I want to add a photo (public domain) to an article which I recently contributed to Wikipedia. I am not yet confirmed to upload photos onto Wikipedia.
I was unsuccessful in my attempt to use Wikimedia Commons. The upload Wizard (for Commons) kept spinning for hours, and it never completed the upload.
Many thanks for your help.
- Hi HowardJaster, if you are sure the image is in the public domain (rules for public domain are rather complicated, but if the work is not explicitly declared as in the public domain by the copyright holder as is done for works from the US government it almost certainly isn't. Please do double check), first check again if you can upload to commons, the uploader generally works well. If that still isn't working, let us know again, and, if the work is available online, include a link to it, so someone can take a look as to why the file isn't uploading. I greatly appreciate Martijn Hoekstra's attempt to help me. However, I have been unable to contact him on his Talk Page.
I still believe that my photos are Public Domain, and I am still unable to upload them onto Wikimedia Commons.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance in uploading 3 photos (total) onto the 2 pages I created earlier this year. HowardJaster (talk) 18:13, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
- What exactly is the problem with uploading the images via the Commons' Upload Wizard? Please be a little more specific. Also, why do you believe they are in the public domain? If they are photos of F. Curtis Dohan, Jr. they aren't old enough to have automatically become part of the public domain and would have to be explicitly released into the public domain by the copyright holder - and either you should be aware of such a release, in which case you don't just "believe" that they're in the public domain but know it with certainty, or you should consider them copyrighted and non-free. I don't think any Wikipedia editor would upload images of unknown provenance on the basis of someone else's belief, so emailing them to someone else likely wouldn't help.
