thanks. I'm still learning

Should this not be AfD, do you reckon? The article is of no credit to Wikipedia, to my mind. --80.192.1.168 (talk) 18:33, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Big Ears, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and read the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you.  Hamza  [ talk ] 19:21, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WTF? I reverted some unexplained blanking of apparently legitimate material, and said so in the edit summary. You may want to take another look at the article history. Hqb (talk) 19:33, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My articles

[edit]

Why the sudden flurry of trying to delete the articles I created? Not fair is it! Play nicely please. Claireislovely (talk) 20:56, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Simply a response to your sudden flurry of reposting previously deleted material. Please address the concerns raised at the AfD discussion before recreating any articles on "Taakatism". Thanks, Hqb (talk) 21:19, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

could this user be a bot, or someone purposely creating unnecessary articles? --Abb615 (talk) 13:15, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nah. Most likely, just an overenthusiastic elementary-school student creating articles about herself, her family and her school. Wouldn't want to bite her too hard, but she's unlikely to contribute meaningfully in the near term. Hqb (talk) 13:18, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
heh, i never seen that article yet, also i just joined wikipedia about a couple weeks ago --Abb615 (talk) 13:21, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Greenspan/QD change

[edit]

It's still not acceptable to create an article about yourself? I tagged it the way I did because it was created by Dgreenspan Purplebackpack89 (Notes Taken) (Locker) 20:07, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Creating an article about oneself is strongly discouraged, but there's no absolute policy against it, nor is it a valid speedy deletion criterion. However, a self-authored article can often be deleted under the A7 (non-notability) and/or G11 (promotion) criteria. Hqb (talk) 20:28, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Thanks for fixing my typo in the birth year category on the above, but I was wondering why you added English nationality? There's nothing in the article to support it. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:56, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. I actually didn't mean to suggest citizenship, just make it clearer that he played for an English club, to help put the article in context. But it could indeed be misunderstood, so I've reverted myself. Sorry! Hqb (talk) 13:39, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, and I see your point... I wasn't keen on just putting "is a footballer", though even "British" would be an assumption, but I tend to assume "the Football League" gives context, and perhaps it doesn't. Maybe if it read "was a professional association footballer", at least we'd know what game we're on about... In fact, he's almost certainly Scottish. He first played for a Dumfries-based club, the 1891 census has a John Irving of about the right age from Dumfries living in Lincoln with two Scottish lodgers whose names coincide with two of Irving's Lincoln City teammates, but unfortunately their occupations are given as "real" jobs rather than footballer. Which is fair enough, Lincoln didn't turn pro until 1891/2, but no doubt it's original research to deduce that one year's power loom turner and engine fitter are the next year's pro footballers... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:03, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help

[edit]

I didn't get your point. So what can I delete off my talk page? Warnings or Deleted Pages? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mydomainwiki100 (talkcontribs) 13:28, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So new to this I couldnt figure out how to reach you. Wondering...i edited Pitcher Park Memorial Skate Park what do you think of the new editing? I am not sure how to add citations as when I move around here it is confusing to me. When will I know if they accept it? and What if it isnt accepted how can i change it so it will be? I hope if you reply I can even find out where the reply is.

Benjamin Dean Meritt article

[edit]

Thanks for setting up the references in the wrong Wikipedia format on the article I created for Benjamin Dean Meritt, while I was looking up information for his entry. I hope you are not an admin, as you should know the basics of how this is traditionally done...Stevenmitchell (talk) 20:25, 22 May 2010 (UTC):[reply]

No need for sarcasm. I found the article as an unwikified mess, with no references whatsoever, and no indication that you were coming back to it in the foreseeable future. I left it in a much better state, with at least two reliable sources supporting the information already there, and suitable for building the article further. Yet you find it most appropriate to tell me off for not getting around to also do detailed footnoting? Fine, whatever. Hqb (talk) 21:45, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer permission

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 19:56, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That edit was in response to something said in the FAC, for the record. Don't really agree with it myself, either. Courcelles (talk) 20:20, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see; I've replied at the discussion there. Thanks, Hqb (talk) 20:38, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Digital bus - I agree

[edit]

The article you indicated is better. Still, I have written some material on new, DSP buses which is different. If you like, you can copy it to your site.

Q: Hqb= Huckleberry Finn (character) ? (no offense intended).

--Zutam (talk) 07:01, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What you describe for the DSP buses is an instance of the more general concept of a Harvard architecture. I've added that link to the "See also" section of Bus (computing), thanks.
As for Huckleberry, no, there's no such connection intended. Hqb (talk) 17:32, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Horse racing lengths

[edit]

Folks, I don't give a hoot if it's (measurement), (length), or (unit) but please don't call it length (horse racing). It's a measurement. A weird measurement primarily used with horses, but for one thing, it is not only used in racing (we also use it in other horse disciplines at times), and for another, it should be lumped in with all the other odd measurements like cubits, ells, etc... Many thanks for moving it back to wherever it was. Montanabw(talk) 21:18, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Big thanks to Hqb

[edit]

Hqb is the first person to reference the etymology of the word and mathematical term “slug”. Despite my suspicions and the contradictory reference to a 1928 text book (not referenced), I believe Hqb has earned a well deserves round of applause. See here. Thank you for telling me about the distinction on binomial authorities with ( ) vs. without. I was able to make correcteions on my created pages as well as many others. I hadn't been aware of it. cheers, Bruinfan12 (talk) 14:16, 16 September 2010 (UTC) That was in June. Anyway you have a helpful manner and assume good faith which administrators should do more.[reply]
