it may seem. Deletion is the last resort., and speedy deletion criteria are interpreted narrowly and literally, with the bias towards keeping articles. For A7, the subject does not have to be notable, or even make a claim to notability in the sense we use it. If there is any indication of possible importance or significance, even locally, such that a person acting in good faith might think it should have an encyclopedia article, it's not a speedyNew America Funding is an example. The Inc 5000 list is not proof of notability by a long shot, but it is ean indication of plausible importance.
Encountering such an article, it can be nominated for WP:PROD, but in this case it is fairly certain the Prod will be removed. That leaves AfD. I'm going to nominate it for AfD--see my arguments at the discussion. It is very likely to be deleted there, but not always, AfD can be somewhat inconsistent and unpredictable. I find it helpful to re-read WP:Deletion process and WP:CSD every few months to make sure I'm staying in line with the community; now that you're beginning, you should study them thoroughly. A good deal of it however, is how things are applied in practice, and first observing and then participating at AfD discussions and Deletion Reviews is the way to find out--and also see the many archived discussions at WT:CSD . If you have nay questions, nowor ever, please ask me on my user talk page. DGG ( talk ) 16:10, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
