- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- Tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place helpme
on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!
I am willing to adopt you, if you so wish. Leave me a message on my talk page. Note that on Wikipedia, each article has a talk page; similarly, each user has one. This page is your talk page. I don't mean to sound patronising, but it took me three months to figure it out :-) The Duke of Copyeditting, Bow before me! You can't control me! I'm a P. I.! 11:22, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Whoops-sorry!
[edit]Accidentally deleted it, I thought I was only deleting section 9! (oh, and by the way, someone had better remove it. -HuBmaN!!!! 14:31, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
Greetings
[edit]OK... the standard thing for people to do for a new user is:
Adopt message
[edit]Hello, HubmaN! I see that you have expressed an interest in being adopted by an experienced editor. I accept your request, being an experienced editor myself. Whether you want to learn about wiki markup, find something to do, or just talk to somebody, I'm the one you can talk to - just leave a message on my talk page. Good luck with Wikipedia! --The Great Llama (now on editor review!) 21:26, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Re: Hey!
[edit]No problem! Well, I guess I should start by saying: Do you have any questions about Wikipedia, editing, etc.? I'm assuming you do, since you wanted to be adopted in adopt-a-user. If so, feel free to ask them on my talk page! —The Great Llama talk 20:51, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
Re: Well, here comes my first question...
[edit]If you want to get an article created, but don't know exactly how to write it, you can request it at Wikipedia:Articles for creation. And don't forget to sign your comments! —The Great Llama talk 21:28, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi!
[edit]Well, how are you? —The Great Llama moo? 17:03, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
- Well, you have to upload an image to Wikipedia in order to insert it in the article, so it doesn't have to be from Wikimedia Commons. To upload an image, I suggest you first read the image tutorial. After that, either search for "Special:Upload" or click "Upload file" in the toolbox on the left side of the screen, and follow the instructions to upload an image. Some images are fair use, which means they are screenshots of a movie or video game, movie poster, magazine etc., and can only be used in the article namespace in articles relevent to an image. To insert an image in an article, simply put . If you want it to be a certain size or have a caption, type . It doesn't matter what order you put the "thumb" and "(number)px", but the caption must come last. If you want to link to an image without showing an image, put a colon before the image name (:Image:Image.extension). — The Great Llamamoo? 14:57, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, it was really confusing to me at first, too. Feel free to ask me any questions about it. —The Great Llamamoo? 04:09, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Re: Wow, another question by me!
[edit]You can make templates simply by creating a page called "Template:Whatever". To put its content on a page, type either whatever
or
(though the former is more commonly used). However, to put another page's content on a page, you don't have to use something in the template namespace; you can transclude any namespace (I don't know how to transclude the mainspace yet, but there's probably a way). To make a template to put on your userpage, create a page called User:HubmaN/Whatever
(replace the "Whatever" with the title you want to use) and put
on your userpage. Read more at Wikipedia:Templates! Excamation marks rule! –The Great Llamasign here 17:38, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Re: Why didn't I ask this earlier?
[edit]Yes, exclamation marks rule! Anyway, read Help:Namespace for an exclamation of what namespaces are (if you still have questions about them, feel free to ask me, blah blah blah). –Llama man 21:24, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

- Well, thank you-but I'd prefer to work in english. No offense here, but I find myself to be more "poetic" in english (and I have to hunt and peck anyway). I accept bribes-hehe!-though (hehehehe!). (BTW, Thai breaks anything running under Darwine.) But you never know. I may appear!

Request to participate in University of Washington survey on tool to quickly understand Wikipedians’ reputations
[edit]Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington. In April, we met with Wikipedians to learn what they would like to know about other editors’ history and activities (within Wikipedia) when interacting with them on talk pages. The goal was to gather feedback to help design a tool that could quickly communicate useful information about other Wikipedians. We have now created a few images that we feel represent some of what our participants thought was important. We would appreciate it if you took a few minutes of your time to complete an online survey that investigates whether or not these images would be useful to you. Your quick contribution would be very valuable to our research group and ultimately to Wikipedia. (When finished, the code for this application will be given over to the Wikipedia community to use and/or adjust as they see fit.)
We are particularly interested in feedback from new editors! We want to make sure this tool meets your needs.
Willing to spend a few minutes taking our survey? Click this link.
Please feel free to share the link with other Wikipedians. The more feedback, the better! The survey is completely anonymous and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. All data is used for university research purposes only.
Thank you for your time! If you have any questions about our research or research group, please visit our user page. Commprac01 (talk) 23:07, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
